iirc the odd-number movies, up till 5 at least, are pretty funny but the even numbered one (2, 4, 6) suck a dog

i torrented jam all on my own (stevie), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

2 or 3, maybe 4, I mean they're pretty much on a level imo but Bobcat definitely adds something to the mix.

Geoffrey Mujangi Bia-Curious (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

basically fuck a non-R-rated police academy movie IMO

One of my best memories about the original Police Academy movie is that I went to see it at the theater with my best friend whose dad was a detective and we met a bunch of his cop buddies at the movie. There was something a bit more funny about watching a bunch of old cops laugh at a movie about cops.

i saw the first one in some leisure centre tv room when i was about 9. they'd put this film on to a room full of under-15s, for some reason.

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

Reason being it is awesome.

with a bad girl's enlightenment and a Buddha's passion (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

would've been just as happy with The Goonies at that point

mdskltr (blueski), Wednesday, 27 January 2010 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

No tits in The Goonies iirc.

A romp involving a bunch of kids trying to procure jewels from a character known as One-Eyed Willy had no corruptive effects on me at least.

they've been showing all of these on er paramount i think, and for six and seven they've switched to adverts of a kind of 'yes, these are awful but you're going to watch them anyway' line

thomp, Wednesday, 27 January 2010 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

Pretty sure I saw 1-6. As the release of those installments neatly spanned the duration of time in which I was in elementary school, I matched the ideal demographic for the series perfectly.

I think 4 is the one that started out with an extended street-skating montage featuring the Bones Brigade? I recall thinking that was beyond awesome, so I'll go with that one.

tried to watch all of these in order one day and fell asleep during five.

randy e. bugler (jeff), Tuesday, 2 February 2010 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

we watched V at my 4th grade slumber party and laughed our asses off. My ranking back then went 1-2-5-4-6-3 (3 not really having any jokes of its own, just retreads from the first 2), but I haven't actually seen Operation Miami Beach since to reaffirm its alleged glory.

always disappointed that no one ever gets Blue Oyster Bar references when I make them. I realize the problem is probably me.

A friend once told me she had one of her friends visiting Helsinki, and this guy was like from some small town where there are no gay bars. So they were in Helsinki and they were walking past a local gay pub (called "Fairy Tale", so you can make no mistake about it), and they saw a couple of leather dudes walking out. Immediately the guy started humming loudly to the tune from the Blue Oyster scenes ("El Bimbo"), and she was like, "Shut the fuck up!".

Saw 3 in the cinema whilst on an exchange trip to Nuremberg so it was dubbed into German. The intricacies of the dialogue were beyond my linguistic abilities, but recall enjoying the (undubbed) vocalisations of Goldthwait and Winslow.

I found it! This was a big deal to me at the time b/c I'd gotten heavily into skateboarding & was reading the magazines and such, tho I didn't yet have access to *real* skate videos (& is wasn't all over television w/ the xgames & such like nowadays), so the opportunity to see the Bones Brigade in action, even in a supercheesy montage like this, was a real treat.
