A writer with the best kind of career: he wrote at his leisure, around making lots of money with and for the Harrimans, Bohlens, Morgans, etc. I went through a phase a few years ago after reading Gore Vidal's appreciation; a minor writer, often given to lazy resolutions and fusty dialogue. He gave consistent pleasure.
