As is Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, and Laurence Fishburne
Robert Rodriguez wrote this, and produced it. A sequel, or at least, part of the serial from the 1st two, not nec a reboot.
photos are starting to come out
I have absolutely no expectations of this flick, other than it has to be better that the two wasted AvP movies. And the premise of Danny Trejo fighting Predators will get me to watch.

No posts on this one. Best Predator movie yet, I think.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 18 July 2010 14:47 (fifteen years ago)
Nah, way too much of a retreadof/"homage" to the first one. But it was pretty enjoyable!
― latebloomer, Sunday, 18 July 2010 14:49 (fifteen years ago)
I never loved the first one (movies were Arnold actually has dialogue always kind of drag for me). I always kind of liked the second Predator more (lol @ Danny Glover "action lead").
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 18 July 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)
This was awful. Overly long, you don't care about the characters -for me a total contrast to predator where the characters are more fleshed out in the first 10 minutes than these are all film, the dialogue is terrible:not a single quotable,Larry fishburne cameo sort of funny but also painful. Spoiler: the Chekhov's gun with topher and the poison scalpel is far too obvious.brody channeling bale's Batman voice doesn't make him a convincing action lead.

Don't actually know of it was over long but it felt that way.

"brody channeling bale's Batman voice doesn't make him a convincing action lead."
Way more convincing than Bale if you ask me.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 18 July 2010 15:09 (fifteen years ago)
Didn't have that when I saw it :( trejo was underused in this.
― Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 18 July 2010 15:10 (fifteen years ago)
Bale has the good grace to do some roids so his arms aren't as skinny as mine, unlike brody.
― Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 18 July 2010 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
Trejo is underused in everything. That guy is awesome.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 18 July 2010 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
Brody looked pretty fit to me. Although he looked pretty fit back in the nineties when he was in Soderberg's King of the Hell too.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 18 July 2010 15:12 (fifteen years ago)
when you guys saw this was there a preview of The Expendables?
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 18 July 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)
i ask b/c i distinctly remember seeing a preview for it before Predators, but when i mentioned it later no one else remembered it, so i felt like i was goin crazy. i realize the previews aren't necessarily the same at all theaters, but it would still be a relief if someone else out there saw it. i'm really hoping i'm not fabricating memories of sylvester stallone movie previews.
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 18 July 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)
Expendables trailer was shown when I saw it. Also a trailer for film called splice w brody, from makers of the cube. Looked like the worst film ever.
― Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 18 July 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)
phew, feeling less crazy already. i saw Splice, it was terrible. there was one very squirm-inducing scene, though, that felt kinda different from anything i've seen in a movie before.
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 18 July 2010 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
totally agree w jim, just got back from seeing this at the big cineworld in glasgow, monumentally dull and predictable, and the predators were not at all frightening or scary or threatening (their heat seeking vision and so on seems ultralame and dated now.)
we did get the trailer for the expendables...and the a team...they sorta morphed into one big moronic action fest tbh

― no, you're dead right, it's a macaroon (ledge), Monday, 26 July 2010 09:33 (fifteen years ago)
i liked this. good old fashioned action/sci fi without labouring its old fashioned-ness which i thought might happen cos its rodriguez. looked pretty good too, better than some of rodriguez' hollywood films have. though i thought it could have done with a bit more. it felt a bit 'slight'. needed a bit more tension. and brody was surprisingly good in an action role (dont think ive seen him in this kind of movie before, though i know hes in splice now too).
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 July 2010 09:44 (fifteen years ago)
jeez had decided to miss this until those last few posts
― "It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Monday, 26 July 2010 09:45 (fifteen years ago)
agreed that the monsters were too frequent and not scary enough. the film needed something extra really. and it was a bit dated (they even ended with long tall sally in the credits which felt totally 80s lol). but its still enjoyable in a does what it says on the tin/old fashioned 80s video favourite kind of way.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 July 2010 09:49 (fifteen years ago)
Saw this a couple of weeks back and it got me thinking that the Predators must be the dumbest species ever to achieve interstellar travel. Or is just the really stupid ones who go hunting all the time? They're invisible and they've got heat vision but they manage to be consistently beaten by humans with access to a bit of mud and fire. The only redeeming features of this movie were Brody's hilariously po-faced quoting of Hemmingway and Fishburne, who seemed like he didn't have a script and just said whatever crazy shit he came up with on the spot.
― Number None, Monday, 26 July 2010 13:37 (fifteen years ago)
i still dont get how fishburne had the ability to become invisible. dont think it was explained. the bit about him saying he survived on scraps was funny though. cos he looked like he had enough fat on him to feed the whole crew.
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 26 July 2010 13:39 (fifteen years ago)
was fishburne meant to be invisible? he had a pred mask, and their armour which shielded his heat signature, that's all, i thought.
xp who knows how many humans they've killed, obviously we only see movies about the people who manage to fight back!
― no, you're dead right, it's a macaroon (ledge), Monday, 26 July 2010 13:54 (fifteen years ago)
That's true. I wonder why they bothered abducting Topher Grace and Walton Goggins characters though? Seeing as though they had no actual fighting skills.
― Number None, Monday, 26 July 2010 14:00 (fifteen years ago)
This was very enjoyable.
I think the Topher Grace and Walter Goggins characters were abducted because they were killers with deviant/psychotic personalities, and theoretically at least should be more unpredictable quarry than your average supersoldier
― ô_o (Nicole), Monday, 26 July 2010 14:04 (fifteen years ago)
xp i wondered that, a friend suggested it was to shake up the human group dynamic, for the preds to learn from (cf. fishburne's line about them waching, learning, and coming back smarter the next season.) or just for the yuks.
― no, you're dead right, it's a macaroon (ledge), Monday, 26 July 2010 14:06 (fifteen years ago)
tbh the topher 'twist' was the only thing that i thought was dumb about this movie. none of it was very smart, but it didn't try to be clever so there was no problem for me. as i was telling my dad on the phone, when it comes to movies like this i don't require too much--you go in expecting an action/sci-fi movie and a few hours in the air conditioning, and that's pretty much what you get. thought it was fine visually. also i think morphius was invisible cuz he had on the predator armor? cuz he def was invisible when he was stalking the main group.
― not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 26 July 2010 17:42 (fifteen years ago)
this was hilarious. terrible in parts, sure, but enjoyable so (i have extremely low standards for these movies). by the time it got to the samurai sword fight i was totally ready for it to go off the rails, ridiculousness-wise.
i do wish they had been a little more clear about the "different species of predators" thing, and why the one had been tied to a tree.

― Neanderthal, Sunday, 7 August 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
nothing special, but i have to give it credit for including a scene where walton goggins screeches "DIE, SPACE-FAGGOT" before stabbing the shit out of a predator with a prisonyard shiv
