like i hadn't thought about tiramisu in months and now i can't stop but it's 11pm on a sunday night and i just don't think there's any scope to acquire any :(

Tiramisu is best when it's just cakey enough to maintain it's shape, but mostly soggy.

I don't like coffee and am not a big drinker, but I do like Tiramisu.

I think it's perhaps my being afraid of vices, meaning that I can best accept them in a decidedly palatable cake-based format.

I was amazed to find that tiramisu is a modern invention, OED can't find any documented eveidence of the word before 1983. I though it was something that had been made for hundreds of years.

Tiramisu is recent, but there's a long history of Italians combining finger biscuits, mascarpone, sugar, etc., etc..

Tiramisu gelato is in no way underrated - at least not by me.

The phrase tirami su literally means "pick me up"

i only noticed this a few months ago having eaten tiramisu for years
it's a solid commonplace, occasionally excellent (freshly made somewhere nice) and simple enough that even supermarket versions usually alright too

As far as supermarket versions go, Morrison's is the best IMO.

It's odd, I used to like coffee-flavoured cakes for years before I actually liked coffee. You should just make one anyway Nick and eat it all yourself.

I enjoy tiramisu, but it's too soggy to be cake and too solid to drink in normal booze form, and just not satisfying enough to make my top, say, 10 best desserts.

Nick, you should get Em to try it - I hate coffee in ice cream and cake but tbh the mascarpone/cookies/cocoa powder does an effective override.

I may well do that, but it'll have to be after the wedding now; veto on all desserts before we get married...

Also I think there just might be a few places in New York that could provide a decent tiramisu.

I'm one of those folks in the "Tiramisu is overrated" camp. It's a fine dessert, I'll eat it if it is placed in front of me. But I just don't get people who see it as the be-all end-all of desserts. There are a lot of these people, and I just can't relate.

Meanwhile, I just chowed down on a mini cupcake-sized Boston Cream Pie that my sister-in-law whipped up yesterday, and it was damn good.

It's got booze in it. It's hard to screw up when making it, so it's easy to make yourself, and the quality of shop bought ones varies between "good" and "excellent", where for most other desserts it's "garbage" to "reasonable" and "excellent if you want to spend a lot of money in a fancy restaurant".

There's a sushi place we go that does green tea tiramisu. It's a nice twist.

I have tried this multiple times and I DO NOT love tiramisu due to its:

• sogginess
• cream-filled center
• coffee taste
• it is not that good
• i don't like to eat it

A good tiramisu is nice but a crap tiramisu, which is a lot of it, is a too sweet, too heavy on the dairy (leaving a greasy coating in teh mouth), and just too much of a dose overall.
