First of all I have to admit that I still haven't watched all of Battlestar Galactica and in fact only got about nine episodes into the first season before I got sidetracked and then just never caught up. But I did start watching this a few weeks ago and it's rather good if a bit stilted and cheesy at times.
― akm, Monday, 8 February 2010 06:48 (fifteen years ago)
I'm watching it. It isn't great, but there's enough there to keep me watching for awhile to see if it picks up.

trying. While Battlestar induced moments of jumping on the couch, so far I can't get excited about anything in the show so far.

― Remington Q. (remy bean), Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:56 (fifteen years ago)
Loving this. The New Cap City stuff they've introduced promises some interesting developments, and I think they've got a lot of good threads going to bring some good conflicts, etc. Great casting too.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 4 March 2010 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
They've got a number of plot threads going, so I'm a little scared about how well they'll be able to handle the balance. All well so far.
The intro where it pans around each character and shows an animated montage of their pasts/motivations with the character name on screen is kind of awkwardly geeky but I like it.
― mh, Thursday, 4 March 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)
Noticed that the intro's started calling him 'Willie Adama'. Swear it was just Will in previous episodes.
― James Mitchell, Thursday, 4 March 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)
i watched half of The Plan the other day finally. there is nudity.

What'd you think, other than the nudity, which is present?
― mh, Thursday, 4 March 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)
Is it Adama nudity?
― FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT! (milo z), Thursday, 4 March 2010 22:07 (fifteen years ago)
New Cap City episode was pretty good, I hope they use more episodes to explore these kinds of ideas. I agree that this show isn't amazing so far, but it is just interesting and entertaining enough to keep me on the hook.
― Nhex, Thursday, 4 March 2010 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
this is a very entertaining show so far!

Is patton oswalt appeared yet? Do they let him be patton, or is he serious?
― Philip Nunez, Thursday, 4 March 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)
His role is serious, he's like a lame Jay Leno/O'Reilly hybrid with a Daily Show-esque audience. He was OK, but it wasn't nearly as good as his Dollhouse appearance. Still waiting on Marsters to show up.
― Nhex, Thursday, 4 March 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)
They keep showing Marsters on upcoming clips...do we know if he's for sure in this week's episode? The wait is killing me. KILLING me.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 5 March 2010 00:36 (fifteen years ago)
yeah I really like this show, the characters are very strong. I still haven't watched all of BSG, need to rectify that; but I like the non-space-ness of this, and the whole retro look of the city, the cars. It's admittedly kind of soft and cheesy but I don't demand that much from my television entertainment these days.

I've been listening to the podcasts and I have two observations:
1. David Eick is a weenie of astounding proportions.2. Paula Malcomson (Amanda Greystone) is awesome. They were discussing Esai Morales's recent Today Show appearance during which the host pronounced "Caprica" to rhyme with "paprika" and how EM handled it very gracefully. Paula Malcomson chimed in and said she would have bludgeoned Al Roker to death in front of the host just to teach her a fucking lesson. I died.
Also, between David Eick's awkward comments re: women (like calling Jonas Pate's wife "hot" and bemoaning the fact that he missed the day of shooting during which they filmed two women making out for the v-club scene and comparing himself to a "beaten wife" because he had to take notes from the network), there's some pretty interesting stuff on the podcasts. The dropped some neat hints about the direction of the show that were pretty encouraging.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Saturday, 13 March 2010 20:01 (fifteen years ago)
i found it OK but a bit difficult to get why they chose to focus only on certain things/people and not others. not that i really wanted more Lee or exploration of Baltar and #6 (they could've explained more how Baltar became a projection in the #6's mind tho as i never did get that really, or the #6's varying look for that matter) tho.
― mdskltr (blueski), Saturday, 13 March 2010 20:13 (fifteen years ago)
Malcomson was so great on Deadwood, I knew she would bring it to this show - I like the direction they're taking her in, she's getting more and more opportunities to shine as the show has gone on.

Not really down with the Vergis plot, but really dug the 2 A-stories tonight (Daniel's sick psychological torturing of Zoe and Joseph's continuing quest into New Cap City). Considering there's only one more episode before the break, I wonder how much they'll be able to wrap up before then... probably not much.

Well, it's on "season break" until like November or some bullshit, so...
I can't imagine that it's in any way reasonable to put a brand new show on a long break like that before it really had a chance to gin up a lot of viewer enthusiasm. But what the hell do I know?
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Thursday, 1 April 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)
The network has decided to draw out this show longer than expected - rumors are that it took so long to air because they were working out a lot of script problems. I remember the pilot getting made two years ago, and even from the pilot to episode 3 you could see a lot of tweaks that were made upon making it to a full series, and over this season they're still playing around a lot with where the characters are going, what the central relationships are - it's been cool to see this in action.
I think the approach is somewhat working. It's completely away from the deep, rigid, ongoing story arcs of BSG, and a lot more approachable to new viewers. They seem to have a lot more freedom with the characters and stories since they're not inherently locked into the concept or a single ongoing story arc, even the development of the Cylons. I could see the audience building for it slowly (or not). I'm sure since this is SciFi Channel they'll rerun the first 10 episodes over and over again throughout the summer.

i think there are a lot of really great ideas in this show -- death/undeath, real/unreal, religious extremism, moral culpability, the limits of ruthlessness that can be explored in a lot more of an open-ended way than in galactica. i wish this didn't have the stigma of sci-fi all over it, because i think it might otherwise compel a very wide viewership
― once a remy bean always a (remy bean), Tuesday, 5 October 2010 22:48 (fourteen years ago)
It reeks of a cyberpunk course I took a decade ago, and I kind of love it for that. Also kind of digging this dark Bugsy Malone thing with New Cap City. There are a lot of really interesting ideas being tossed around, but boy does it lack focus.

Hate how they dragged out the Amanda thing to the end of the episode, but not a bad return ep. The only reason I had any doubt that she might return was that Paula Malcolmson has been in every episode of Sons of Anarchy this season, otherwise it just felt kind of stupid how they teased it.

― That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 22:59 (fourteen years ago)
Crap! When they announced that new BSG series a few days ago, I should've seen this coming, but I figured they were doubling down on the universe. Pulling it off before the season's over means the ratings were truly dire, but this is largely the result of breaking the season in half, deciding to air the second half in 2011, then quickly moving it back to September - I think half the people watching this didn't even know it was back. Shame, really, this show definitely wasn't quite great yet, but it had a lot of potential to grow.
― Nhex, Thursday, 28 October 2010 03:53 (fourteen years ago)
First ten episodes had pretty awful ratings as well to be fair, but they did fuck up the scheduling something fierce. They should have aired it when they released the pilot on DVD way back when.
― No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Thursday, 28 October 2010 03:58 (fourteen years ago)
But I mean... worse ratings than Warehouse 13 or any number of original shows they put out? Did anyone watch Haven this summer? Granted, Caprica probably costs a lot more to make...
― Nhex, Thursday, 28 October 2010 06:00 (fourteen years ago)

― James Mitchell, Thursday, 28 October 2010 07:36 (fourteen years ago)
Also lol "Final Five".
and yet they are actually launching ANOTHER BSG spin off? SyFy is mysterious to me. jerking this around on the schedule was really lame. I hope the rest of the season at least gives the story somem kind of conclusion.
― akm, Friday, 29 October 2010 05:57 (fourteen years ago)
They were initially wanting to get away from spaceships and sci-fi clichés, but this show didn't deliver on that nor did it deliver the ratings. I think greenlighting a more traditional sci-fi spaceship shoot 'em up a week before announcing the cancellation of the other BSG spin-off was pretty cynical.
― No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Friday, 29 October 2010 05:58 (fourteen years ago)
Caprica's failure was the casting imo

Hey, SyFy just dumped the rest of their unaired shows on the air last night, all in a row, with very little promotion. I missed one at some point, but I watched four hours worth. It really came together a couple episodes before the end, had a good last episode, and then a bizarre coda where they tried to wrap up the series. Wha?
