xpost -- You know, that's a rare case where there's a blog post where I actually want to see a slew of moronic, sub-literate responses calling the author a stupid idiot.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 11 February 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

Countdown to when someone uses "Buzzkill" as a headline in 5... 4... 3...

xpost -- You know, that's a rare case where there's a blog post where I actually want to see a slew of moronic, sub-literate responses calling the author a stupid idiot.

I'm conflicted. I don't like Calacanis, but I also want to see Facebook fail too.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 11 February 2010 01:52 (fifteen years ago)

am grateful to this thread for reminding me to turn off buzz

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:06 (fifteen years ago)

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:16 (fifteen years ago)

etaeoe, Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:35 (fifteen years ago)

stet, Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:39 (fifteen years ago)

shiksa kabab (get bent), Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

i swear i clicked to go to inbox, not get buzz, but somehow i got it anyway. i turned it off.

harbl, Thursday, 11 February 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

I left it on. I don't have a good reason why. I even uploaded a photo.

ljubljana, Thursday, 11 February 2010 03:04 (fifteen years ago)

I dont use twitter so i dont see why i'd use this, that said I've played around with it at least. wil prob turn it off soon tho.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 03:18 (fifteen years ago)

Buzz off.

Rockefellatio (SeekAltRoute), Thursday, 11 February 2010 03:18 (fifteen years ago)

People have already "followed" me too, wtf you buncha creeps ;P

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 03:53 (fifteen years ago)

voted "ugh"

Clay, Thursday, 11 February 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

Trayce, they may not have *actually* followed you! I think whenever you log in to gmail it automatically has you following ppl!

DJ NAIR (tehresa), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

yeh I know, i had six followers automagically but i "unfollowed" most of them and a few have reappeared and some extra ones have too. *shrug* :)

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

Unless it automatically re-did them... *looks at google in fear*

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:18 (fifteen years ago)

Just because you unfollow them does not mean they unfollow you; you'd have to block or something?

DJ NAIR (tehresa), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:26 (fifteen years ago)

how do turn it off?

Department of Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification (S-), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:28 (fifteen years ago)

On mine it was a tiny link at the bottom of the page - not the buzz page, but the mail inbox. Creeeeepy!

DJ NAIR (tehresa), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:32 (fifteen years ago)

I see. How fucking sneaky.

Department of Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification (S-), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

I've been msging Adam with this thing and he's getting more apopleptic with rage at how stupid it is by the second.

Not only does buzz have its own little "folder" in gmail - which is fine, you get (1) or whatedver in brackets when someone posts something, great! - but then once the thread starts you get notified in the buzz folder... AND IN YOUR INBOX AS WELL.

UH.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:46 (fifteen years ago)

"hi heres an email to remind you that the other thing which is also already in front of you has an update"

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

But does Adam M_ really want me to know him?

Nhex, Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:16 (fifteen years ago)

And I'm out too...

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:23 (fifteen years ago)

where is the 'turn off buzz' button?

iatee, Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:25 (fifteen years ago)

At the bottom of the page, right above the copyright stuff.

no more springs no more summers no more falls (sunny successor), Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

same here, it's just the privacy thing that really bugs me

Nhex, Thursday, 11 February 2010 05:54 (fifteen years ago)

I didnt mind it tbh but I cant see a use for it when I have LJ and FB already.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 06:04 (fifteen years ago)

l0u1s jagg3r?

Mark G, Thursday, 11 February 2010 07:58 (fifteen years ago)

Signed into my mail this morning, got a splash screen that read "Oh wow, you can get Google BUZZ! You want it right?" I clicked "No thanks" or whatever the link was.
And uhm, I was greeted with a big Buzz button right below my inbox? So basically they activate it no matter what? What on earth was the point of the splash then?

Thanks for the tip on how to remove the thing.

Øystein, Thursday, 11 February 2010 10:33 (fifteen years ago)

It doesnt remove it, it just switches it off, same as chat (afaik).

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

I've turned it off even though I don't really know what it does.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Thursday, 11 February 2010 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

can't be bothered 2 find out what it is

vag white band (history mayne), Thursday, 11 February 2010 10:53 (fifteen years ago)

I'm annoyed it's presumed my ex wants to follow me.

The reverse TARDIS of pasta (Niles Caulder), Thursday, 11 February 2010 11:17 (fifteen years ago)

It just adds anyone who you emailed a lot on yr gmail account I think. Which is why I have some ppl "following" me who I know would never actually have done so voluntarily.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

I turned this shit off btw

∫ (Curt1s Stephens), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

I like google, so I don't want to, but it does seem pointless and irritating right now. I don't need another thing to keep track of.

krakow, Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:40 (fifteen years ago)

Oh man I might keep it around just to watch my family use the internet:

M3rr1ll: Looks like this buzz is Googles answer to facebook.
C4ss4ndr4 - Dad! I love you!Feb 10
M3rr1ll - So far I'm liking this Buzz. I love you too C4ss4ndr4!

vacation to outer darkness (Abbott), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

Hahah it'd be fun watching people ramble at each other on it tbh :) Facebook without all the gumf!

Eh, I dunno.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 11 February 2010 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 12 February 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)

Aaah, even though I turned it off immediately, this fucker automatically sent follow requests to random people in my contacts list. Way to make me look like a huge creep, Google.

Dan I., Friday, 12 February 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)

yeah ditto, it is now turned off

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

I have no idea what this is but I've just turned it off without even looking at it anyway.

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 February 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

Just a reminder again that "turning it off" just stops it loading on yr gmail page - it doesnt delete your appearance on buzz to other ppl unless you go unfollow and block them first, as far as I can tell.

I'm not fussed - I dont have a surname let alone real name on my account and I dont have a profile.
