The SNES was for weird kids who liked to play roleplaying games. The sort of kids that went to Games Workshop on a Saturday morning. The Mega Drive was just pure button bashing greatness.

oh good lord, that reminds me. i had the Toejam & Earl 'rap song' as a child. it was the special limited edition competition thing in some Megadrive magazine and it came on a cassette (remember them? like minidiscs but shit). this was before i became a grumpy adolescent that only liked Slayer so obviously i thought it was the best thing ever.

the game was a bit weak though.

wasn't there a Toejam & Earl cartoon? or do all my memories just involve old Megadrive games?

Snes, of course, was far better. Generally better graphics and far more variety and general quality of games.

Shinobi, Herzog Zwei, Phantasy Star, and Sonic were all ok. But just not ok enough.

Super Metroid alone has more potential replay time than the entire Mega Drive line up. The game never gets old!

SO WRONG!!! Liking Koshiro and Nakamura are one thing, has nothing to do with sound chips where it's not even debatable SNES had a better one.

As a young Genesis loyalist I was a little haunted by my knowledge of how the objective figures broke down btwn the two systems but who gives a f, Sega does what Nintendon't

SNES. It's not even close, really. I remember getting in heated debates over this in grade school, the argument inevitably leading to the point that Mortal Kombat had blood on the Genesis and not on SNES (which would always lead to the classic Mortal Kombat vs SF2Turbo argument (SF2 by the way, duh)). But once Mortal Kombat II came out that point was moot.

Man, I really hope David H took his cousin's offer for the dreamcast and 70 games. That's STILL a great deal!

It was pretty rough being a Segahead in the end of the 16-bit era. They dominated for the better part of my youth and then the second I get a Genesis they come out with Donkey Kong Country and all of a sudden I'm living in the sunset of an empire. But hey, remember Vectorman?

Genesis Mortal Kombat looked like ROTTEN ASS, blood or no blood. That said the Sega Genesis Collection for PS2 is pretty great, and yeah both Vectorman games are on it.

I think it's a tough call. I had a MegaDrive/Genesis for longer and had it first so I want to pick Sega but after replaying a load of games from both consoles on emulators I think Nintendo takes it. I still love them both.

Also, Amiga 500/600 deserves to be a contender in this for having the best Sensi.

i even got a 32X for my birthday, which i sold by the next summer.

i was anti-nintendo for a long time.

then i realized the whole system loyalty thing was just stupid and never looked back.

(i think this was overcompensating for never getting an NES as a kid.)

anyway despite my fondness of the Genesis and many good times spent playing i'd have to pick SNES.

This thread has inspired me to download a SNES emulator.

Well I'm Ctrl'ing and I'm F'ing, but I don't see a single instance of the word MADDEN, so fuck y'all don't know shit.

Like it wasn't the only reason in the world I'd ever buy a Genesis. Well, that and NHL 95. And Road Rash II.
