N. has left town & I miss him. Say nice things about him here.

Alternatively, bitch about him now he's gone.

David, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

His farewell speech was really touching. I wanted to give him a hug. One of his ex-colleagues was stroking him afterwards though, so I guess that was covered.

David, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't hear it :0( What did he say?

i hope that boy's going to have a shave before he starts his new job!

Vicky, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have liked to have seen N. last night but my feet were blistered and I was tired.

Ronan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I felt both jealousy and great pity towards Nicky D's workmates - I mean, we get to see him every few weeks, but they have the pleasure of his company five days a week - but now imagine THE SCALE OF THEIR LOSS. It's almost unbearable.

There'll be an MD - 74 minutes of the saddest Belgian hardcore I can find - winging its way to Glasgow in the next week...

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bruises up & down my legs from the kicking I gave myself when I realised I had the date of his going away party wrong. Sorry Nicky.

Tim, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Made me sad. But then, I obviously want Nick to be happy, but if he'd seemed too pleased at going away I might have been slightly offended. (I'm joking Nick, best of luck.)

Anna, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did anyone give him a pair of white gloves as a going away present?

RickyT, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did anyone give him a pair of white gloves as a going away present?

Is he training to be a snooker referee?

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, just thought he might need them for his new raving lifestyle.

RickyT, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was the workmate what was stroking him. unless we all got in there for a bit of a feel while we still had the chance.

i feel much worse about him leaving than i thought i would. i have a full pack of fruittellas on my desk and no one is robbing them. no spinach and nut quiche will fill the air this lunchtime with its rancid stench. there is now not a single person in the library who knows how to use the microfilm machine properly. *sigh*

i am busying myself cutting out pictures of big brother's alex in a plastic union jack thong to send to him. must have the honour of being the sender of his first glasgopost.

i think he's made the right decision but i still can't help selfishly wanting him to stay. i have a funny feeling that he won't be coming back to london for anything more than a holiday.

nickie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Good luck to the fella. Glasgow isn't that far away and I'm sure we'll be seeing him on here before too long. Don't think of him being geographically far away - think of him as a potential holiday destination.

My beard is better anyway.

Pete, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh cripes, not more ruddy beards. Is there some sort of facial hair insanity virus going round or something?

RickyT, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a funny feeling that he won't be coming back to london for anything more than a holiday.

I think that too.

Anna, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What happenned last night?

I am saddened that last week I forgot to pull his face in a pub, and now will probably never get the chance.

Graham, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not like he's dead, kids.

But in his honor anyway, I won't say anything even slightly mean about him today.

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

his candle has burned out long before his legend ever will

nickie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to miss windfalls courtesy of his pub quiz excellence. I think he'll have a great time in Glasgow and I'm a bit jealous to be honest.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not like he's dead, kids.

LEAVE ME ALONE I'M TRYING TO GRIEVE

*runs away screaming and slams door in Nicole's general direction*, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(rickyT, Ptee had a Mangly Glastongbury Beard hehehe)

katie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyway, what went on last night?

Graham, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It appears N. was killed ritualistically in some sort of orgiastic frenzy, now all involved feel slightly guilty about offing poor old N.

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry i didn't say tata properly, N. Keep posting.

Alan in Charing Cross, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How does one say "tata" improperly, Alan? "Hello miss, I'm Alan and your left tata is AMAZING. The right one needs some bounce, though"?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan didn't get a chance to show N. a bodacious tata.

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was the workmate what was stroking him.

No, Nickie, I know what you look like & it was some young guy who was stroking his arm & back directly after his tearful speech. You must have been beaten in the rush.

David, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

damn that mystery person. i thought i'd be the last to give him a special fondling thrill. knew i should have gone for the full-on goodbye smooch.

nickie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If my friends decided to give me a frottage party when I (eventually) leave town, I think I would cry. From fear.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus, this thread is like my ultimate fantasy, dying but still being able to see all the great things people say about you after you're gone.

N. has been in Glasgow for a matter or hours and I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN HIM YET. OH NOOO! I'm still not quite sure why he's here. He seems so cosmically connected with London.

But, this SPEECH! SOMEONE MUST HAVE A TRANSCRIPT! PLEASE!

Ally C, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry to have missed you Nick, I went home to clean myself up and then ur, fell asleep on the sofa. Enjoy Glasgow and TRY not to join a shit indiepop band, eh?

Sarah, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The speech: 'You're not my REAL friends. You STIFLE me. My entire life in London has been a LIE. Don't forget to leave the receipt in the bag with the presents'

nickie, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The speech in full: "I was going to write a speech and then forgot. Please don't make me speak much longer or I will cry like a gurl. I am scared of Scotland and especially that Ally C who will probably murder me and dump me in the bath in my bedroom. Cheers!"

Pete, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea who was stroking me. It might have been Jez, who I didn't work with.

N., Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

N. has a bath in his *bedroom*!?!

Christ, he is Alex!

David, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Either that or the unscrupulous Scottish landlord have put a bed in the bathroom and told him its a viable bedroom option. I was told he had a water bed - which may be porcelain, round and under a lid has water in it.

Seriously though, good trip Nick?

Pete, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, hope everything is going well up there, I saw Ross this morning and there is a visit to the Village tonight planned, hopefully our team name will be a memorial to you.

(Jonnie, take note, your attendance is requested)

chris, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

frottage party

There's a band name for ya, Dan.

Hope yer settled into Glasgow reasonably swiftly, N. No throwing yourself into the Clyde in despair without telling us first.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No throwing yourself into the Clyde in despair without telling us first.

Yes, tell us about it first so we can all savor the good news.

Hey, I just said I wouldn't say mean things about N. yesterday. I said nothing about today.

Nicole, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All is normal again. :-)
