My fault for having any faith whatsoever in the BBC, I suppose

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

no, that journalist wants you to think it's all your fault.

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 February 2010 11:20 (fifteen years ago)

what %age of the viewership do you think knew what the word meant?

nakhchivan, Thursday, 25 February 2010 11:52 (fifteen years ago)

Does it matter?

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 11:59 (fifteen years ago)

I would imagine most people watching probably didn't know what the word 'obsfucate' meant. Surely it would be better just not to use it in the first place?

Matt DC, Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:00 (fifteen years ago)

No, it would be better if they did know what it meant

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:02 (fifteen years ago)

Anyway, it was part of a quote, so he had to use it

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:06 (fifteen years ago)

I think Fearne Cotton should present the news. Maybe with Reggie Yates as co-anchor.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:19 (fifteen years ago)

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:22 (fifteen years ago)

my 35% wd include people capable of surmising a reasonable approximation through context, onomatopoeia etc

nakhchivan, Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

Not to sound (more) like an old fart or anything, but I have noticed a creeping Newsroundization of the BBC News

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:26 (fifteen years ago)

stop complaining about your television news, seriously, please, stop

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ (dyao), Thursday, 25 February 2010 14:55 (fifteen years ago)

OK when you say evening news, do you mean the 6pm or the 10pm broadcast? 'Obfuscate' more likely to be defined in an earlier broadcast because it's when younger viewers are watching - longer words, and some of the more graphic/sexual descriptives for crimes tend to happen on later news bulletins (some of these might be watershed issues, I'm guessing). Newsround jibe more spot-on than you might have bargained for.

I do like the idea that all complex political issues can be simplified into an easy to read acrostic, makes my duty as an american citizen that much easier

To be fair to the BBC correspondent, they could have just been clarifying that they weren't actually referring to the shocking revelations about Alex Paterson's sex life, Orbfucksgate.

Yeah sorry, I have put in a request to have myself shot in the head for that one.

a SB request would have been enough...

What gets my goat, since you ask, is the simpering idiots on BBC Breakfast, who act like a cross between the Stepford Wives and lobotomy patients. It makes GMTV look like Paxo in attack dog mode.

Neil S, Thursday, 25 February 2010 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

ur poor goat imo

Well at least this thread has provided you with a chance to finally lay those goats to rest.
