I hate blood and needles. Anyone else?

davel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I also can't stand cotton wool, I can't watch when other people touch it, I have even had nightmares about people chasing me with cotton wool and trying to touch me with it.

davel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Crocodiles. Never actually seen one but god they put the shits up me...

Matt DC, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

TANKPUSS!

michael, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Needles too. They make my blood stop pumping, which is kind of stupid, I have to flex my fist and force blood out. Aaaargh.

Andrew, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When I go to give blood I have to be given a local anasthetic to stop my arm shaking.

davel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm scared of Andrew's "Dr Upside Down" thing he does where he hangs off the edge of a bed and grabs at me. Earlier this year I was scared of people speaking in tongues and the scissorsman from Struwwelpeter (he cuts off yr thumbs in the middle of the night with his big scissors). Andrew did scary imitations of both late at night. I always get a fright when someone touches me unexpectedly.

Elisabeth, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Spiders frighten me. And giving presentations. So I suppose giving a presentation on spiders - to an audience of unresponsive and uninterested spiders would be about my worst nightmare.

robster, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was never scared of spiders until, just after seeing Spiderman, I was reclining on the sofa in not many clothes (I am a bit of a slattern after 9pm) and a VERY VERY BIG spider suddenly crawled onto my PANT AREA. A horrible sensation I can tell you, although if Tobey Maguire's experience was anything to go by I could have ended up with handy extra-sensory powers in my girl bits.

Archel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Girl bits that shoot webbing: Classic or Dud?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Death.

nathalie, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Superficially I am scared of the effect HMV sale can have on me: just bought six albums in ten minutes.

Really: I am terrified of snakes (understandable) and worms (slightly odd).

Anna, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am scared of the sea it is quite big and quite deep with quite horrid things in it as a result i find it fearsome and fascinating at the same time and i am scared of surley youths who hang by phone boxes because they nick your phone and money and call you a twat

victim, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

as has been said many times before (and ridiculed):

Clowns

Rocking chairs (with no-one sat in them)

Anything to do with teeth.

chris, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any empty rocking chair Chris, or just the ones in bad movies which creak back and forth seemingly of their own volition? I have a rocking chair and I love it.

Archel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

all of them, prolly due to said creepy films in the distant past.

chris, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what Nathalie said.

Alison Houston, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lions, tigers, sharks, monsters, bears, snakes, ghosts, aligators, giant spiders, killer bees etc

jamesmichaelward, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The horrible, intensley horrible face of CRUMPLED LINEN!!!! ARRGHHH!!!!!!

Damn Mark S and his scary books causing me to lack of sleep.

oh, whistle, and i'll come to you, my lad, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Teeth bother me, as does blood. Rashes also make me want to run screaming.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ilm! and other people's blood, my own's just fine.

Maria, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and CATERPILLARS especially gypsy moths as the slug eating thread reminded me.

Maria, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

blood, needles, flying.

jel --, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Clowns waving at me while the theremin part from "Good Vibrations" is playing in the backround. Scariest moment of my childhood.

brg30, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are teeth scary? I mean, if they are attached to crocodiles or piranhas, yeah, but in general? I've been trying to think what frightens me (other than spiders trying to get in my pants which is a given no-no, I'd have thought) and have concluded that I am Fearless and grate. Sure, I would probably be scared of bears, tigers etc if I met one, but the IDEA of these things causes me no palpitations at all. So I shall gracefully depart this thread.

Archel, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Having to climb up TALL aluminum ladders.

Also, to boyfriend's amazement, I would call out 'door!' when we were driving through Europe and I noticed that the car doors were shut but not locked. Kept envisioning falling out of car and on to road at 100mph. So he had to keep powerlocking whenever I noticed.

I am not scared of bugs, blood, or any of the usual suspects.

suzy, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, Starry, did Mark S lend you a collection of M.R. James stories? What a fine fellow! :-) And yes, damn creepy stuff, that one in particular.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

im afraid of heights and elevators, the panic disorder makes me scared of lots of things. Im also scared shitless of whales. I hate the sounds and the barnicles. If i ever went on a whale watch I would have a friggin heart attack if I saw one.

Chris, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are teeth scary?

It's more the idea of watching something terrible happen to them, like having them smashed out of your mouth or yanked out with pliers.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ever since I read The Pit & The Pendulum, I have been terrified of being buried alive.

C J, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Swimming used to frighten me. Now? Nothing a'tall. After all, after the hell of the last year, what can be left?;>

Nichole Graham, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Molluscs. Dogs. Getting replies to email (if content of mine was anything other than completely inane and boring). Similarly people about to discover bad things/get caught on TV.

Graham, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

MARKPUSS!

RickyT, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the dentist, needles.

di, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aggressive dogs. Balloons (probably due to the time a water balloon hit me square in the face). Age. Inflation.

j.lu, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh also big crowds, so I'm getting tense about going back to my 30,000 or so pop. university.

Andrew, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a minute, what is cotton wool?? Cotton and wool are two different things. Perhaps when put together they do indeed become very scary.

Sean, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cotton wool is that big white fluffy horrible stuff

davel, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it can be small as well

davel, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan T, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry.

Matt, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bridges over water. Makes me wanted to hug the floor.

misterjones, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

People frighten me.

I never posted here before and that was pretty damned scary. But as long as I don't mention the War or my appetite for raw baby flesh, I might get away with it...

Hi Martin. Hi Tim. Fancy seeing you here.

ChrissieH, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am very very frightened of bananas. It's not a phallic thing, they just scare the shit out of me. I can't touch them, can't smell them and if someone is eating one, I have to leave the room. My friend is frightened of lampshades, which is just a stupid irrational fear. Whereas mine is, of course, logical and normal.

Madeleine, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Heights. Dogs. Children. Also bicycles, surfboards, skis, ice skates, bridges and anything else you have to balance on. Including rocking chairs.

isadora, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like heights and storms and the ocean and getting lost in mazes 'n stuff. But I'm terrified of a) drowning in an enclosed space (running out of air as the compartment slowly fills with *glub glub glub*) and b) abandonment. I've always been hysterically afraid of needles but decided last year to be a Big Girl and was in a medical study (for lots of money) that involved much blood sampling. Now I love getting needled for the triumph and adrenalin rush of it.

Pyth, Sunday, 7 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dental floss. When I use it, b. says I use too much, but I'm afraid of getting all of that stuff together on too short a stretch.

Katie, Sunday, 7 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a TELL ME question.
