Or, subtitled: "What happened to Keith Coogan"--he starred in two movies about babysitting gone awry. So, I can watch "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead" over and over again. I think it might be one of my favorite movies, and Christina Applegate's Lita Ford coif only makes it THAT much better. Share your thoughts.

+DTMtBD=dud although I'm not sure I've ever seen it in its entirety.

Yeah, you bet that David Duchovny's in it. He plays "Bruce, head inventory clerk" and evil receptionist Caroline's cohort. But, it's not a dud, step OFF, Jack.

That film was the only thing that made being a fat and zitty babysitter even remotely bearable. The ice sculpture! The Buick! The petty cash! The new fangled fax machine! A classic.

The punXor some kid with no qualifications is not only better at the job than the qualified secretary, but more likeable too, plus the local kindly nerd will do all your work for you (and then made him nice rather than leachorous, which is grebt). And I loved how the rock kid cut off his hair for the show at the end (do his rock friends join in, I don't remember), and doesn't she win a scholarship or something? Plus the burger guy loves her for who she is and what she pretends to be.

Also managed to be a very late entry into by films-I-watch-whenever-they're-on-TV-which-is-always Back To The Future/Goonies/Honey I Shrunk The Ect category.

CLASSIC

Classic. Definitely. I mean, it's just so Eighties. Look at the clothes!

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead vs Adventures In Babysitter: FITE!!!

(I think DTMTBD edges it out through gross eating scenes and hilarious shoulderpads - and especially Christina Applegate at 26 playing a sixteen year old pretending to be 26 - Hah!) Channel 4 rightly rate it and are always showing it in their primetime movies slot.

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead vs Adventures In Babysitter: FITE!!!

adventures in babysitter sounds a bit saucy.

but seriously. that film had different titles in the UK and the US, didn't it?

I prefer the AiB because I've seen it. or maybe I prefer DTMtBD

RJG, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Adventures In Babysitting was also known as A Night On The Town - a much worse name for what is a fun screwball kids comedy. What is nice about DTMTBD is its moral backbone which - much like Freaky Friday - is as subversive as it is straight (actually its hard being an adult with responsibilities - but hey olds - lighten up a bit and learn from ver kids).

Pete, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

did anyone read the book sequel(s) to freaky friday? (they were all books before FF was made into film)

Alan T, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AiB v DTMTBD?

YOU KNOW WHOSE SIDE I AM ON HERE.

AiB does, however, have Coogan in the all-star lineup, which makes it bearable.

Oh we should totally have a thread for that too.

Also, Keith Coogan as common denominator.

ENBB, Monday, 5 November 2012 23:46 (twelve years ago)

THOR was D'Onofrio! How could he suck?

This is a perfect film for a game of "I Saw This When I Was Ten Yeard Old And It Is Frozen In My Ten Year Old Mind. Is It Actually Good?"

I saw it when I was 10, then we recorded it off the tv when I was 12, and we watched at least once a week til I was 18...YES IT'S GOOD

I def need to do a Babysitter double feature one of these days. Loved both this and AiB as a kid and always assumed they'd both be too embarrassing to rewatch.
