ACTA - Should We Be Afraid?

This keeps popping up every day on Boingboing, they are kind of obsessed with it and as a result I've shut it out of mind. But I've started reading and there's some truth to what they're going on about. Basically the Ant-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement could fundamentally change things worldwide for the internet, criminalizing copyright infringement and beefing up unconstitutional privacy invasion.

Backed by the RIAA and MPAA and usual suspects, the negotiations have been taking place in secret but every so often something leaks and gets online and it doesn't look good. Although you really have to wonder how they know it's a genuine leak if the negotiations have been secret...

Anyways I think it's a bit of silly paranoia but after the Patriot Act I can understand why people would be so paranoid. So feel free to post paranoid articles, common-sense rebuttals, etc.

My favorite ACTA prophesy is that once the US economy collapses infringement of intellectual property will be used to start wars. The richest media moguls will provide data showing the biggest thieves, and the poor will give their lives so they can continue making money off the White Album.
