I skipped the apostrophe in Steppin', since sometimes they turn into Steppin$R(*#$

O Amanda, I would've posted pt 2 instead if I'd seen it. This is for you. I suggest opening five separate windows and playing this slightly out of sync:

From Belton v. Gebhart, Delaware Court of Chancery, 1952 (one of the cases that led to Brown v. Board of Education):

Claymont has many more extra curricular activities than does Howard. Thus, Claymont has a school newspaper, an Art Club, Drivers Club, Mathematics Club, Square Dance Club, Leaders Corps and an organization to tickle the imagination called "Tumbling Girls."

jam master (jaymc), Monday, 15 March 2010 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

Claymont girls remain, to this day, well known for their tumbling tendencies.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 15 March 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

I am just fascinated that there is "court of chancery" in Delaware. It sounds like some sort of mystical hermetic group that meets in a secret dungeon to perform black magic.

crazy ass between (askance johnson), Monday, 15 March 2010 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

We have chancery here too.

Only if you paste it out of MS Word.

kenan, Monday, 15 March 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

DE is not unlike Bleak House, environment-wise. Chancery courts, fog, urchins galore.

I have some very negative things to say about the people who handled the filing related to this big, dumb, ugly case and exactly how well they know their alphabet. It's like somebody vomited legal documents into a filing box.

Hey I just made a huge post on my library blog about the controversial public hold system at CPL that we talked about on CHILX a few months ago

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 15 March 2010 22:44 (fifteen years ago)

I saw that, Nick. I like it.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

Only if you paste it out of MS Word.

Seems to happen when I use Explorer as well, or at least it did when I started the Public Enemies thread.

Nick, where's your blog?

can it compete with the wagon wheel (Eazy), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 03:50 (fifteen years ago)

http://infinitemonkeys.tumblr.com

I swear I'm not going to post here every time I update it, I just thought people might be interested since we talked about it on an old Chicago thread.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 12:34 (fifteen years ago)

Whatever, keep reminding us. As for me, I never check my Google Reader, so it's nice to see when there are updates to sites I like. Though I guess I get that from you on FB. So nevermind.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

Just use your google reader.

Jeff, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:19 (fifteen years ago)

Not that I mind Nick posting about his updates here, I just want Jesse to use technology better.

Jeff, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)

I don't really like it, though I don't know why not, exactly. It's just sort of meh.

You'd be proud of me for my extensive use of Google Docs and Gmail. I'm obsessed with them.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:22 (fifteen years ago)

I love Google Reader now. I used to not love it when I had only subscribed to really boring library blogs but I gradually added fun stuff and now I have it open all day and read new entries as they come in.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:22 (fifteen years ago)

I recommend that anyone interested in music and how it is created subscribe to David Byrne's blog btw.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:24 (fifteen years ago)

I'm on it now. It just seems sort of overwhelming, I guess. The problem is with me, I'd say.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)

Oops - xp. I'm on Google Reader, not Byrne's blog.

Nick, I'm way ahead of you.

kenan, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

biked to work for the first time in 2010! didn't wear a coat!

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 14:46 (fifteen years ago)

OMG ok that rocks. Not that I could have done that even if I'd thought of it, but I wish I'd thought of it.

kenan, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

There were people out wearing shorts and sandals this morning.

I am going to bike to start biking to work, but I think I'm going to only go as far as Jackson, then park the bike and take the bus.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

jesse why on earth would you do that? just bike all the way. how much further could it be? i'll tell you what, biking is vastly easier for me this year than it was last year.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago)

Because I already had an admittedly semi-irrational fear of biking in traffic, and now that I've used up one of my nine lives on my head injury, I'm even more frightened.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:40 (fifteen years ago)

I would take the lakeshore path all the way down, with only a few side streets between my house and there.

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)

ah yes, that makes sense. i'm sorry :( you do have a good helmet yes? maybe you should look at heading south on a more westerly (less trafficky) route, and then cut east instead of heading down the lakefront?

i am thinking of getting a new helmet. any suggestions?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

Why would I ride on a street when I have the lakefront path?

it's an old pantyhound, that's who (Jesse), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

i will go on record as preferring the street. i know that in the past i have expressed a preference for the path, but i have changed my mind.

the path is full of commuters/olds/babies/strollers/dogs/joggers/people standing in the middle of the path and the bike lane is usually not nearly as crazy. in fact, it's usually not crazy at all.

also lakefront is windy/not shady in the summer.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

lakefront is ok if i'm riding all the way downtown, but i rarely do that so i guess it's just not for me.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

I've given up on my girlish dreams of being a bike commuter. Two people getting creamed by buses in my neighborhood kind of put a damper on my biking enthusiasm. I'm comfortable with this.

Fun facts about ME: I did not learn to ride a bike until I was seven or eight. I lasted about six months until I decided I hated it and stopped riding a bike until I was 17, at which point a bike became my main mode of transportation until I got my second car when I was 26.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

On second thought, those facts aren't very fun.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

Ditto (xp to being comfortable with not being a bike commuter, at least on the streets). It was a goal to become comfortable with street biking, but I am very OK without it now.

The lakeshore path may be full of people on bikes and with strollers, but they're not two tons, made of steel, and going 40 mph.

Fun facts about ME: I did not learn to ride a bike until I was seven or eight.
Fun facts about ME: I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 12, and I taught myself by riding up and down the driveway until I could do it three times without falling or wobbling. This was the year after the summer of stilts, so I knew I could do it. Once I learned to ride a bike, I didn't ever ride it anywhere because all of my friends lived 30 min away by car.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:36 (fifteen years ago)

i was jealous of people whose parents taught them how to ride their bikes
maybe i still am

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:37 (fifteen years ago)

My dad, who felt that training wheels were a crutch that made children soft, taught me by running along with the bike while he hung on to the little handle on the banana seat and I shrieked at him not to let go. He let go, I fell, and now I have trust issues and don't ride a bike anymore.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

Fun fact: there exists film (actual super 8, converted to DVD) of my first non-training-wheels bike ride when I was oh, maybe 5-6 years old? I rolled down a little hill in front of our house, rode around a tree, then ran out of momentum, stopped, fell on my balls on the top tube of the bike, then tipped over. Then I got up and ran around in circles holding my crotch. The camera captured all of this.

i am under no illusions that my opinions are even that interesting to me (dan m), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

I hope you enjoyed my mediocre salad.

I actually thought your salad was pretty great.

jaymc, Monday, 17 May 2010 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

I thought it was a much better than mediocre salad. I do not know how it came to be so maligned.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

Yeh, people liked your salad.

Jenny, what you missed was Nick eating a salt and vinegar chip that was soaked in vodka.

Did anyone eat the grilled sardines?

an outlet to express the dark invocations of (La Lechera), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

xp I have learned something new. I did not know that bulgur was different (and apparently more nutritious!). I also did not know to spell it "bulgur," because I keep wanting to spell it like "vulgar."

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

No value judgment implied, just a knee-jerk spelling thing. :)

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

I saw a box of sardines but no sardines. I would've tried them, at least.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:18 (fifteen years ago)

The sardines themselves were on a little plate near the sink. They were kinda big -- they weren't skinless boneless filets, just whole (headless) sardines in chili oil. They were for the salad if anyone wanted to put them in there, but I guess no one did.

Babbies should probably not eat them.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah. You kept saying, "It's 8pm," and I was like, "Perfect!" It didn't click with me until now that you meant that you needed to go to sleep later and to work in the morning. See, these things often escape me. I do some of my finest work at 4am Monday morning.

Sorry.

Jenny, what you missed was Nick eating a salt and vinegar chip that was soaked in vodka.

I'm honestly sorry to have missed this because I am about 99.8% sure it would have resulted in me laughing so hard I a) had to leave the room or b) almost choked to death or c) all of the above.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, you know, come to think of it, I did see the sardines by the sink, but I didn't know if they belonged to someone, and if so, whether they were left there because they weren't very good. I also didn't know they were sardines, because the ones I've bought are much smaller.

jaymc, Monday, 17 May 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

It's OK Jesse. If I had been pissed I would have left T-Brokes at your place.

Is it possible to make a Venn diagram of people who eat sardines + people who eat Kalamata olives by the dozen + people who eat a whole jar of kosher dill pickes in one sitting? I suspect these people are not "supertasters."

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

If I ever was a supertaster, I have long since smoked it away. Which leaves me with an enhanced appreciation for really pungent, acidic, some would say "foul" flavors.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

Don't even get me started on sauerkraut.
