ok in pret at angel there is a woman who i just realised reminds me of MARYANN of ilx-dunedin and fall-fan fame (well, like a pic i saw on the interweb of maryann), and as a result whenver this woman hands ovah my strong capucinno i warm to her for her intellect (viz maryann's intellect) and her originality and compassion (ditto)

pret=woman is perfectly nice and friendly as staff in pret go, but i think my assumptions that she is also brilliantly clever (not to mention rainy's flatmate) based on mere accidental facial resemblance to a photo are possibly in error

have you find yrself doing this, and what were the hilarious consequences, hmmmmmm?

I saw bobby conn on tuesday night and his violinist looked like a not- so-pretty girl I know. like a girl I know but not as pretty.

no hilarious consequences yet. but I'd had a few drinks and a couple of times I managed to imagine it WAS the girl I know playing violin with bobby and his pals. and THAT was hilarious enough. in my head.

My external assessor at college last week was some strange mix of Terry Jones and Elliot Gould. I inevitably found myself crediting him with a mixture of jolly-yet-wry wit, which didn't really surface during my half-hour with him.

Hilarious consequences = we're getting married! (not true)

Do you have to have an internal assessment too, Jonesy?

Do you have to have an internal assessment too, Jonesy?

Yes, and you should see what they use for that.

I went to see John Zorn @ the Barbican a couple of years back, and spent a large portion of the gig staring at guitarist Mark Ribot because he looked almost EXACTLY like my friend Dave D.

John Zorn just looked like a filthy hippie longhair.

sometimes my fella looks like philip larkin and i hit him for listening to too much jazz and being a bit of a misogynist

nickie, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He looks like (and is actually har har har) a heavy metal kid with a (not very) secret Japanese girl pop fixation.

nathalie, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean Zorn. Whatever.

Phillip Larkin had a (not very) secret schoolgirl obsession!

Andrew L, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, he wrote a story about it. some sort of lesbian adaptation of Enid Blyton/St Clares type boarding school novels, i believe.

it's called "funbag fite at mallory towers"

mark s, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

millicent does mallory's towers

nickie, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Larkin's revolting pseudonym for said book = Brunette Coleman. Boringly, it's called Trouble At Willow Gables, and there is an unfinished sequel called Michaelmas Term At St Brides. Apparently they are both rubbidge.

Hey Mark! Thanks for making me sound so cool! No-one need ever know of our secret 'Can't Buy Me Love' style pact.

I see people all the time on television who look like me - I think it is a kind of mental illness. The other night I was watching 'Just Kidding,' a practical joke show, and a woman who got scared by a spider looked like me and then one by one every other woman who passed by the camera looked like me, too ... I had to stop watching.

Of course I am much uglier in person.

People always delight in telling me that I look like Juliette Lewis which is unfortunate because she is not particularly attractive. This has been going on for nearly 10 years now except last night some girls told me that I look like the chick out of Alias.

I have a friend who looks like an olive version of Winona Ryder. She's pretty cute.

toraneko, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

juliette lewis not attractive????? toraneko [insert insult here; yes that's right I'm not clever enough to think of one, besides toraneko seems like someone I would despise]
the only people I can remember being told I look like are bob mould, billy corgan, my dad, and this yicky punk who was going out with someone I liked. Mein amour hast bin said to resemble, or mistaken for: keanu reeves, anthony kei**!!@#$$%dis, snape in the harry potter movies, his friend charles, and an alien.
I have at times worried that I look like robert muldoon & mikey havoc.

I will never tire of dwelling on the fact that I know someone who looks just like John Denver. He is a new zealander and sometimes got mistaken for Denver, like on a plane once. He has the same haircut and glasses and his name is Gary and he lives in the country.

When I had long hair I was constantly mistaken for other people. Constantly. Even if their face was nothing like mine, it was all down to the hair. Irritated the piss out of me, it did.

These days I don't really look like any fooker but myself.

electric sound of jim, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wld be worried if I got on a plane w/ someone who looks like John Denver...

Andrew L, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In answer to the question, this happens to me in one very negative way. Boys who have a certain type of face remind of a sadist that I once knew, and I hate them, can't stand them, ... Matthew Ridge, the rugby league player, looks like it, and I absolutely can't believe that he's not horribly cruel.
