Appartments, do you live in one or do you prefer a house? Although I used to say for years that I would rent a flat, I ended up in a house. Now I realize flats are dud. My friend can hear her upstairs neighbour fornicate (read: squeal when she's reaching her climax). My other friend used to hear her upstairs neighbour's every move. Cinematic proof: Single White Female.

Houses are pains in the ass. You have to do all the upkeep yourself and you have to be wary of property and all that. Plus, insane neighbors with weird proprietal issues. Apartments are much much better, despite little jerky things like being able to hear other people occasionally. I have noticed the one thing that helps in terms of noise is the age of the building - the more modern a friend's building is, the more noise I tend to hear from other tenants. My building is ancient and I hear almost no one, though maybe that's just cos I'm too loud to notice.

In my *hem* adult life I've lived in both, and both have their strong points. Been in a house the last four years, and I love the space, the detachment from the neighbors (freaky or not) and more. However, it's very likely I'll be getting a condo (or even a townhouse if I can really swing it -- I'd love it if I could) in the near future, and what Ally says about not having to worry about the outside upkeep does rather hit home. ;-)

Eh. Equity = classic. Living space = classic. Apartments which provide both are as good as houses.

I've only ever lived in a house. Two houses too be precise, one day soon I hope to find out what it's like to live in a flat/apartment. At the moment I have no job so can't really move out but I do like where I live, so maybe my desire to leave isn't that great.

Apartments are fucking awful. Everyone's always hassling you for making too much noise or something or another. Houses have yards; you can put trampolines and fire-pits in yards. Sharing walls with people you don't know is so dud it's not even funny. Plus, renting anything is a rip-off; you can OWN houses (and the land underneath!). I can't believe anyone would choose an apartment over a house, unless they're never, ever home.

I live in a house, nobody here lives in apts hardly. I like having a yard, a garden, trees, that stuff. It's winter so I don't hang out in the garden that much right now - the people lived here before us let it all grow over w/ weeds & dumped a ton of garbage out there so we've spent a bunch of time cleaning that crap up & making a garden & all that stuff, by spring it all oughta be real nice to hang out in.

Noone can own land. I like changing my world every so often. Schanges my paridigms.

houses are too expensive to live in here insydney, so apartments/flats are the go, depending on suburbs...apt. are cerainly better than flatettes, negotiating with neighboiurs is a bitch - the last place we lived in we could hear neighbours on four differnt sides, plus my bedroom looked onto the car park areas - mind you, six ppl lived in one of those small two bedroom flats so no wonder they were noisy...the place we live in now is much better, thicker walls, no mould...mind you, we still have noisy fucks who like to talk in the hallway/leave their front door open with the tv up loud - wtf is up with that?

I live in an apartment, top floor so there's no noise above me, only when the guys in the basement apartment climb the fire escape to party up there. A house is too much work for one person. There was only ever one couple (m+f) in the apartment beneath me, one night they argued and all I heard was you're evil! you're evil! you're evil! you're evil! you're evil! you're evil! from her for hours. The single Belgian guy in there now gets drunk and calls the cops once in a while but most of the time his job sends him out of town so I don't have to deal with him.

I've kinda got both. I live in a shared accom HOUSE. But my room is my FLAT. So ive got a large bathroom, garden etc but without the hasle that comes from owning a house. Housemates aren't too bad except the girl below me sometimes comes in drunk and plays the fkn' Stereophonics and Moby loudly into the early hours.

We had sex once. Strange night that.
