2. Story Telling

I haven't rented a film in a long time. I'd say 1 is pretty good but not TOO, like not as much as some others. I'd like to see 2 but I dono. 3 I could TAKE/LEAVE but wouldn't like to the pay money to see. I heard 4 was piss and I'll believe it but. 5? I hate the wayanses so no 6 for me I don't care. I quite liked 7 and might even see it again sometime.

you rented. uh. 6!! why??

today I watched DUNE.

I'd get Ghostworld, because I haven't seen it and reckon I'd like it. If that wasn't in I'd maybe settle for Storytelling, just so I could see if they use the "BECAUSE JERSEY'S WHERE AMERICA'S AT" mentalist dialogue that's on the soundtrack album.

The last film I rented (on DVD) was "The Wicker Man". I enjoyed it a lot.

If you haven't seen Scary Movie II - don't bother. We saw it thinking it would be roughly as funny as the original, but instead it SuXoR mightily.

that dialogue is the best bit of storytelling (or indeed any film ever). oh, and the state that i am in scene is pretty good, too.

I haven't rented a vid in ages, and I am not yet convinced that DVD is not the new 8-track or Betamax, or I am an old fool who cannot adjust to even newish-fangled things. I do have a CD player now, however.

The Man Who Wasn't There and Ghost World are wonderful films which you'll love, and I feel like I ought to recommend From Hell because the comic was by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, two old pals and sort of colleagues once, but I expect it is rub. I'm tempted by Storytelling too, but didn't get around to it at the cinema. I can't place Zoolander and don't want to see Scary Movie II and I expect The Bare Witch Project is a dreadful soft porn movie, whereas I only like hardcore.

It all depends on your mood now doesn't it? The man who wasn't there is definitely my first choice, but Ghost World is really well done too. I thought zoolander would totally suck but it is SO funny. i my god. funny. owen wilson rocks me in a fashion not dissimilar to a hurricaine.

I've seen the Bare Witch Project. Don't rent it. The last DVD I bought was Ghostbusters, I rarely rent DVDs.

Lindsey B, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would rent 1 or 4 because those are the ones I'm curious about that I haven't seen. I'll say you rented... 3.

Vinnie, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you rented zoolander and like me thought it was much funnier than people gave it credit for.

keith, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

last video i rented was actually the man who wasn't there, which i really enjoyed...at this stage most people know whether or not they like coen brothers films,i rented it because i do...as for the others,i wouldn't really have an interest in seeing any of them, although i don't know anything about 2 or 7

I'd rent Ghost World because Thora Birch is swoonsome. Maybe Storytelling as an alternative. I've already seen Zoolander and the rest don't interest me.

The last DVD I watched was "Dick" which was ace. And not just because of Michelle Williams, oh no.

I will also weigh in and agree that Zoolander was far more hilarious than I expected. But then I thought the same of American Pie 2 so what the hell do I know?

I liked Ghostworld. Was it suposed to be about Robert Crumb?

mike hanle y, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I watched series 7 the condenders last night, I really enjoyed it. Out of the fils listed I have only seen 1(which is good), and I want to see 7(I nearly got that out last night), the others I could take or leave.

Well done to Vinnie and Keith!

I rented Zoolander, as Ben Stiller films are never very bad, and I haven't seen a bad Owen Wilson film. It was funny in parts, but it lacked much of a story. But, I liked it.

Already, seen Ghost World, it's very good. I want to see Story Telling and the Man Who Wasn't There, but they didn't strike me as bored Wednesday afternoon films.

I cannot say enough good things about _Ghost World_. Taken simply as a comedy, it is immensely funny and quotable ("Medium? Why sir, did you know for a mere $0.25 more you can purchase a large?". "You guys up for some reggae tonight?" "I'm so hungry I could eat the crotch out of a rag doll." etc. etc.). But it shoots higher - the script is tight, the casting is just perfect, and there is an incredible amount of attention to detail. Like, after the art teacher shows her video piece "Mirror Father Mirror" you can see in the credits the acknowledgement to her father for funding, yet it is painfully apparent that she has "father issues." Or when Enid talks about the Coon Chicken Inn piece, she almost exactly recycles Seymour's words ("It's complicated..."). Or the way Enid's father always has an apron on or is stirring something. The comic on which it was based is also outstanding. You can also buy the screenplay which is actually slightly different from the movie, for yet another version of the story.

_The Man Who Wasn't There_ is great, too, but it deserves to be seen on a big screen. Speaking of the Coen brothers, a MUST-RENT or BUY DVD is their first film _Blood Simple_ which includes one of the two funniest commentary tracks ever (the other being the _This Is Spinal Tap_ commentary by the band). Trust me - it's brilliant.

Last thing I rented for that DVD contraption? A Monty Python volume (can't remember which, unfortunately). I only own 3, anyway: all music so far: the new Charlatans DVD, Salival by Tool, and the "Singles" collection from Depeche Mode.

Curses on poverty;>!
