So anyway, what next?

Personally, I think anyone actually trying anything on a day when the paranoia is rampant seems a bit like poor planning.

I wish there was more information- was this a terrorist incident or normal American violence?

mike hanle y, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The fact that it was at El Al's counter raises the possibility of this being something more than slightly suspect.

someone said the thing in SAN DIMAS was just an accident. like a poor old guy's plane broke down and he crash-ed.

RJG, Thursday, 4 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That looks innocent, But as lynskey said earlier when I was discussing it with him, no-one attempting to jump a plane is going to go to an airport with a gun, security's too tight. Which lends credence to the "lone nutter" theory.

I just mentioned this news item to some American friends of mine - asking whether they had any more information - and borrowed Mike Hanle y's quote about was this 'just normal American violence'.

My friends have gone mental and are not speaking to me now, saying they can't believe how offensive that comment was.

Surely hardly a day goes by when we don't get to hear of a shooting somewhere in America, to the point that our reaction to the news can be rather blasé?

Yeah, I mean people getting killed, how fifteen minutes ago.

J Blount, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Forgive my cynicism, but I presumed that a) there was very little chance of an attack on such an obvious day and that b) the whole increased security thing was a stunt to combine the patriotism of Independence Day with the whole Fortress America War on Terror thing.

It's very unfortunate, but I fear CJ's otm here. How much of it is due to the gun laws is very debateable.

It was Serge, the psychopathic seal.

Terrorists have rarely been known for their high regard for human life. I do wonder, though, what is going through a person's mind when planning something like this.

Their boundaries as defined by Ptolemy and other geographers of antiquity were drawn along the Nile and Don rivers.
