pffffft

-10.00 in both eyes

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

left to right, -8.0 and -8.5, ish, with -1.25 and -1.0 astigmatism (one of them's 85 degrees, forget the other one)

My glasses would be weak on snoball, and his would be strong on me, but looks like we could both make it down the street.

A little bit short-sighted in one eye, a little bit long-sighted in the other.

acoleuthic, Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

-6.5, -7.5 dunno which is which, dont have contacts so dont really think abt it.

plax (ico), Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

My eyes are just bad enough so I have to wear glasses, and just awkward enough to make contacts not worth it.

nate woolls, Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

Wear your specs with pride.

kenan, Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

i can't wear glasses anymore--i get more bang for my buck with contacts

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

At -10 in both eyes, I'd really look into surgery. No, seriously.

kenan, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

acoleuthic, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

i would still probably have to wear glasses. i think -10 is pushing it as far as lasik goes.

Mr. Que, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

my sister is -8 in both and they told her she cant have surgery, hope its not the same for me

plax (ico), Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe Minority Report surgery then. Just get some new eyeballs.

The path to SIN and RUIN and DESTRUCTION

kenan, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

Ok maybe you're right. That sounds like kind of a lot of fun.

kenan, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i (at -7.0) asked my doc once about LAZERS and he said well, only if you have a really thick eyeball. i think -10.0 might be right out.

anyway, a friend of mine has had an unpleasant outcome to lazers and i'm pretty happy with disposable contacts so

mookieproof, Sunday, 4 April 2010 20:46 (fifteen years ago)

working outdoors + glasses is so nasty in hot weather, I'm tempted by LAZERS but, yow, two grand.

Fortunately Kenan looks really good in glasses.

I have 20/15 vision, so I have nothing else to add in this thread.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Sunday, 4 April 2010 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

Well then. I certainly appreciate your input. :)

kenan, Sunday, 4 April 2010 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

lolling about in the middle of the night without my lenses in i realise i am totally fucked should i ever lose one. should really get some backup glasses but haven't owned a pair in several years. bit of an effort tbh.

measured in mm. I tried reading the wikipedia entry on prescription eyeglasses but it was all whoosh. just know degree (the first one) refers to the power of magnification it something

Presume it's astigmatism in both eyes that makes it difficult to judge a straight line....I often track a spreadsheet line along with my finger to make sure.

Bob Six, Monday, 5 April 2010 09:39 (fifteen years ago)

"Sph" or "Sphere" means how close the eyeball is to being a perfect sphere shape. Negative numbers mean the eyeball is slightly shorter when measured from front to back = short sighted. Positive numbers mean the eyeball is slightly longer = long sighted. "Cyl"/"Cylinder" and "Axis" define how much astigmatism there is and where it is, respectively.

Convenience Fish (snoball), Monday, 5 April 2010 09:43 (fifteen years ago)

interesting astigmatism fact: did yall know that El Greco is sometimes thought to have had astigmatism and that's why all his figures are so distorted?

plax (ico), Monday, 5 April 2010 11:30 (fifteen years ago)

I only know my sph: +0.0 in both eyes. They didn't tell me the others and told me to go forth in peace.

caek, Monday, 5 April 2010 11:33 (fifteen years ago)

They didn't tell me the other numbers, I mean. Not the scores for my other eyes. I only have two eyes and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

caek, Monday, 5 April 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

Right Sph = -3.00 Cyl = -1.00 Axis = 65
Left Sph = -3.25 Cyl = -0.75 Axis = 110

I've worn glasses since I was 12 and my prescription hasn't changed much for ages. Nasty creeping feeling that the next few years will include the onset of some longsightedness too, and a one-way journey to The Land of Bi-Focals.

Bill A, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 07:59 (fifteen years ago)

I've worn glasses since I was 8 (I'm now 36) and in the last 10 years I've got slightly less short sighted.

Convenience Fish (snoball), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 10:34 (fifteen years ago)

-2.25
-2.5

can't remember which way round. My eyes don't change much, they've been around -2 for 2 years. And I have mild astigmatism in one eye, but again I can't remember which one, because I don't actually notice it.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

heh that should say around -2 for 20 years...

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 6 April 2010 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

-1.75 L
-2.5 R

don't know any other numbers. wear glasses all the time, but probably don't really need to bar driving and tv.

contacts for sport, socialising

Jesse James Woods (darraghmac), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 10:41 (fifteen years ago)

Wow, I am -0.75 in both eyes (just had eye test, excited abt having some numbers to post cz I couldn't read my previous optician's handwriting - lol etc) and I thought I was pretty shortsighted, but it's the smallest on the thread yet? No more being shamed when the other half expects me to see a picture on his monitor 6ft away and has to zoom in about 5 times until it fills the screen and then I usually still have to admit that I don't really know what I'm looking at.

I can get by w/o glasses round the flat, but I try not to leave the flat without them on cz I have trouble reading signs and can't tell if I know anyone more than 2 feet away, what the front of the bus says in time to hail it, etc. Can't drive but wouldn't be allowed to learn without glasses.

can't tell if I know anyone more than 2 feet away

this is the worst part of it by far.

OD | sphere: -3.50 | cylinder: -1.25 | axis: 090
OS | sphere: -3.50 | cylinder: -1.00 | axis 105

A little worse than I stated previously, but not too bad. I've remained pretty steady the past ten years, with only subtle changes from prior rxs.

kate78, Thursday, 8 April 2010 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

xpost solution is just waving to everyone who could possibly be someone you know.

sometimes if i look at ILX without my glasses i will see a post by "earlnash" and read it as "sarahell"
