What is your earliest memory?

I'm not sure of mine, it's either me trying to open a big 6 pack of crisps as a baby and being stopped by my dad or watching someone on Tiswas pretending to be Prince Charles.

My earliest memory is Green.

When I was very young (not sure how old I was) I had a severe breathing difficulties and had to be put in an oxygen tent. Apparantly, I didn't like it too much (lots of screaming/crying/kicking/struggling) but I don't remember any of that. I just remember that it was green - I guess I must have been a formalist baby; soon grew out of that though.

Oh, one of my earliest memories is the day I got hold of a blue marker pen and drew all over my dads books, I thought he'd be pleased, but he wasn't. Mum and dad took away my colouring pens after that, for what seemed like ages.

I was born prematurely, I think I have some extremely hazy recollections of incubator existence. It might have just been Green, though. Otherwise, I remember toddling around at age 3 or so.

I was 2...I had an infected shot in my thigh, and I was in the hospital, strapped down to a board and was given no local or general anesthetic as they drained and cut at my leg. Not a very pleasant first memory. I'm lucky to still have that leg. Now there's a huge dented scar in it though.

I have no way to actually KNOW it's my earliest memory, but I believe an image I have of the kitchen floor at my old house is the one.

Seeing an elephant at the Sydney zoo. It stood on a rise swinging its trunk slowly from side to side.

i am two years old and i live in the country. my family have just gotten home from the metropolis that is "wanaka", post grocery shopping expedition so i am dressed up in my best clothes, a little red-and-white outfit that my mother knitted for me. it has just been raining so there are some mega puddles in the yard. i ask my mum if i could go outside and play, and she says, "okay, but put your gumboots on and don't play in the puddles." i put my gumboots on and i play in the puddles, and i ruin my best outfit. why do i remember this occasion? cos for once i didn't get told off for disobeying my parents, they just came outside and watched me and laughed.

I remember playing pattycake and I remember riding Big Wheels in the woods with my best friend, a 3 yr old girl named Ani. I remember Ani was hot. I don't know how we rode Big Wheels in the woods, those things hardly roll on pavement. I don't remember if the the pattycake predated the Big Wheels or what. A ba dee a ba dye.

Aged two and a half, playing with gigantic cubes in kindergarten. It's funny how I mainly remember insignificant things. Never the important things.

In my crib, yelling bloody murder for my mom, and (I must have been kneeling/upright in crib for the optics to work) hallucinating a small fire in the hallway that was visible thru my open door. And discovering I could also make the fire appear on the needlepoint alphabet framed on the opposite wall.

There was a bright light, and then somebody slapped me.

Tim! STOP STEALING MY LINES!

My actual first memory is pinching my finger in the closet door of my parents' house when we were initially looking at it. I was two.

I think it's painting my mom's dog yellow, but I am really not that sure about it. Could be my dad shooting the goat too.

1. Eating out of the cat food bowl alongside the cat (from whom I will later derive my better pornstar name). I find it tasty, and and am unimpressed by the reasons given when I am advised to cease (by my mom: cat = unbothered either way).
2. Walking out onto Welwyn Garden City Campus with my grandfather, in the bitter hard winter of 63: the fountains have frozen IN THE FORM OF FOUNTAINS!! I remember them as towering cascading pillars of ice: probably they are only four or five foot tall (ie much smaller than when unfrozen).
3. Sitting among happy young adult feet as they dance to the Beatles on the radio, "She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah", with the sun streaming into the room past the wirelress set on a high windowsill.

My first memory was when I was three or so I fell down a very deep well. A farmer in the field got help... A very scarey time. The odd thing was I was jumping on the cover,it flipped, I went down & the cover fell in on me. There was just room for my little hads to hold onto that cover. It took a couple of people to pry my hands loose . Gale

six months pass...
I'm glad I did a search. I had a feeling this thread would already exist. My first memories are of the first two times I walked, technically and then officially. I remember wobbling up to my feet in my parents' old house in Kissimmee, Florida and stumbling a few hesitant steps forward. My mother was in the kitchen, and she looked over the counter as I stood there ... "Christopher, are you walking?" I remember she had a smile on her face. At that point, I fell down.

Then there was the first time everyone saw me walk. My parents didn't believe that the memories were true, but I told them I remembered the big group of my aunts and uncles who were there (normally, they lived in Ohio and Michigan), and I told them where I began the walk and the diagonal path across the living room towards my father, who caught me in his arms. I suppose that's a good one, your first memory being an 'achievement' ..
