Edie Falco is... Nurse Jackie

Is anybody else watching this? I almost quit a few episodes into the first season because of the short length of the episodes, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. It's a well-written show with a female protagonist who acts up in ways male characters like Tony Soprano and Don Draper get to.

I've only seen episode 1 of this season, but I thought it was pretty great.

Nurse Jackie is totally my current obsession right now and I'm trying really hard to turn a great deal of people onto it. I also have a total daddy-crush on Eddie (or anyone else Paul Schulze plays) but I'm sad he's sort of being developed into a total creep. Also: no Momo, no crediblity; though I am glad Thor is getting more screen time this season. I think it's really refreshing to see Edie Falco in a character-driven lead; I mean, Carmela Soprano is fucking wonderful but so much of the character was "Carmela Soprano in relation to/reacting to/tied in with ___________" rather than "Carmela Sorpano: here she is!"

And I think Edie Falco's hair is FANTASTIC.

what is this show about

jihad mane (J0rdan S.), Monday, 5 April 2010 00:07 (fifteen years ago)

It's about Edie Falco playing a sassy no-nonsense yet genuine and caring nurse. That is mostly it. It sounds really boring but it works for reasons that are difficult to pinpoint. Stellar writing and cast have much to do with it. Most of it is her at work and her at home and how she keeps her two lives very, very separate and the difficulties of doing so.

i liked this a lot, heard the cute gay nurse wont be in the 2nd series tho

I love this show. A lot like Mad men in that every character, even relatively minor ones are pretty fleshed out and wrapped in their own personal insanity.I'm particularly enjoying the daughter's descent into madness (little harsh for a ten year old, but still)

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 5 April 2010 12:48 (fifteen years ago)

hope they are good at reminding you where they left off at the end of the last series, cos i know there was a coupl things abt to boil over, dont remember what they were. really like the short run time as well.

There was a good recap at the start of the first episode.

I love this show but can only watch it On Demand when I'm visiting my parents becuase I don't get cable. Haven't seen the new episode yet but sort of can't wait.

Wow, this lady is crazy. I realized recently that the whole Her-Eddie/Her-Kevin/Kevin-Eddie triangle doesn't actually have to end badly like it would on every other fucking show ever created, and I really hope it just continues the way it is now without anyone finding out. It's nice to see bad behavior go unpunished sometimes.

This season finale is going to be CRAAAAAAAZYYYYYYYYY!!! Every aspect of this woman's life is a delicate house of cards of lies. I get nervous/filled with suspense just watching her exist.

j/k like Jamiroquai (Stevie D), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:44 (fifteen years ago)

wasn't that exactly what the first season finale was? i haven't seen any of the 2nd one, but when i think i'll have some attention span for it, im right on it. kinda prefer to wait for it on tv though maybe?

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

Finale leaked... What a season! Most disturbed female character on tv, heh.

isn't this character just a female Gregory House?!?

No Guru, No Method, No Teacher (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

i caught the last three as of a few weeks ago when it leaked. kind of disappointed with the very final scene but I was last season as well, and last season's final scene didn't really lead anywhere this season, from what I could tell. Still I don't know how they're going to get around this.

yeah she is kind of House, that never occurred to me.

This is a show where the length really helps it; originally I'd thought it seemed slight but 27 minutes seems like the perfect amount of time for this kind of fucked-up-ness.

The link is broken :( bah, it is only a week away though. 5 days at this point.

Change the x to t-http :)

Forgot about weirdness of last season's end.. They didn't mention it at all. Silly.

this show is great, consistently funny and miles beyond Weeds for something that touches on a similar topic (parenting and drugs). end of this season was excellent.

akm, Thursday, 23 June 2011 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

Oh god, Weeds is awful now.

You know who's exceptionally handsome? The ex-addict indian murse.

Coops pretty annoying to watch.

weeds IS unwatchable, i agree. nurse jackie is just meh at best. the only Showtime shows i'd watch besides dexter would be californication (yeah yeah i know) and MAYBE united states of tara (if i had nothing better to do on a given say).

I have not seen NJ, and The Sopranos only once, but Edie Falco is invariably excellent in whatever films she does, and in a just (run by me) world she would be getting tons of award talk for an indie film this year called 3 Backyards.

incredibly middlebrow (Dr Morbius), Monday, 19 September 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

She was also pretty great in the otherwise weird and annoying The Quiet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414951/)

And thank you for the thread bump, I do believe I may be a full season behind this show now! Shame.

Caught up on some of these last time I was at my parents. I still think it's pretty good even though I've only seen a handful of eps since the first season.

i had to skip most of this because i am just starting season 2 but wow i really love this show - i think they kinda mismanaged it promo-wise, because i had no idea there was so much comedy in it (i mean obv theres plenty of not comedy too) and thought it was going to be a dark mopefest, which it totally isnt

tiniest homeless (jjjusten), Thursday, 6 December 2012 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

i meant skip most of this thread since that is not obvious right there

Guys, this is not going to be a v good season

hoda nkotb (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 15 April 2013 16:58 (twelve years ago)

At this point it's following a very established pattern and it is totally stale; there is nothing revealed in the first episode that would set it apart from any other season before it. It's like the inverse of Weeds: instead of rapid development and constant motion forward (albeit sloppy and batshit motion forward), nothing in Nurse Jackie seems to change, like, ever.

hoda nkotb (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 15 April 2013 17:05 (twelve years ago)

It has started again?

i mean the season picked up but this is not one of those things where very much plot-wise ever really *happens*, not compared to like Mad Men or Oz or The Sopranos. Everyone pretty much just keeps doing the exact same thing all of the time.
