The parenthetical episode count is interesting. Did Joan Chen really only sit out one episode? That can't be right--I thought she died with a few episodes remaining. And I'm surprised that Deputy Andy was absent for four episodes; I would have thought he was in all 30.

yeah. loved that scene. so much of this show is about double acts it seems

considering voting pete martell. is a don. chess genius, puts up with catherine's bullshit, and he has the best facial expressions ever. that kinda confused chewing invisible tobacca thing he does cracks me up. he has some great zings for catherine as well, a shame he got blown up and not her

despite kinda hating catherine martell, she is responsible for one of the funniest scenes when she dances with leland and the icelanders

seeing some of these youtube dvd rips makes me wonder if i missed out on much watching it on vhs

i pityvoted for pete. figured nobody else would, and that bummed me out. poor pete.

kinda surprised log lady was in 12 episodes. i only remember her from the pilot, of course, and then that other episode where coop & co visit her house, which leads to them heading to either the florist's, or that other place in the woods. but i guess she was at the diner a lot too.

there's that scene where she gets busted by norma for sticking her gum on the diner wall

Special Agent Dale Cooper. There are plenty of great characters on this show, but Kyle MacLachlan is just perfect.

I love how Cooper doesn't appear in the pilot until like 2/3rds of the way through and when he does it's a note perfect summation of his entire character

and kyle maclachlan plays him perfectly. just remember how he reads this line, in the hospital hallway: "what kind of fantastic trees have you got growing around here? big, majestic..."

I voted for David Lynch's character. I could easily watch a whole series of Gordon Cole yelling at people.

josie's death episode was prob the worst episode. not because she dies but because it's an anticlimax to such major plotting.

obv this should have been best character not named Special Agent Dale Cooper. Dude's the massive heart of the whole thing, and still (?) the most unusual lead character any of the networks ever had the balls to show. That said, supporting would be a toss-up between Audrey, Major Briggs, Albert Rosenfield, and Leland Palmer. Hawk and the Mayor both get slept on. Also, I'd love to see a poll for best scene.

sarah palmer doesn't have many lines but grace zabriskie steals every scene she's in. i also just finished S2. i've a lot of it many times, but this is the first time that i trudged all the way through some of the mid-to-late season stuff that gets a little bad sometimes (but in a way that i found very watchable).

i'd break it down like this. to. an. extreeeeeeeeeme. it seems unfair to directly compare characters who get a ton of screen time to those who are amazing but only appear briefly, so i roughly broke it down into two categories. and then within those, i have tiers, and then the tiers are (roughly) ordered.

characters who get a decent amount of screen time:

coop

leland (an amazing character, and a very strong performance. if either was weak, twin peaks wouldn't been nearly as good. this is part of the reason why S2 starts to fall apart - everything about windom earle blows imo)

pete, bobby, major briggs, big ed, albert, sarah palmer, hawk, nadine, jacoby

harry truman, gordon cole, audrey, norma, dick tremayne

maddy, donna, shelly, hank, leo

dr will hayward, mike (one-armed man)

ben horne, lucy, andy, annie, mike (bobby's friend)

memorable characters with less screen time

wasted potential non-award: Harold. i actually really like the idea of his character, and his lines aren't fantastic but they're also not nearly as bad as his acting.
