Have you ever accidentally bought a record you already own?

For yourself, obviously, not as a present.

no.

RJG, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. I've done it deliberately too.

not accidently no...bought some replacement CD versions of old tapes (smashing pumpkins, manics, megadeth, dinosaur jr). Oh dear.

Oh yeah.

JM, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup. I bought Abbey Road on CD, then a few months later found a vinyl copy lurking in my pad. I think that's the only one...

Tim Bateman, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, a few times, especially with the kind of compilations I find cheap at boot sales or in charity shops, Frank Sinatra or Johnny Cash say, where they're called My Way or A Boy Named Sue or something and even if you think you have an album called that you don't know if it's that one. However, I can print out lists from my database in tiny print, so I have cut the incidence of this. I could cut it to zero if I never went out without the bits of paper.

I've done it deliberatley. Bought CD copy of Thrills, Pills and Bellyaches today to replace the manky cassette I've had for years.

Norman Phay, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, I have also done this deliberately by way of upgrading, so have bought some favourite things on CD that I already own on crappy cassettes or ropey records, when I've come across the CD extremely cheap (like £3 or less).

Martin Skidmore, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just did this about a month ago. I felt like such a goofus (I know, I know "what does she mean felt like?"

Nicole, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

only occasionally with junk store crap (the main kind of records i buy)

, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

also if i see something cool in a junk store or sale bin i will buy it if i've got enough $$$ so's to give it to someone else.

, Friday, 5 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. I did this once, or maybe even twice, with Oum Kalthoum CDs. Trouble keeping those Arabic titles sorted out. I ended up giving away a copy of "Fat el Mead" (?) to someone who was unfamiliar with her, which was a shame since it's one of the least interesting recordings I've heard by Oum Kalthoum.

DeRayMi, Saturday, 6 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just did it this evening. Bought another LP copy of Miles's "Porgy and Bess" thinking here's one I don't have. Now I have two.
