Oh, there are half-a-zillion things. Nursing home issues (admissions, financing, treatment). Medical treatment, particularly medical decision-making and end-of-life decisions. Federal and state tax issues, particularly concerning estate, gift, and/or inheritance taxes. Surrogate decisionmaking -- particularly advance directives and guardianships. Probate court procedures and estate administration. Long-term insurance. Pension and employee benefits issues. Public benefits, like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Dealing with state and federal administrative agencies that deal with the elderly.
As for what I'll be doing on the committee, I'll find out when the appointment takes effect.
