Just saw the first movie dubbed into German. Kumar was dubbed by a guy doing an outrageous Apu from the Simpsons voice throughout the entire film. The voice actor kind of lost heart heart by the end of the film and started toning it way down, but the scene where Kumar is confronted by his father and brother in the hospital -- both of whom speak without an accent -- is kind of next level stuff.

We'll see; if it can live up to the high points of the first one(the bag sequence, e.g) then maybe.

The first one, which was OK for a stoner comedy. Just OK.

Second one will hold up when screened at a Films of the Aughts American Studies class.

How was the second one? I heard from a couple people that loved the first one that it was awful so I skipped it. Wrong move?

nowhere near as good as the first one, especially since they repeat a lot of the same gags, but it does get much more absurd (they wind up smoking weed with George W. Bush)

frogbs, Friday, 4 November 2011 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

2nd one was bleah. Not as funny or clever.

two weeks pass...

hey, just got back from seeing this one

actually, it was really funny, and IMO the best of the three. I was really really hoping that the movie wouldn't go into Clerks 2 territory where the two guys have to "make up" and give dumb speeches or whatever but those scenes were actually pretty good given all the craziness around them. like the first two everything escalates fairly quickly and it basically turns into a cartoon halfway through (actually in a literal sense too) but there are way more good jokes than the second one and a much larger budget than the first one. also there were some pretty clever 3D effects in this one, probably the only movie I've seen where the 3D actually adds something. overall definitely see it if you liked the first

also the NPH part was pretty amazing and breaks the 4th wall over and over again but still manages to be probably the funniest part of the movie

Thanks for the report, frogbs. I've never seen any of them, but I sorta feel like I should, y'know?
