Ok, I know it's ITV2 and I know that it's the vilest most degrading reality TV out there but please, lets ignore that and get to the root of it - is this fucking real?!

I mean, it's not obvious that any of the show is fake but some is either incredible acting or he really is desparate enough to let these guys do, umm, unspeakable acts to him. ILE probably probably isn't the finest forum to discuss this on, but it's possibly the only place where I can get an informed answer. If you're thinking of flipping this thread into a discussion on 'Is Reality TV evil?' then please start a new post. (if you don't know what Banged Up With Beadle is then I recommend that you keep it that way, it has caused no end of guilt and self-analysis in this little boy).

Seriously I do want to talk about this. Each week they take a member of the public and lock them in a cell with "Britain's most irritating man" (washed-up TV host Jeremy Beadle) in a disused WW2 offshore artificial-island fort for the chance to win £5000. He appears to be going mental yet promising it's really not that bad. Is this the most extreme TV show ever (I mean from Beadle's point of view)?

If it doesn't have sophie in it its all reality TV. In fact it is just TV and therefore crap.

i saw this listed in the Guide as "Ant and Dec's Banged up with Beadle" which i'm guessing is a mistake, but is a wonderful image nonetheless

who needs itv when you have CHANNEL FIVE!!

mark s, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I read that Channel 5 had gone highbrow.

What about Win Beadle's Money???

Tom, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

only if half hour docs on the most evil people in history = highbrow programming

RickyT, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey I watched BARBARIANS last night, well some of it anyway, I am keeping up on the latest Anc Hist thort!

Tom, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

IT is Ant and Dec's Banged Up With Beadle, it's an item on Ant and Dec's [whatever their new ITV1 vehicle is called]. Even more humiliating.

Graham, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Was that Barbarians program any good? I was going to watch but got too caught up in my book (Iain Sinclair = grebt, btw, thanks to all who recommended him)

RickyT, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually Tom I believe you were mumbling 'my lifes a ruin' and occasionally shouting 'so wot haf the barbarians done now then' whilst I got excited abt the possibility of barbarian civilisation all been COVERED UP by the bad Roman propagandists! Also, the vandals wrapped bandages around their kids skulls so they would grow up with skulls shaped the same as the HUNS! And the GOTHS established a peaceful village where Ayrian Christian and ahem 'other' Christian (okay I forget which variant) could worship and live together happily! Goths in yay for happy religion shocker!

Sarah, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See, Goths ARE worthy members of the community. Yay black clothes!
