puritan stuff

I'm taking a trip from Knoxville to Salem and looking at puritan-related and pilgrim-type stuff on the way (roanoke, jamestown, all manner of salem stuff, lots of mass. bay). Any recommendations that are off the beaten path? Don't worry I already know from jhoshea that new englanders are bored of this stuff

Roanoke is my favorite of the early settler sites, but if you're hitting Jamestown make sure at check out Martin's Hundred which is roughly 10 miles further east - a lesser known early settlement.

And though I believe it is a little different in its focus, there is Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth, NH. Still mainly 1600s, if I remember correctly.

I went to William & Mary and spent as much time as I could out at Martin's Hundred/Carter's Grove. One of my favorite American historical sites.

I wrote a time-travel story about Roanoke in seventh grade.

now i'm going as far north as gloucester (and i'm stopping in balti to see tz <3).

any suggestion of related stuff to do between, say, richmond VA and Mass? Delaware relatable stuff is a little late for me. i mostly care about pre-1660s, but if there's something really great, I'll go. Pilgrim type ish in 2010

the providence athenaeum might have some stuff going on, depending on when you're there - there was a cool-sounding presentation on anne hutchinson a couple months ago

it's members-only, but most of their events are open to non-members for a fee iirc

the congregational library in boston is also really interesting, and not very well known (albeit not very touristy either)
