nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

jane lynch would be awesome

mama's boy otis, i'm one of a kind (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

maria bamford but realistically jane lynch

A B C, Monday, 26 April 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

Toni Collette would be cool

Roomful of Moogs (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

jane lynch would obv be amazing, but i can't tell if a. they would pigeon hole her like they do the megan fox/january jones types by having her do her raunchy schtick in a bunch of skits and b. if that happened, would it even be a bad thing

i think portia de rossi would prob turn in the best episode -- she might be the most versatile

nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)

Colette would be cool and obviously Lynch but I voted Caplan.

Il suffit de ne pas l'envier (Michael White), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

yeah portia imo

call all destroyer, Monday, 26 April 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)

haha thanks sarge, i kinda thought "it'd be interesting to see the results if this were a poll" but i wasn't about to plug my own shit on here

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

i think portia de rossi would prob turn in the best episode -- she might be the most versatile

i think she kills generally but i can see her getting pigeonholed into playing vapid/bitchy in every skit. i mean i guess thats better than the just standing around type of shit megan fox does but

there really isnt anyone on here that i ~wouldnt~ want 2 watch think they are all appealing & charming & funny but bell or fisher might the best at str8 carrying a show.

where display names die, unrecognized (Lamp), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

Maria Bamford is probably more realistic as a possible cast member, even if she'd have to reign in some of her craziness and might feel redundant unless Wiig already left by then.

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

i would probably watch everyone except heigl

sonderangerbot, Monday, 26 April 2010 20:17 (fifteen years ago)

people hate on Scrubs and all but Sarah Chalke went ham on that show often enough in terms of sacrificing vanity for the sake of a laugh that i think she might have the most sketch comedy potential here

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:19 (fifteen years ago)

^^^ real talk

Marriage, that's where I'm a Viking! (HI DERE), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:20 (fifteen years ago)

xcept she kinda sucked on himym

where display names die, unrecognized (Lamp), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:21 (fifteen years ago)

well they made her character kind of a drag, it's not like they gave her Barney-type jokes and she fell on her face

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

Krakowski would def be good, hopefully by the end of 30 Rock's run NBC will give her a turn...kind of surprised McBrayer hasn't hosted already really.

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

man i confused sarah chalke and sarah michelle gellar for the longest time -- like, i don't think i knew that it was sarah chalke or who sarah chalke even was until like 2008

nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

well they made her character kind of a drag, it's not like they gave her Barney-type jokes and she fell on her face

yeah true but i mean its a lot more likely they give her boring str8 man roles for than she gets 2 portray the kind of nuanced mania that made her scrubs character funny/interesting *shrug*

the last female host that i thought they used well was lohan & thats cuz she invests the bystander/this is where im hot skits with charm & ease. not watching the show on the reg or anything but thats y i think bell/fisher/greer wld be gr8 hosts.

but really dude that sd any1 but heigl is otm

where display names die, unrecognized (Lamp), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)

or get heigl-lohan co-host 4 gab tribute

where display names die, unrecognized (Lamp), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

well in the actual post i explain the Heigl suggestion as making her put her money where her mouth is after complaining that only the guys were funny in Knocked Up

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

oh lol I was thinking Lizzy Caplan was the annoying scatterbrained female correspondent who showed up on The Daily Show a couple of times

Marriage, that's where I'm a Viking! (HI DERE), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

the flight of the conchords girl? ugh.

btw i'd like to file a write-in vote for this woman:

That reminds me, has Leslie Mann ever hosted?

Roomful of Moogs (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:39 (fifteen years ago)

haha when would she have hosted? after the runaway popularity of her 5th-billed performance in Big Daddy?

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:45 (fifteen years ago)

It's hard to say -- I think some of the best hosts end up not having that much of a comedy background on their resume. Like Alec Baldwin before 30 Rock.

ô_o (Nicole), Monday, 26 April 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

yeah it's all guesswork, you never know. but the list was inspired by the annoyance how many proven funny women who've been in popular shows/movies have never hosted when friggin January Jones gets the gig.

surmudgeon (some dude), Monday, 26 April 2010 21:02 (fifteen years ago)

xp Definitely true! Great list as it is though.

Nhex, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

Portia de Rossi

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

in the end, the honest of the show matters a lot less than the writing / supporting cast imo ...a good host can make a so-so sketch sorta funny, but a great SNL episode needs great writing. I can't imagine any person in the world hosting a fantastic episode w/ SNL's current set-up, so I guess my real answer is "it doesn't matter, the episode would still prolly suck"

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

'honest' = 'host'

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

and I'd still watch it, god only knows why

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:17 (fifteen years ago)

Kristen Bell, but mostly because I have a huge crush on her. Jane Lynch would be funnier though.

this season has definitely been weaker than the last couple before it, and i think it's probably the writing since the cast is more or less the same, but i think there have still been strong episodes this season that you can give the host ample credit for.

yeah but I still think that's the 'turning so-so sketch into sorta funny' thing. I know "SNL ain't what it used to be" is a pretty tired complaint, but I rate late 90s/early 00s SNL pretty highly

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

haha I italicized the wrong thing

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'm ridiculously tired today

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

also the key difference between 2010-snl and the last few years: amy poehler, who could carry basically any sketch.

iatee, Monday, 26 April 2010 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

the best parts of the season this year imo are: kenan's continued dominance, the emergence of bobby moynohan & Tina Tina Cheneuse

nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 April 2010 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

Elizabeth Banks or Judy Greer. One of those two.

Obama, Wellstone and Darwinfish, Attorneys (Pancakes Hackman), Monday, 26 April 2010 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still disappointed they got rid of Casey Wilson for being fat, I think she would have really developed into a strong cast member.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 26 April 2010 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

Katherine Heigl, because i wonder what she's been up to lately.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 26 April 2010 23:18 (fifteen years ago)

Aisha Tyler why because she look intersting

kind of loam but mostly sand (los blue jeans), Monday, 26 April 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

yeah Casey and Michaela Watkins both showed a lot of potential imo, at the very least more than Jenny Slate

jenny slate's tina tina character is better than anything michaela or casey ever did, but her & nasim pedrad are pretty much the same person

nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

michaela watkins forever.

A B C, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)

apropos of nothing, but wiig's suze orman sketch was seriously like being raked over the coals

nabisco infiltrator (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

So sick of Wiig at this point. All of her recurring characters this season suck.

i'd vote for any of the black females because i was thinking when gabourey was on how great it was to see a black female on the show who wasn't just the musical guest. aisha tyler is hella funny, so if i have to pick one... her.

altered dominant (get bent), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 02:38 (fifteen years ago)

can i write in a vote for rupaul?

they definitely look/sound similar but pedrad has actual comedy chops and a pretty versatile bag of impressions whereas slate is, that one character aside, pretty much worthless

hongrosphere (some dude), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 09:48 (fifteen years ago)

I'm still disappointed they got rid of Casey Wilson for being fat

Wait, is this actually true?

Shannon Whirry and the Bad Brains, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 11:03 (fifteen years ago)

Rupaul is a great idea. Coulda plugged the drag race finale!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 27 April 2010 12:41 (fifteen years ago)

Wait, is this actually true?

I've yet to see it confirmed by a completely reliable source, but it has popped up quite a few times in gossip rags and blogs. Here's one place I saw it.

And even that comes from a source that the writer calls "unreliable", but still I've seen the rumor enough to wonder if there isn't some truth behind it.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I'm still disappointed they got rid of Casey Wilson for being fat

cuz it's not like kenan thompson or bobby moynihan are carrying any extra pounds.

bette ghent (get bent), Monday, 3 May 2010 01:44 (fifteen years ago)

although i think kenan has lost some weight since last season? maybe the only black guy in the cast is tired of not being able to play the black president.

bette ghent (get bent), Monday, 3 May 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

You mean an institution like SNL would dare to hold women to a different set of body type expectations than their male counterparts? Shocking!

Jane Lynch hosting next week! Emma Stone in a few weeks should be good, too.
