Testimonials all the way. Invariably sort of hokey and stilted but it was really sweet that all your friends felt obliged to advertise you to the world. Wall posts OTOH have passed into a hyperreality of ephemeral pointlessness - so much is written so constantly that none of it matters.

I forgot about Testimonials. I love the ones my friends wrote for me, and am now remembering the ones I wrote for others. Fuckin' toasts, those things were.

Friendster seems like a thousand years ago. I don't even remember these testimonial things.
Myspace was always a shitpile, but for a couple years it was obligatory.
Facebook is headed down the same tracks Myspace went, but is slower to get there.

For me, basic problem with all three is combination of advancing feature creep which takes away original sense of fun and easy-going-ness, plus the fundamental paradox of social networking sites: you want a critical mass of people actually using it or it's stupid (hence the rapid decline of Friendster once it was clear that for whatever reason everyone was switching to MySpace), but once absolutely everybody and your 5th grade class president is on it, it stops being an adequate internet playground because you really don't want to let everyone in the universe in on all aspects of your life.

What's funny about the Myspace open casting call for GLEE is that it seems like a lot of people have to create a Myspace account all over again to either submit themselves or vote.
