Anthony, did I tell you about our crazy neighbour who invited a few sailors to her flat? She was very drunk, wanted to have a party... it was hot, she threw off some clothes... the sailors wanted *more* (or less depending how you look at it hahaha) she suddenly realized it was going the wrong way... so she ran off COMPLETELY NAKED flailing her arms in the air "weeee"... in the street. hahahah

nathalie, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I watched a documentary last night about sailors vs U-Boats in the war. It was ok, but not as good as the one that PROVED that man did not wipe out the Dodo, IT WAS THOSE STOOPID PIGS!$^£!

STOOPID PIGS I HATE THEM #'£%^&*

Steve.n., Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have decided I am going to do a film called Planet of the Humans where a spaceship full of pigs comes back to earth after the pigs have destroyed everything to find the world inhabited by HUMANDS!£%^

Robin is the second toughest in the band who is also 20 years old. He was born on New Years Day making him a Capricorn. Robin is the dark haired boy in the band nicknamed NRG (ENERGY) who loves his triple L mottoe 'Live, Laugh & Learn'. His favourite food is Sushi with a non-alcoholic fruit cocktail. Robin admires female vocalists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Madonna.

Starry making airplane noises! It's adorable.

nabisco%%, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

arrrr, sailors.

imagine being stuck on a submarine on a round the world trip with a load a load of sweaty sailors all getting claustrophobic and jumpy from the tension of never seeing the surface.

DV, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah to sailing, its all about fishing! Though I guess since their are no fish left might as well sail.

Mr Noodles, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I still hate popeye.

jel --, Monday, 8 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanted to be Popeye when I was five or so. Never liked spinach, though.

Now me, I had a sailor in the house all the time -- namely my dad, who I've mentioned was a career Navy officer, graduated from the academy '62, retired '92, mostly worked in the sub fleet. For me the modern US Navy was just part of my upbringing, but I never really dealt much with the 'let's-get-wasted-and-trash-Subic-Bay' part of it. An oddly sheltered existence, but then again, I very rarely lived on a base itself outside of two years in Mare Island near San Francisco. The Navy was just where my dad worked, and sometimes I got to go visit it. Always regret not being able to wear my 'Moscow University' shirt to the Point Loma base in the late eighties...

Solaris? Alang did you know that you bake Unix Solaris servers in an oven until they rise? It's the truth.

Sarah, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are you saying the Sun also rises?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pokey the penguin, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

more hemingway/operating system jokes please. ahem

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In my (admittedly limited) experience, sailors get angry if you go on and on to them about weevils in the ship's biscuits and then decline to sleep with them. They also (based again on limited experience) seem to labour under the impression that a bunch of girls whom they have just met are dying to give them blowjobs. They also seem to think that claiming to have a penis with an eight inch diameter (and a length of twelve inches) will somehow up their chances of getting a blowjob, which is downright foolishness.

Actually, based on my limited experience of them, sailors are horny duds.

Nancy Drew, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my head has an 8 inch diameter. i mean my actual head, with the face and (ginger) hair and ears etc.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we call them Seamen?

Nicole, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"I think women and seaman don't mix!"
"WE KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!"

A prime Simpsons moment if ever there was one.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eight inch diameter???? Are they trying to get blowjobs from hippos or something?

nabisco%%, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, hippos would have been a more appropriate target than us, slender girls with dainty mouths.

This girth-related claim was preceded by the phrase 'I hate to be vulgar, but...blah blah eight inch diameter blah blah'. I don't believe him: I think he loved being vulgar.

People often claim the worst regrets pertain to opportunities missed. I wonder if I will one day be an old lady sitting in my chair reminiscing, and I will feel a keen stab of regret that I didn't blow that vulgar, crusty old salt? It doesn't seem very likely.

Alan Trewartha, you little ginger tyke, your tiny head is now haunting me.

Nancy Drew, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
revive! does anyone like to sail? regale me with your knowledge, for i am dinghy.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I grew up around boats. When I was six years old, I spent a year on a sailboat with my family, travelling from Toronto to the Bahamas which was loads of fun. After that, I usually spent every weekend of the summer sailing around to various places in Canada. I never really enjoyed the sailing part of it though. I was usually more interested in the places we'd go. I dunno.. it can be nice, but it's still a little too slow going for me. Some say that's part of the charm, but whatever. I don't have the patience so when I can afford it I'll probably be one of those assholes who goes out and buys a powerboat instead.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I should also add that despite my 25+ years worth of being around boats, I still don't know how to sail.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

S'troo.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, sailing is very zen. to sail from Newport to Catalina Island (southern CA) took us several hours; in a car it would have been 45 minutes (if there were a road). but if the weather is good i simply love being in a sailboat, the lack of motor noise, the waves. i like sailing in the harbor for that reason, just the water. the open ocean (the Pacific) is pretty intimidating. my favorite part is approaching the harbor, when it calms down a bit. i'd like to go sailing more. I can sail a dinghy by myself but can only be crew on a larger sailboat.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 22 February 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd probably enjoy it more now if I had the chance to go out by myself or with my girlfriend and learn how to do it properly. I actually don't mind sailing when there's a good wind or lots of waves, but when you're only doing two knots or worse, then I just kind of lose interest.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 22 February 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I grew up sailing, too- but only on lakes. We had Sunfishes, which are still my favorite boats ever- I started racing by going out with all my cousins & zipping around in them. At one point between my grandpa/dad/uncles we had 5 or so Sunfishes, so we had awesome races, booms swinging across other people's boats, tipping each other over, and all sorts of unfair play. I've raced Catalinas and FJs and random other smallish boats with my family & in college since then, but never very seriously. My puppy has been out on the Catalina 22, which he adores, but I'm a bit scared about taking him out on anything smaller- he might try to chase the seagulls & end up in the water. ;-)

My sister likes to tell me that I am not a real Taurus, since I need to be on or in the water as much as possible-- when I was growing up, I used to take one of the sunfishes out, anchor it, and hang off it, just lying in the sun, for hours.

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 22 February 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It's always been my ambition to send someone a dozen naked sailors for their birthday, it seems like an impressive gift. But I have never figured out who would most enjoy it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Sunday, 22 February 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

kiss me sailor!
before you go out the door
well now
bye bye sailor boy
'cause it's anchors away once more
