***this is the correct poll with the right date!***
How have you voted in today's election? (Apologies for lumping so many parties together under 'Others' - this is not discrimination against the SNP or anyone, just trying to avoid the inevitable 'hilarious' pretend votes for the BNP etc.)

I am not a subject of the British crown.

moderator requiem forum (The Reverend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 07:40 (fifteen years ago)

But still controlling votes?
Where's full list please?

not_goodwin, Thursday, 6 May 2010 07:49 (fifteen years ago)

Hilarious pretend vote for the Greens here.

Vision Creation Mansun (NickB), Thursday, 6 May 2010 07:56 (fifteen years ago)

Where's full list please?

Just go for 'others' and post which party. If we put a full list then it turns into a joke as loads of people claim to be voting for the Monster Raving English Democrats or whatever.

Home Taping Is Killing Muzak (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:00 (fifteen years ago)

to be fair, the Monster Raving English Democrats have run a good campaign.

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:02 (fifteen years ago)

Bit unfair to leave the Greens off on the election where they might actually get their first MP.

Does anyone else always feel after voting "shit, did I tick the right box?" I am comforting myself with deciding that if I did tick the wrong box it was the one above what I wanted, which was the Greens, so nobody really evil.

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:30 (fifteen years ago)

And yes I ALWAYS get that feeling that I've ticked the wrong box. Makes no difference where I live though. Unless, of course, everybody did it.

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:31 (fifteen years ago)

Err, there is that I s'pose. You have spotted the giant hole in my argument. (xpost)

xylyl syzygy (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:32 (fifteen years ago)

Bit unfair to leave the nationalists/unionists off on the election where they might actually determine major policy decisions

Greatest contributor: (history mayne), Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:35 (fifteen years ago)

I voted Labour in the end. I was far from dead set on it and then looked at my polling card and saw my constituency is now Eltham, which is surely a contender for a first BNP seat. My vote suddenly feels much more important.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:57 (fifteen years ago)

Actually having just checked, it isn't, but there's still the possibility of a Tory gain.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 May 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

Voted Corbyn

Another "hilarious" pretend vote for the Greens here. They actually have a chance here though.

Voted Corbyn we missed him at the polling station by twenty minutes, apparently

went ham in a bad way (stevie), Thursday, 6 May 2010 09:49 (fifteen years ago)

not voted. labour safe seat. considered voting lib dem for better position on civil liberties and being the only party seemingly with any interest in reforming the banks, but they'll probably just end up in coalition with the tories and i don't want to be a part of that.

it's kind of amazing that if the polls are right today, cameron only has about as much support as blair did in 2005 after becoming a war criminal in the eyes of a large part of the country.

joe, Thursday, 6 May 2010 09:52 (fifteen years ago)

Well Cameron supported the war as well so that's about fair.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Thursday, 6 May 2010 10:23 (fifteen years ago)

However, if the presiding officer suspects you are incapable of voting you will be asked a series of questions to determine whether you are up to the task of casting your ballot.

Man I love a pub quiz

Chris de Burgin' (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 6 May 2010 10:50 (fifteen years ago)

I wonder if the Monster Raving Loonies could increase their vote by handing out free booze on the way to the polling station.

Matt DC, Thursday, 6 May 2010 10:51 (fifteen years ago)

I wonder if that's illegal. It was more or less compulsory in the 18th century.

Voted Labour

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 6 May 2010 12:07 (fifteen years ago)

Voted for the Lib Dems' Doctor Death (according to the charming columnists of the Mail and Torygraph) in LD/Con possibly-marginal before work.

In previous years have voted early evening and rewarded myself with a trip to the pub nearest the polling station afterwards. Voting at 8am and then getting the bus to work distinctly less rewarding.

xylyl syzygy (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 6 May 2010 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

Liberal Democrats Winning Here.

Meowsy McDermott, Thursday, 6 May 2010 13:17 (fifteen years ago)

another corbyn here (ilx constituency of choice, clearly) - there were a group of labour-stickered twentysomethings knocking on doors as i wandered up to the polling station, the first suggestion i'd seen of canvassing all election season.

control (c sharp major), Thursday, 6 May 2010 14:06 (fifteen years ago)

And another Corbyn - they called on me Monday lunchtime, and the man himself was in my ward Tuesday morning, and I've had loads of leaflets from them, but I think that was more for the council than for him.

Just voted Labour.

Home Taping Is Killing Muzak (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)

i kinda regret not getting my shit together in enough time to apply for a postal vote in my parents' constituency (tory-held not-really-marginal-but-nearly with lib dems). both my old (as of a few months ago) and new london constituencies are really safe labour (with much justification for jeremy corbyn, and none for useless meg hillier).

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 6 May 2010 15:54 (fifteen years ago)

Hah, Meg Hillier's constituency has two separate Communist parties on the ballot paper.

Am I Re-elected Yet? (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 May 2010 16:26 (fifteen years ago)

Just voted in Bethnal Green & Bow, the Labour candidate was outside when I turned up and she looked petrified and exhausted compared to times I've seen her previously.

James Mitchell, Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

not eligible to vote, but would have gone for the lib dems.

nevermind312, Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

I decided today that I'm not gonna vote, after a lot of soul-searching. However, I have now opened the Gordon's so there's about 3 hrs to change me mind.

NAGLuck, UK (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

I've missed this afternoon, has anybody pointed out that Farage was in a Polish plane?

NAGLuck, UK (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

LOL, reminds me of the joke we had in grade school about why the Polish Armada failed. (Because the dumpster sank; NB I am 12.5 per cent Polish).

sharia twain (suzy), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

Farage was making an "exit Poles" joke at the time and the resulting dead air caused the plane to spin

mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

voted Labour in Bethnal Green & Bow

ears are wounds, Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

I don't get the Polish Armada joke, but then I'm not really sure what 'dumpster' or 'grade school' mean.

Home Taping Is Killing Muzak (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 6 May 2010 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

Voted earlier in Bethnal Green & Bow. I could barely get past the gates for Respect party leaflets shoved at me. Xpost James Mitchell; Ali, the labour party candidate look fairly harassed when I saw her a couple of weeks back, not sure if she's a serious contender for the Banglatown voters.

mmmm, Thursday, 6 May 2010 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

Sorry, sprechen American. Dumpster = skip. Grade = Primary.

We now return to our British English services, innit.

sharia twain (suzy), Thursday, 6 May 2010 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

i live in a very safe Con constituent, so went for the runner up party, Lib Dem, in the hope that others reduce the house flippers f*ckers margin.
doubt it though.

Just voted (Westminster) - was pretty surprised to see Pirate Party UK on the ballot, especially next to 'Mad Cap'n Tom' (Independent).

Somehow didn't realise that there was a local council election too? What are you supposed to base your vote on for those? I have no idea what elected officials at that level actually do (channeling Lex here a bit!), my ward is like 3 streets.

I voted for him back in 1997 when he first got in.

We've had builders/workmen round for the last few months. They finished today, and while clearing their shit out of the back guardian, managed somehow to snap the aerial off our Sky dish so we have no TV to watch the election coverage on. Which might be a blessing I suppose.
