Due to the Red Scare and her progressive political views, Horne found herself blacklisted and unable to get work in Hollywood.
Returning to her roots as a nightclub performer, Horne took part in the March on Washington in August 1963,

"Odd-looking woman" doesn't bother me in terms of "how disrespectful"--I know it's just an observation and not meant that way--I'm just puzzled how you could reach that conclusion. To me, she's just flat-out gorgeous.

A major bio was published in the last few months, I read the NYT review. Most of what I know about her came from the publicity following her Broadway one-woman show circa 1980.

amateurist, you're too fussy, you'll never get yourself a girlfriend that way

I'm impressed how she managed to rise to the top, against a tide of racism. She always seemed like a pertty complete package of talent, looks, and natural grace.
― Aimless, Monday, 10 May 2010 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
she is gorgeous, but odd-lookingly gorgeous. it's a fact.

"She is gorgeous, but odd-lookingly gorgeous."
Fair enough--I think the same about Lisa Loeb.

That may well be the only time in recorded history anyone has or will ever compare the two.

That's what I thought, but the file name said Lena so I went along with it, but you are right.

Sorry about that. I did think, "Hmmm, different look." I can't believe the internet coughed up unreliable information.

So Lena Horne died on May 10, 2010, but "RIP Lena Horne" comments are all over social media today (the third anniversary) as though it just happened. I'm assuming there was some kind of domino effect of misinformation? Anyway, it's weirdly amusing to me. Especially when people on Twitter say how much she meant to them -- like, if you were such a big fan, wouldn't you have known?

Oh wait, actually, she died on May 9, 2010, but some of the reports being linked are from May 10.
