His Wikipedia page merely lists the day of his death as today.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 10 May 2010 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

The man who totally revolutionised fantasy artwork, and whose paintings inspired the entire genre to create and recreate new work, has died at a hospital near his home in Boca Grande, Florida after suffering a stroke. Frank Frazetta was 82.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 10 May 2010 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

one of the rare sword & boobage illustrators who actually looked like one of his drawings.

Confirmation:

UPDATE: We are sad to confirm via Frazetta’s agent Robert Pistella that the artist passed away this afternoon in a hopital near his home. The cause of death was a stroke. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

RIP. Not an expert on his work, but it certainly is amazing stuff. Kind of taps into some kind of ultimate subconscious fantasy world. And seems like he was shameless in a good way.

dude damaged my little child mind rip

A whole different group people probably know his work on Lil' Abner - 9 years ghosting for Capp, most importantly on the Sundays from 54-61. The man had mad skills.

watch the family go mad with backhoes tearing each other's walls down NOW

r.i.p. awesome dude. your place is secure in the subconscious of at least a few generations of american males.

women are a bunch of dudes (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

I so so SO wanted to be him when I grew up. I learned how to draw anatomy (not to mention other lessons) from looking at his work. Rest well, Frank.

(not to mention other lessons)

Explains your peerless ability at hacking off the heads of shifty club-owners.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 01:32 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah - unless they're brunettes who look like Deja Thoris!

Bow Before Zeezrom!!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 11 May 2010 01:38 (fifteen years ago)

Good obit with quotes from John Milius, Neal Adams, Guillermo del Toro.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 May 2010 12:51 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't read any news yesterday and was totally unaware of this. Wow. Passing of a giant, dudes. I devoured those Conan paperbacks in 3rd grade, memorized the covers-- who knows how deep this stuff is embedded in me. God, that one with the ape man and the red cape--!!!

I remember a great, really long Frazetta interview in the Comics Journal at least 15 years ago or more-- not sure if it's collected anywhere.

Better bump some Gates Of Slumber today in honor.

The Frazetta documentary from a couple of years back is pretty essential viewing, IMHO. On Netflix, I think.

Decided to blast the Conan film score instead (RIP Basil Poledouris)

Great, big, well-illustrated obit by Tom Spurgeon.

A lengthy remembrance from the producer/director of the documentary about him.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 May 2010 04:08 (fifteen years ago)

Respect is due anyone whose NYT obit includes the word "callipygian."

Brad C., Wednesday, 12 May 2010 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

Magnificent formal appreciation of his painting, by Jesse Hamm.
