Was thinking of going along to that for a looksee. Still Edrich/Compton tickets available, not too pricey.
Might go to this Test on Saturday depending on how it stands. Not going to Lord's for the Pakistan/England series cos it's absurdly expensive, have got tickets for the Oval.

KP out against the left arm spinner for 18 to a ball that didn't turn. Strauss missed out on his ton, Trott made his century.

His crowing glee at being proved right is quite something, often hilarious - like the time he excitably gave out his email address so a listener could send him the details on a golfing matter on which he had been proved ultimately right, on a technicality (about why women shouldn't get a bonus stroke or something), then got loads of shit in his inbox.

.. he gets to stay in the team... basically
― Wenlock & Mandelson (Tom D.), Friday, 4 June 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)
But he knows a game of cricket
He does indeed, and I like his radio commentary, antidote to Nick Knight. You just wouldn't want him and Fred Trueman in the box at the same time.
I f'ing can't stand Bell, I really can't. I know he's done a bit more to earn his stripes this time around just with that 72 at the Oval. Apart from really hating his face, there's the way he scores - relatively fluent to about 30 odd, then gets bogged down, slows the innings down and gets out. If you're lucky.
― GamalielRatsey, Friday, 4 June 2010 15:29 (fifteen years ago)
Have the feeling Fred would not have wanted to be in the commentary box, or the room, or the ground, or the city at the same time as him too

― always changing, always the same (acoleuthic), Saturday, 5 June 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
No, I am as well - or at least make it tight. England have been a bit pedestrian, both batting and bowling, and I can't help thinking it would be deserved. I was hoping Bangladesh would get a few more runs and hang around slightly longer on the Monday at Lord's.
Rain apparently due on Monday at Old Trafford, showers tomorrow as well.

This planning for the hook, then Bangladesh obliging doesn't make for a great battle.

― always changing, always the same (acoleuthic), Saturday, 5 June 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)
i think strauss wont fancy batting last on the pitch so will bat again tbh. 3 days left. No doubt Botham & co will want them to bowl.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 5 June 2010 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
Of course if its overcast so the conditions are great for swinging then put them in, but if its sunshine and warm and great batting conditions go out and score 350 and have the best part of 2 days to bowl them out.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 5 June 2010 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
i'd put them in again. the weather here is very humid and likely to stay that way. showers forecast too so keep bangladesh on the back foot.
― thousands of masturbating weirdos (whatever), Saturday, 5 June 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)

Aggers says
The question now is will England make Bangladesh bat again? This is the sort of pitch where even a remotely cautious captain would not want to bat last.England have always said they treat Bangladesh like anyone else and if it was Australia I do not think they would enforce the follow-on, so though I think it would be a positive decision by England, I will be surprised if they do.

Im inclined to agree with him unless its to be overcast conditions most of the day.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 5 June 2010 22:40 (fifteen years ago)
aggers says one thing then the other there. no captain would want to bat last, but it would be a positive decision if england chose to...
it's raining this morning and likely to be cloudy with high humidity for a good part of the day. make them bat again: they're 200 behind to start with and england can't win unless they take 20 wickets. better to try and get those wickets now than set an improbable target and lose out to the weather on days 4 and 5.
― thousands of masturbating weirdos (whatever), Sunday, 6 June 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)
The pitch is only going to get worse to bat on, however Bangladesh have to score 300 to make us chase something approaching difficult and I can't see it.
― Jarlrmai, Sunday, 6 June 2010 09:32 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah they're way to weak to post any challenging total, Tamin notwithstanding. England shouldn't fear having to chase 100 odd, as Jarlmai says.
