Tempted to vote for Ian Hislop, since he's the only one I've never heard of.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 May 2010 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

It's between Ian Hislop and Jean Luc Godard.

Mark G, Friday, 28 May 2010 10:35 (fifteen years ago)

oh man this is hard. Don't know who Ian Hislop is so will probly go for Godard, RDJ, Kelis or Hitch.

aphex by a country mile

I'm voting for Godard cos he will be cruelly under-represented I suspect.

Wd vote for "Mike Tyson in his Wolves shirt" but, y'know, the other stuff.

Aphex Twin but only because I'm so boringly heteronormative I don't actually want to have sex with Kelis.

I'm afraid that Finnish phenomenologist Ugh Metapoll doesn't feature on the current Site New Answers page.

Great poll idea.

Aphex > Franzen > Kelis > Hislop > MIA > Gyllenhaal > Godard > Taylor Swift >>>> Hitchens >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tyson.

Godard is low because I've never seen one of his films but I don't actively dislike him either.

metapoll, drinkapoll.

Mark G, Friday, 28 May 2010 10:52 (fifteen years ago)

Actually maybe swap Hislop and Gyllenhaal arround.

The Men Who Stare At Goatse (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2010 10:53 (fifteen years ago)

hitchens vs godard for me, kind of by default

jean luc godard - used to like
mike tyson - not so much
aphex twin - never been fully keen on this dude
jonathan franzen - not read! shameful
mia - conflicted
ian hislop - no
kelis - legacy rnb singer iirc
jake gyllenhaal - seems nice enough
christopher hitchens - legernd
taylor swift - not knowingly heard

English: The Money Woman (history mayne), Friday, 28 May 2010 10:56 (fifteen years ago)

jean luc godard - totally ignorant of him
mike tyson - rapist
aphex twin - awesome
jonathan franzen - overrated in literary terms, not in this company as he's v enjoyable
mia - great music, awful persona
ian hislop - maybe
kelis - grebt
jake gyllenhaal - seems nice enough
christopher hitchens - lol Iraq
taylor swift - no interest whatsoever

one vote for Franzen cos he won my poll

Ismael Klata, Friday, 28 May 2010 11:03 (fifteen years ago)

Wd go to the pub with Aphex for an hour of wacky stunts and then retreat to the other bar with Ian Hislop where we can go "ok, that guy is a bit much, right?" and grouse abt all facets of British politics for a few hours, with me going home if he really is as Tory as everyone else says

(nah, have to vote Aphex for sheer impact on Where I Am Today - ok, What My Record Collection Is Today - and extended and concentrated bursts of awesomeness; enjoying a little more distance meaning I can enjoy the dude without feeling like I am also subscribing to all his weak imitators and offputting fan-nutter communities. though I did, at the time, and don't entirely recant)

atoms breaking heart (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:07 (fifteen years ago)

Could never, ever go to pub with Aphex. Not even for the weirdo fan hysteria but because I wouldn't trust myself to not spend the entire time going "can I lick you?" every 30 seconds "No, really, can I lick you, I want to see if you taste of gingerbread" and he calls the cops like two minutes later. :-( OK that is the very definition of weirdo fan hysteria I guess.

(Actually not true at all. I would do the same thing I always do when confronted with persons I really really idolise, i.e. sit there in silence glaring at them and occasionally snapping at them and contradicting them voiciferously only to silence myself forcibly until they are left with the distinct impression "I thought Kate was a fan, she acts like she really really doesn't like me!" not that this has ever happened to me before oh no never ever ever...)

Using an Aural Exciter in an Orgone Accumulator (Masonic Boom), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:19 (fifteen years ago)

Aphex would be awesome fun in the pub, Gyllenhaal and Franzen would probably be okay to bro down with as well. Would totally go drinking with Kelis and you know Hislop would have amazing gossip.

The Men Who Stare At Goatse (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:24 (fifteen years ago)

think hitchens and gyllenhaal wd have the best gossip (from my pov)... wkiw mia

English: The Money Woman (history mayne), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:28 (fifteen years ago)

jean luc godard - Never seen his movies, plus he's not Robert H. Goddard.
mike tyson - Good memories of Mike Tyson's punchout. Remember where I was the night he bit dude's ear off.
aphex twin - Mostly really good.
jonathan franzen - Hate novels about college professors who have affairs with students.
mia - Like her novelty songs.
ian hislop - Never heard of him
kelis - Only knew that one song.
jake gyllenhaal - His sister gets the first google result for a reason, plus he looks like a damned puppy dog these days.
christopher hitchens - Haven't experienced him much but he seems like a blowhard.
taylor swift - The next FLEETWOOD FUCKING MAC as far as I'm concerned.

I have, however, never seen Mr D.James shirtless, so we cannot compare. Alas. He seems like the type who might be a bit chubby and mantits would feature on the agenda. However, you know my worship of the experimental sound belly.

Using an Aural Exciter in an Orgone Accumulator (Masonic Boom), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

Hitch! The fuss around Hitch-22 is brightening my days at the mo. Will be standing in WH Smiths at lunch to read Eagleton's slag of it.

Runners up, for making things I've enjoyed - Godard > RDJ > Kelis.

Socially, Franzen I could manage book chat with, but I think I'd ask him something stupid (Possibilities i.'cmon you must The Corrections is a little bit overrated'; ii. 'Do many people get you mixed up with Lethem and/or Chabon?') and it would get awkward

woof, Friday, 28 May 2010 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

xp: Yes, but he looks like a buff spaniel.

kkvgz, Friday, 28 May 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

But if it's that awful horrible over-pecced Hollywood buffness that afflicted attractive men like, say, Hugh Jackman, then I'm not having it. There's nicely toned and then there's that "can't... put... his... arms... down..." look that male movies stars get when they acquire personal trainers which is SO not hott.

Using an Aural Exciter in an Orgone Accumulator (Masonic Boom), Friday, 28 May 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)
