Alright, I've been living in this godforsaken city for four days now. Anyone down with a NYC ILX meetup or something? I'd like to meet some people besides the slobbering panhandler on my block

geeta, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe we could hit a bar or something? I dunno, I'll call my good friends The Strokes and see what they're up to

geeta, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll go, but only if you bring the slobbering panhandler.

rosemary, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Geeta: welcome! Yes, I'd be up for an ILX meetup.

Douglas, Wednesday, 10 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Color me Stuck inside of Athens with the Belmont blues again.

J Blount, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, Geeta, welcome to the land of baked and frazzled maniacs! Other than your dear panhandler, there are the "educated poor"---currently, other folks like me. Care to share a cardboard box;>?

I've done 2 ILX meets within the past 2 weeks; always up for another. Mind you, we'd have to hurry.

Nichole Graham, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should all meet at the ja lounge on the corner of bleeker an 7th - its my friend jons bar - twell him james and dave from england sent you - and line me up a shot will you

born clippy, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta your idea is sweet-uh! I can't attend anything this weekend since I'll be away in D.C. where mes parents do reside. bornclippy's idea is superb though, I think. We need to build bridges with England. Bridges of alcohol.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you do one the first weekend in August, too, I'll come out of the alias closet . . .

felicity, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I couldn't come this weekend...

Ally, Thursday, 11 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can people do this upcoming weekend? It sounds like we have the potential for some serious delurkation! geeta you are the instigating potentate of the thing, can you do it? should we come up to HAARLEM??

Tracer Hand, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I mentioned this once before, but I AM COMING TO NYC. I will be around for the first week of October. Would anyone be interested in a meet then? All those names and no faces. (Wait, I have met Rosemary.) After a wedding at the weekend I am then planning on heading up to wander aimlessly around New England type tourist-y things.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ph34r Alang and his newly-blonded hair!!!

katie, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I AM COMING TO NYC. I will be around for the first week of October.

!! Is there any way you can make it up to Boston for a day or two around Terrastock? When exactly are you flying in? There's a tentative ILX meet-up planned for the Thursday right before Terrastock weekend.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*quick google* That would be the 10th? Sure I'm curently planning to fly into NYC on the 3rd or 4th, and taking a train up around the 8th. Blimey, that festival's a bit hardcore indie though! Bevis Frond, etc. My plans are so free-form right now, that any suggestions like that will help me sort myself out and do proper planning. must work out what to go see etc, must sort out international driving licence, tix... blah

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't bother with the license unless you're really planning on wandering the Arkham/Castle Rock-style areas of New England! Take the train, there's regular service between Boston and NYC. I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, but the rest of the Boston crew (Dan Perry, the newly transplanted to NYC Geeta, Chris, etc.) can give you plenty of tips and further advice on it all. You don't have to attend the fest itself if you'd rather not! And there'll probably be some sort of follow-up hanging around with Good People that whole weekend.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, you said you were already taking the train -- good job. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Be more than glad to help Alan. Let me know if you need any tips.

Chris, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan, that's months away! But I'll be up for a meet.

This weekend is not so good, unless we want to meet at Coney Island.

rosemary, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta, weigh in on yr prefs. (aside from 1st weekend in August i can do whichever)

Tracer Hand, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so i finally have internet access in my apartment, shock horror. i can't do the first weekend of august either, but any other time should be fine. how about next friday? or thursday? i can meet you dudes anywhere in the city

geeta, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE NY hates me. You probably wear those T-shirts that say "Welcome to New York. Now leave."

felicity, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

felicity, I don't hate you! I will most likely be around the first weekend of August, so drop me a line, okay?

rosemary, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

thanx for the thread revival and thanx for offers of help. i'm sure nearer the time i will be twisting your collective east coast US- ILE (usile? is that a word?) arms.

Alan T, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

first weekend in August = X-Press 2 OUTSIDE at PS1 and my friend Bryan's bday so that weekend is out for me too. felicity why is your window so small?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know you don't hate me. It's just that everyone is being so explicit about NOT wanting to do it the first weekend in August without suggesting an alternative. It's no big deal.

Tracer, I am coming in for the bar exam. There will be other times.

[thx rosemary -- I'll email you :)]

felicity, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(There were whispers about crashing NYLA...)

bnw, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Bridges of alcohol' ... I think one of those could reach me! 'What nationality are you?' 'I'm a drunkard.' 'That makes you a citizen of the world.' Sorry those lines are so bad, they're from Casablanca, but I think they're really funny because one night my mother rang me drunk and told me I had to 'get out there and be a citizen of the world' then a few weeks later I saw that bit of Casablanca.

maryann, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sometimes i wish i had the kind of mother that would call me drunk or even get drunk but my mom is cool so it's okay and um yeah anyway. i'm thinking of visiting nyc in the fall but we'll see if i actually motivate on this.

Ron, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So, is there going to be anything this week?

rosemary, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So Maura and I were gonna go check out John Darnielle's band this Friday at the Village Underground. Do any of you NYC peeps want to come with us?

geeta, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

do it! do it! (i alas cannot)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have heard John Darnielle's band and it R good! people who R into country / freaky storytelling / indie should go go go

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You should promote your own gig, dude.

bnw, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes bnw but i'm not in control of all aspects and am therefore slightly fearful. but since the cat's out of the bag... :) i'm DJing at 356 West 44th St, corner of 9th Ave, this Saturday, 11:30 - 4am. the place is called Red. it's a whopping 10 bucks - not my idea - so any hardy soul who makes it i wd be well-impressed with. thee mountain goats friday and tracer hand saturday. many stones to build an arch....

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"half an arch won't stand, clarice"

mark s, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i WANT to go but CANNOT so hmph. half an arch it must be for me.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(my excuse is that i'm rehearsing a play based on the premise behind the American sitcom "Herman's Head" haha where's MY head at)

Tracer Hand, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"premise behind Herman's Head" = "premise behind entire career of Virginia Woolf"

nabisco, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See you there. Both of John Darnielle's bands (cough, cough) are fantastic...

Douglas, Friday, 26 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

reportZ! arch part deux: my gig: uniform awfulness of set-up and support relieved no end by benevolent presence of 1) M Matos, Daddino and scifisoul 2) the French mob 3) a WIDE-open dancefloor that allowed for advanced techniques. crowd fave = "Born to Be Alive" in dark-horse shocker!!

Tracer hand, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Me: "Hey, my friend E. is DJing in your neighborhood tonight."
Friend: "That's nice. I'm not going, or anything."

nabisco, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

God damn it, Wild Turkey makes me forget stuff. I'm sorry I missed it.

Let's put some plans for this ILX NYC uber-meetup into effect. I'm good for any day except Aug 2-4, when I'll be in Boston.
