That sort of persistence is only to be admired.

i assume some mags are just spiking em tho: he hasn't had one in the lrb for ever-so long

i took against him a bit when he took sides publicly over some grisly bit of swp infighting in which someone had been expelled (he was still in the party and pro the expulsion: it was just expressed a bit stalinoid)

He's a prolific letter writer to everything. I don't know what he does in his spare time. He's a pro-beard man and always writes to defend beardies. He also doesn't like football so big dud.

He had a letter in the Grauniad during the World Cup saying that he thought anyone on "the left" who supported England was letting "the left" down. I replied to say that I disagreed passionately with him *now* although I would have agreed under J. Major and G. Taylor. My reply was not printed, but happily they ran several other letters disagreeing with Flett's imperial scale of defeatism and self- loathing.

He was on Woman's Hour this morning defending The Beard (concept of, general) beards (aesthetics of, specific), men with beards (right not to be discriminated against; does this happen?).

only as a feelings-saving pretext => kf is a prat, but let's say it's his beard that makes us think this not every other aspect of his personality
