Maybe just because the show so pre-dates the internet and the experience of a lot of ilxors. But I've been netflixing it lately and it's surprisingly good. Uneven, but with great moments.

doesn't predate me - in fact I was pushing 30 when it was on. absolutely hated it - every annoying about my generation - the Yuppies - personified.
I thought polly draper was sorta hot, however.

every annoying CLICHE about my gen...
the characters were so self-conscious, righteous & smug, esp. the married couple hope & michael. but I remember their names which says something.

I found Michael irritating at first but I'm 8 or 9 episodes in and I feel like his dark, bitter side is starting to come out, which I like. The show feels very "TV" at times but I can also feel it fighting the boundaries of its TV-ness at its better moments.

Christmas episode in first season is particularly good. Ending is a little contrived, but forgiveable.

Also I've heard those complaints about the show before, but I don't think the show itself is as smug as its characters. In fact I think it's somewhat critical of them.

It just occurred to me that this show is kind of like an adult counterpart to The Wonder Years. I don't know if you could go as far as to say that Michael and Melissa are Kevin and Winnie as adults, but it almost works.
