How many pluots does it take for anyone on ILX to take you seriously?

what if you crossed a pluot with a kiwi? pleewee?

dyao, Thursday, 17 June 2010 04:44 (fifteen years ago)

i dunno. "pluot" itself is such an awkward grammer mash-up, and yet it flows effortlessly. It is among my favorite words to enunciate. I trust that the geniuses of fruit genetics will find some other brilliant way to match up unlikely syllables for the next thing.

the one corey (Pillbox), Thursday, 17 June 2010 05:17 (fifteen years ago)

what the fuck is a pluot?

Tavarius Polk (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

ok, why would you ruin a good apricot like that?

Tavarius Polk (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

I heard the pluot was the ninth planned nut

dyao, Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:04 (fifteen years ago)

Chewing on all those little tiny seeds in the kiwi fruit is a joy.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:23 (fifteen years ago)

^^ so true! The kiwi also has a tang of its own (no other tang is quite the same).

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:29 (fifteen years ago)

I was so worried they would call the more apricotty plum+apricot blend – I was worried they would call it the apricum.

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:35 (fifteen years ago)

Actually, it is the kiwi that is the most testicular of fruits

the one corey (Pillbox), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:35 (fifteen years ago)

over the avocado?!

dyao, Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:35 (fifteen years ago)

Why is everyone calling them "pluots" when they're "plumcots"?

gr80 cab driver (Stevie D), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:36 (fifteen years ago)

Plumcot is
a) cuter
b) on the signs at Whole Foods

gr80 cab driver (Stevie D), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:37 (fifteen years ago)

shoprite says pluot iirc

dyao, Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:37 (fifteen years ago)

fuck a plumcot imo

the one corey (Pillbox), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:39 (fifteen years ago)

anyway, my main point is:

good fruits

  • kiwi
  • apricots
bad fruits

  • plums

ban grocery bagger (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 06:40 (fifteen years ago)

dude

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 07:30 (fifteen years ago)

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 07:30 (fifteen years ago)

we had plum trees in our back yard growing up dude. i loathe them so much.

ban grocery bagger (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 08:02 (fifteen years ago)

i do not loathe the fruit of any of the other trees we had, including apricots.

ban grocery bagger (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 08:03 (fifteen years ago)

i guess you had shitty plum trees in your yard my man

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 08:12 (fifteen years ago)

it's not the plums' fault, Rev.

there is such a thing!

it's 3/4 apricot 1/4 plum

delanie griffith (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 June 2010 12:44 (fifteen years ago)

Go buy a plum from Safeway, Rev. Well, wait a month or so until they're really in season.

Aerosol, Thursday, 17 June 2010 13:37 (fifteen years ago)

anyway, my main point is:

good fruits

* kiwi

bad fruits

* plums

That is completely the wrong way round.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Thursday, 17 June 2010 18:27 (fifteen years ago)

The first time I bought a pluot, it was because the sticker on it featured a magenta brachiosaurus.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Thursday, 17 June 2010 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

Pluots and plumcots are pretty much just plums, right? Plums putting on airs.

then u would be a damn fool

delanie griffith (s1ocki), Thursday, 17 June 2010 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

it doesnt even really make sense to talk about fruit in terms of "race" or "species"

Some plants love hybridizing! They work completely differently than animals when it comes to reproduction.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Thursday, 17 June 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

in other words, slocki otm.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Thursday, 17 June 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

we usually refer to fruit varieties or cultivars, not whole species, when talking about discrete kinds. and those are usually cloned versions of the exact same plant, reproduced millions of times.

ban grocery bagger (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 June 2010 21:57 (fifteen years ago)

what specifically is your problem with plums--the taste? the texture? the density? the sweetness?

max, Thursday, 17 June 2010 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
