Insert "but of course we will beat Algeria um sorry Slovenia" hilarity here

Yahia Trick Yahia (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 19 June 2010 09:11 (fifteen years ago)

This poll would've worked with half the options

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 19 June 2010 10:00 (fifteen years ago)

"There's only six votes in it. We can win this!"

90% of posts about the games during the games are pointless anyway

no they serve a fairly obvious immediate purpose, altho you aptly describe most england-related real talk

I'm at work and missing NK match so England blather is all I got. Feeling quite ashamed now as I'm one of those people moaning about constant England coverage during matches that don't involve them.

nah it's a fair point, but still an argument for separate threads (not something i was in favour of until now)

well this seems the logical place.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 13:37 (fourteen years ago)

so why not have a thread for em

It's funny how the story today is how Capello cancelled Terry's meeting, because today's Daily Record is reporting on what happened at it. 'Captain John Terry led the team at clear-the-air talks' apparently, at which 'furious stars lashed out' at the boss.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 21 June 2010 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

Hm, it can't have been 'captain Terry' now I think about it - but at least I can take comfort that my quoting is *still* more accurate than the Record's

Ismael Klata, Monday, 21 June 2010 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

captain terry has his little clear the air talk in front of a mic iirc

I keep missing these polls :(

I blame bookmarks - so many bookmarked threads = rarely scrolling down new answers. A football board would solve that.

RIP Onimo, about to be banned by mods because he asked the wrong questions

Capello confirms that Upson will start alongside Terry.

Another poor call.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

Dawson's not great but def. better than Upson

I am utterly and abjectly pissed off with this little lot (Tom D.), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I'm 50/50 on relative merits, but wasn't Capello going to be the England manager that picked players on form?

Because if so, Dawson should be starting for england coming into the WC.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

No let's not psychologically destroy him by putting him in the firing line for England's inevitable exit.

Vulvuzela (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

Dawson strikes me as too er.... too thick to let much get to him tbh? Tryin to be kind here but dude's not a worrier imo.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

The whole "picking on form" was never gonna happen though. I mean Gerrard's been terrible ALL season.

not-in-a-good-moment (pandemic), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

He even got over the Portsmouth slip to have a storming end-of-season, which was impressive.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah picking on form probably isn't advisable to the extent of breaking up first choice partnerships, but now that we're down to 5th choice centre halves there's not much justification for Dawson ahead of Upson

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

eh or the reverse, rather

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

Whether or not he is the "England manager that picks players on form" or not, remains to be seen if he is the "England manager that drops players who are out of form"

I am utterly and abjectly pissed off with this little lot (Tom D.), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

well that's forgiveable if the alternatives aren't there, but that's not really the case here.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

Capello did pick Upson ahead of Dawson for the squad so its no big surprise...

xyzzzz__, Monday, 21 June 2010 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

It was a surprise then tbh, so it's still a surprise to me.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

if we can bother to sub-divide this into levels of surprise then I'm on the surprise then not now camp...

xyzzzz__, Monday, 21 June 2010 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

surprised capello's not learned from his dumbass whittling of 30 down to 23

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Monday, 21 June 2010 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

Doesn't every country do something similar? Sounds reasonable to me..
