Non-Legoland Sinister Retirement Home Outing

I think some of you are meeting OOOooOooon next Saturday 20th. We can't make it on that day, so although she doesn't know it yet, we're hoping to meet up on Thursday 25th. We don't know where or what time or anything. We were hoping to go to Legoland, but it's sold out and besides it costs 18 quid. Will any of you be able to make it? I know many of you will be 'working' that day, so we could perhaps have a non-Ooon meet-up after she's gone home on Saturday 27th, providing you're not all sick of the sight of each other after the social whirlwind of recent weeks. The Thursday thing will be during the day because we have to get back to rural Wiltshire, etc. The same applies to Saturday, but should be less problematic. Please note: Big Dave is going to bring a Lego pirate lady with a big cleavage and lots of make-up. Despite this, no one is allowed to bunk off work unless they were going to anyway.

In short, who's up for Thursday? Who's up for Saturday?

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Let the arrangements commence!

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Unsure whether I'll be able to make Saturday. Definitely up for Thursday (assuming we're meaning meeting in London).

Will there be lego elephants? Lemurs? Meerkats?

Tim, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Saturday! Saturday! Me! Me!

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Sadly Thursday day is absolutely out for me - I can't get any time off work and we are supposed to be viewing the new building yar boo suXoR Millwank).

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(elefant)

mark s, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Erk - I didn't really know about Saturday. Well, I sort of did, in the sense that Tag and Elisabeth are coming down from Manchester that weekend and they're not coming for the good of their health. I thought I may've tempted them with tales of over-25 bars on Hanover Square and 'no trainers'.

So, I'm spending most of Sat 20th in Finsbury Park pushing buttons on an old reel-to-reel, and thence to birthday drinks somewhere in Islington.

But I think I'm up for Thursday. It's the only day this week I wasn't doing anything and I was kinda looking forward to doing those things I was saving for a day when I wasn't doing anything, but now it appears I'm doing something. Which is good.

Michael Jones, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, we'll meet in London if people want to meet in London (and they do), otherwise we were thinking of frogmarching Oon round some midway point like Reading. I don't think it makes much difference though.

Sarah, if Saturday *doesn't* happen, we'll get together some other time. We've st an October date for moving (back) to Blighty, a bit like the abortive Troops Out Of Ireland movement.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, Thursday 25th semi-settled. This Saturday (19th) was an Ooon plan, I don't know how advanced it is.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean 20th. I told you it was complicated.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right on Thursday then I reckon you should CERTAINLY have lunch someone in central London!!

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also - back to Blighty?! COR! All change eh!?

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a plan. Whether it happens or not is in the lap of the gods. Where is central London? I only know from the middle of a nuclear war target circa 1984.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

PS: Thanks for 'elefant'. At least we won't be stuck for something to do.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thursday will be a go-er if the job market continues in it's current vein, but can't afford to leave London for it unfortunately.

chris, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pooh. I will be one of those 'working' on Thursday 25th. I could make something in the evening in town, but that is of course no use for a daytime event. I would be free for a meet-up on Saturday 27th though & would love to come along.

David, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The trouble with evening is I don't know how we'd get home. It's a bugger, I know. I don't know if we'll be able to go to London *twice*, for financial and psychological reasons. It'll all come out in the wash.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wash?

Tim, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't worry, Tim, washing is optional.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Phew.

It does occur to me that we might be able to arrange a venue close to an appropriate railway station, where working souls might catch you in the early evening, giving you plenty of time to get back to sunny Wherever It Is. Might we not?

Tim, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes... if the appropriate railway station is Euston then consider a vote placed for the Head of Steam! I reckon I should be able to escape from work early (4ish) if it's between that and not meeting you.

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hello, i would lik eto be counted in on these plans, provided it doesn't involve the head of steam... i think tim's plan is otm if you're only doing thursday :)

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What is all this hatin' on the Head of Steam, eh??? I like it a lot! It has a selection of lovely ales, grebt train themed decor, vvv handy for Euston (and Kings X) and BAR BILLIARDS! So what if you need a code for the loos, it's not exactly DIFFICULT and at least this = they are tolerable!

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Life with Oon is already exciting. So far we've bought an Orange SIM card for her mobile phone (I shall send those of you who are interested her new number), and endured a 322 bus ride from Brixton to Xstl Palys *entirely in first gear* (no breaks or clutch or something).

She's gadding about London's Nuclear Ground Zero with a chum at this moment. She is also contactable at the usual e-mail address. I know Cambridge figures heavily in her plans for tomorrow, thereafter I'm not sure.

I'll make sure to mention Thursday.

Michael Jones, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hang about, I'm so caught up in Oonmania I've neglected to address the Oonless Saturday 27th plan. Yes, sez I. But isn't the same day as a certain housewarming? Can it all be combined?

Michael Jones, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh fuck yes, I have plans for the 27th! Oh FECKSTICKS. It seems to be that PJM can't do the Sat at all though... Mike, I'd like to have Oons number if you can pass it on?

Sarah, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But but but who IS Oon?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooon is a Princess.

Tim, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is both informative and unhelpful.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Marvellous.

Tim, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, a sinister person I presume!

jel --, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And a gambler.

And an Auntie

And the former chief of the Sinister Thai news desk, titillating the massive with tales of elephant orchestras & lady-boy boxers.

David, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone just throw up a link to her profile page on the Sinister site (I'm assuming she would have such a thing).

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Station: Paddington. Over to you, Captain Publog. The problem is once we get back to sunny wherever it is, we have to get from there to even sunnier where we are staying - without the use of a car! Unless it is a taxi. Unfortunately I am no longer able to relax if I don't know how to get home.

What housewarming? The Ovalteenies?

Ned, OOOOOoon is from Thailand, we know her from the infamous Sinister list. Some people have met her, but I haven't. In fact I haven't met many people from Sinister at all, despite being on it for five years. Hence the (subdued) excitement. I have met David Moore though. He gave me a Pinefox badge.

PJ Miller, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, the ovelteenies peter. gah in the paast two minutes i have been told i must go back to ox on the saturday on pain of DEATH for engagement party type thing (cheers for the notice, getting engaged people, bah), so can we pls do something on the thurs. This place looks delightful...

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, the Sinister list doesn't have profiles of its posters/listees. However you can snicker at comedy pictures of them here or seek out silly things they wrote in the archives

Oon is indeed a Princess, & a very sweet one at that. I know this as she spent a very enjoyable day with us Tuesday/Wednesday involving eating, shopping, sight-seeing, gig- going, more eating, watching B&STV, even more eating, watching South Park & maybe eating a little more.

David, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why did you wait for this until such time as I had left the capital?

N., Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, it's just sheer bloody-mindedness on my part.

Thursday still looks on the cards. I will post details here if it's up and running. If not, I've *handwritten* a list of e-mail addresses. If all goes according to plan, we'll meet up with OooOooon (and any other early birds) early on (but not that early) and then retire to the pub to meet the rest of you later on.

Perhaps we should go to the second closest pub to Paddington.

PJ Miller, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm as big a fan of Bob Crow as it's possible to be, but I do wish he'd delayed his industrial action until after Oon had left our city. I needn't have worried though - her natural calming influence soothed the fraying tempers aboard a packed number 8 bus at Victoria this afternoon. Says the Evening Standard.

We're all crazy-ape bonkers on all-fours for THURSDAY 25TH.

I hope a few of you can make Susannah's thing. Remember Happy Hour.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jonesey, that is possibly even more cryptic than your usual messages. wonder if i could/should have a half day on thursday...

CarsmileSteve, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that tonight Mike??? Or next Friday? I can't do tonight (trainers PLUS under 25 = no no) anyway.

Can we have a PJM plan summary?

Sarah, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're not going to London because the trains are crap (last one back to the Wild Wild West at a quarter to six or something) and the buses back from the train are even crapper, so that's that scuppered. Also it took us longer to get from Gatwick to Newbury than it used to tak eme to get from Tamworth to Glasgow, so I'm not that keen on trains at the moment.

We will revert to plan A and try to get OooOOoon to meet us half way somehwere like Reading if she's still up for it. Actually that's plan B, plan A was Legoland.

Sorry for any disappointment this might cause, but it seems daft to try and do it in even more of a hurry than it was going to be anyway. Further excuses are available on request.

Hey, I saw GINGER TIM get evicted from Big Brother.

PJ Miller, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

boo hiss, aw it's a shmae, i was looking forward to it too. then again if you are going to be permanently among us in a few months, no doubt we'll get sick of the sight of you ;)

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nadgers. Oh well I heard you smell anyway.

I met Oooooon on Sunday! It was grebt! She is very hard to please when buying bagZoR! We had some duck gyoza, it was the best thing evvah!

Sarah, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Etymology of "shmae"?

Whereabouts in Wilts. are you, Peter? (Trying to think of more scenic place than Reading)

David, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're not going to London because the trains are crap (last one back to the Wild Wild West at a quarter to six or something) and the buses back from the train are even crapper, so that's that scuppered.

Oh dear. I take it from this that you're staying somewhere *near* Newbury, which isn't served by any trains in the evening, and if you go just to Newbury (which does have services from Paddington deep into the gloom), you're stuck there - yes? How disappointing.

We will revert to plan A and try to get OooOOoon to meet us half way somehwere like Reading if she's still up for it. Actually that's plan B, plan A was Legoland.

Oon agrees to this in principle (though 'Hampton Court would be better', she says). You two can sort this out by e-mail and maybe some of the rest of us can make it too? Thing is, there's still quite a few London Sinister folk Oon hasn't met, and Thursday was going to be a chance for that to happen too. Oh well - this is partly my fault for not letting her out of the house until she'd seen all of 'Filthy, Rich and Catflap' on video.

Michael Jones, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shmae is like shame but worse...

does miller not being here proclude us from going to the pub anyway? i'd certainly like to meet oon still. also it can be a nice pub rather than one near paddington innit.

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oon is now en route to Scotland (via Mottingham); she'll have access to e-mail up there, so the whole Thursday Thang will come together like iron filings. Perhaps Oon-Miller summit in the Mid-West [pm], Oon-RestOfGang pow-wow in London [later pm]?

I do hope she remembered to look to the left out of the train after leaving Xstl Palys - the only way you can currently see our local dinosaurs.

Michael Jones, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Arsebiscuits, hopefully something will happen during the day on Thursday, if it's no too far away I may be able to manage it.

chris, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've managed to wangle thursday off (long story involving work alarm going off and being called in on fri night, leaving work at 22.50 and being hastled by a big nasty man on the way to meet friends) so we definitely need a plan.

Vicky, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've managed to wangle thursday off (long story involving work alarm going off and being called in on fri night, leaving work at 22.50 and being hastled by a big nasty man on the way to meet friends) so we definitely need a plan! I'm happy to get out of london during the day, and then carry on back in town for the evening...

Vicky, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We are in teeny-weeny Ramsbury, nearest station Hungerford, which was out of action last week because of leaves on the line or something. There is a late train from Paddington, but I don't relish the prospect of the mad axe murderer drunk express, plus we're stranded when we get back to Hungerford, which we are anyway unless we get back at about 5 o'clock or something daft. Hence crapness. Bah! Shmae is what happens when suddenly faced with a foreign keyboard. Reading isn't much better really, just means we'd be able to have, what, an hour more of togetherness. To be honest I'm only suggesting it because OoooOoooon has come a long way and might sulk all the way back if we don't manage to see her. I'm sure I'll see the rest of you one fine day. Of course you should all give OOoooon a rousing send- off anyway.

Sorry about.

PJ MIller, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so....... are you coming to London at all Mr Miller? and what is going on on Thursday? There is confusion in SW2! and E17 for that matter. Heeeellllppppppp. It would be lovely to see you all on Thursday I nmust admit.

Chris at Miss Vicky's, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Ooon is the cutest ickle thing! While here, we bunked her in an extra shoebox, she's that ickle. Although she took exception when I wouldn't let her carry any heavy bags and I STILL have the lovely sexxxy top she sent me later on.

xoxoxo all for Oon!

Pyth, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris, I'm waiting for OooOooon contact at the moment, so I don't know what's happening on Thursday. I suppose Reading is a bit daft though. We managed to get to Swindon on the bus. I can only refer back to that wash business above which so alarmed Tim.

I have seen Led Zep on the telly.

PJ MIller, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Possible Solution:

National Express NX402 leaves Hungerford 08.55 arrives London Victoria 11.15

National Express NX402 leaves London 18.00 arrives Hungerford 20.05

Wave arms up and down shouting 'TAXI!' at bemused cattle farmers.

Hardly ideal, in that it rules out the workers, but better than nothing. I assume the coach wouldn't be sold out. Is there anything to do around Victoria coach station? Would anyone be keen on this? Oooon is still in Edinburgh, I bet Keith's taken her to the military tattoo or something, but she seemed pretty open to suggestions.

Let me know if this possible solution sounds good enough, either here or pjmiller@wanadoo.es

PJ Miller, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sounds indeed like a plan, not sure how many non-workers there are around Thursday but I can think of a few who'd love to take you places in town, plus it's easy for me to get to Victoria to meet you as it's on my line etc etc. Now we just need to see who else is about and then we can figure out where to go, possibly arranging somewhere handy where workers can skip out to in their lunch-breaks.

I'll mail you a couple of mobile numbers.

Chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oon left this website open on my laptop, and I just saw this page: it's really nice to see all these names again. I can report from Edinburghthat Keith has just taken Oon and Pookie off "into town" in one of his many striped topz. Oon said something about wanting to go to hear some house music and Keith gave that "aye, you'll be lucky" look. Peter, sorry about the gently obscene text message you might have just received, I assure you that the contents were all Pookie's fault, and the latin contained therein will be something Oon will quiz you about when she sees you ("I know that word! what is the 'c' word...?").

She's leaving here on a plane at 4pm or something, for whoever's meeting her the other end: I expect David M will have arranged something shipshape and military. I'll probably be seeing her just before she goes if anyone wants me to pass any secret messages on. I'm incredibly jealous of your legoland or whatever plans: we in Scotland shall be making up with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, blueberry pancakes and lusty farmhands.

honey, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll probably be seeing her just before she goes if anyone wants me to pass any secret messages on.

Tell her to proceed directly from Stansted Airport to South London, do not pass Four Seasons in Bayswater, do not collect 2000 calories. We've bought the hottest chillies known to Safeway, and Wednesday night is SPICE NIGHT chez Jerry-Bones.

Hello Paul! Hello Linda!

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hello honey also :)

yay thursday afternoon a go-go, also you leaving early means i can get home in time for the OPENING CEREMONY of the commonwealth games, mmmmmmmm, opening ceremony...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would also like to pass on my sweet love and devotion to Oon, and my apologies for me and the wife chickening out of the Big London Meeting.

I would also like to know why Peter Miller is in Ramsbury. I spent 9 years of my life in the next village and I can't think why anyone would want to go there.

Tag, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just booked a couple of hours off on Thurs so can make Victoria Coach Station hurrah. There's that *terrible* boozer right in the coach station which was so beloved of our travelling Scottish contingent back in the day (it was apparently easy to fall off the bus and into the pub). Rat & Parrot? Something like that. Can someone advise? The only decent pubs I know in the area are tucked away and tiny.

Tim, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh bladdy hell, this is a difficult one, there's no way I can get any time off on Thurs, but I can take a hem-hem LONG LUNCH. I'm going to be at a dumb meeting thing @ Page Street so Victoria is within 10 or so mins walking distance (coach station probably more like 15). I don't know pubs round the coach station though... no idea

Sarah, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem! ...no idea really. What about some of the ones on Palace Street...? Although they are all going the opposite way from the coach station. Toughie!

Sarah, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Due to a technical hitch, the London By Bus idea has also been scuppered. Sorry sorry sorry. I'm going to run and hide now. Tim, I hope you can unbook your couple of hours off or make good use of them. The latest idea involves cycling to Hungerford on matching his'n'hers pushbikes, so I'm definitely keeping my trap shut from now on.

My darling wife has just read OOon's mobile message out from the top of the stairs (it's her mobile, I haven't got one). She also wants to know why you all live in London.

Which village, Tag? Aldbourne? I hear there's some rivalry with that lot, so I'm going to cycle over and punch their lights out.

Apologies once again, I don't deserve such nice e-chums.

PJ Miller, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will spend the two hours making an effigy of PJM to keep us all company. Will someone bring pins?

Tim, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I've got the day off, and I'm looking forward to having a lie in so I'm not going to cancel it. Who else is around during the day and fancies a day out in town? If the weather's nice there are endless lovely places to walk past while going from pub to pub.

Are there still plans for you coming to London on sat? I'm too lazy to read through the thread again.

Vicky, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fine, I will have to drag co-workers to a pub instead. I think we will need it after the horror of our 'investing in people' awayday... yes, an awayday in the BASEMENT of our other office, I feel well and truly invested in - NOT.

Sarah, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my kidneys ache for a week-day pub crawl. Not sure what good it'll do for my cold but hmm, it would be nice. So.... who is about then?

chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

aha, it all makes sense now, miller just wants to make sure he is at home to listen to peel on thursday...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eep, forgot about that one.

chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so that'll be no-one around tomorrow then? grr.

chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, Peter, I did live in Aldbourne. All I remember of inter-village rivalry was some story about Aldbourners thinking the moon had fallen into the local pond and trying to rake out its reflection. Doubtless this rumour was put about by Ramsburyites, although I could well believe it to be true. These places seem to be full of people with the same surname.

Are you there to translate combine harvester manuals?

Tag, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, come on - alternative pub plan. Someone think of one. Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street?

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And don't forget to stop in tonight to listen to Linda Thompson on Radio 2, live on er, sorry, don't know how to make this go into tiny whisper font, Mike Harding's programme, 8-9 pm.

David, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Har har let's all laugh at Harding fan Mooro.

Sorry Mooro.

Tim, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Big assumption, Big Daddy. I didn't say I liked the er, gentleman, only the lady appearing on his programme, who has a respectable pedigree.

David, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh if I thought you were really a Hardingophile I would have kept quiet.

Thuzzday: if you lot are in ver Cheese then I'll nip along for a while but (i) I have been disallowed from boozing by my dentist who has left a great big hole in my head and (ii) I have other things to do that evening, unrelated to going out.

Tim, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There seems to be a huge medical CONSPIRACY to stop Tim Hopkins drinking.

N., Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

FAILED conspiracy. Professor P!O!Pkins was observed last Friday night guzzling his way through the cocktail menu at the Loop Bar. (But they *were* tasty, & more-ish.) He tells me that he likes to get "dancing drunk" now.

David, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right: I'm going to be in the Cheese on Fleet Street from 6pm onwards tomorrow (Thu 25th) if anyone wants to join me. I shall probably be downstairs nervously guarding a table from menacing financial types.

Pam will be along around 6:45 and we're hoping to see Oon (after her crazy dash around the Home Counties) after 8. We'll be buggering off before 10:30 mind, cos those last few 63s terminate at the Forest Hill Tavern in Honor Oak. And no-one wants to be stranded there. It's probably a bit like Hungerford.

Plain People of London-Sinister: this is your last chance to meet Oon if you haven't already done so. And it's a nice pub.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

k-blimey, what a faff... ok so tonite we have:
a. commonwealth games opening ceremony
b. belle and sebastian, on the ray-di-oh, playing songs for etcetc
c. PUB

choices, choices. I'll certainly pop along for one though :)

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cor I've made other plans now, luckily I saw Oon on the weekend, might pop over late doors if you lot are still about but seems like we might just miss you - aw well! Pass on my love to Oon!

Obviously I missed the posts after mine, and so we went for a picnic tea in Richmond park and watched the planes fly into Heathrow as the skies darkened. Hope you guys had fun, we're staying in now to erm, no, not listen to Radio 1, no sir, not us.

I expect nothing less than a full report from last night.

As first person there, i think i can pretty comprehensively Report Back, although i will need someone to fill in the bits after i left :)

So, there was me, the jerry-boneses, tim hopkins (retired early due to tooth extraction pain), OoooOoon, Andy Dean, Beth, Marianna, Stevie T, David "stankin cooter" Hewitt (no relation), DMC UK, Pam MC UK, Liz Daplyn, OoooOoon's friend whos name i can't remember, and i think that's it. much fun was had and demands for everyone to visit thailand were made, as well as requests for more frequent thai elephant news. The spirit of Miller hung heavy over the evening, as we wondered, not for the first time, whether he actually does exist, or is merely the imaginings of a 20 year old canadian...

It wasn't so much the pain of the gaping blood-filled cavity in my mouth which caused me to retire early, it was the pain of watching that lot sucking down fine ales when I couldn't. Curse you all.

hello everyone, david passed this thing to me, still not quite understand what this is. but seems i can send message to a lot of people i want to send, so here we are... firstly, please be advised that i've come home this morning safely and timely too. didn't miss the flight despite all the horror with that oil spilling thing. not many people have seen me run, but yesterday at Heathrow i suddenly became very atheletic, because attempting to catch the plane. all those roast ducks i've been eating did the trick i suppose (supply of energy). anyway, the flight turned out to be an hour delay. bloody bugger. AND i even went to school too. even if i was napping mostly but i was attending the class, as planned. all because of the wonderful roast duck : ) many many thanks to everyone who came out to see me over the last two weeks. it's been a big pleasure to see you all. Mike&Pam, thank you again (and again) for looking after me so well. if i'm god i'll make you the mayor of london (if you like), because you're so good at looking after people. is there a limit how long this message can be? i should be doing homework anyway. hugs, oon xx

I've only just dared to look at this, I was expecting to be S!A!V!A!G! E!D! but seem to have gotten off lightly, apart from the strange tingling sensation caused by Tim's pricks.

That story about the moon falling into the pond in Aldbourne sounds worthy of 'Basque Legends' which starts with a woman in 1969 claiming that it's impossible for a man to go to the moon, he'd fall off, only a fly could go to the moon. I wonder if anyone in Aldbourne will remember wee Robbie McTaggart? Ramsbury's very nice, people keep speaking to us.

We had a nice couple of hours with OoOOoOOoooon. You should have seen how quickly she spotted Reading casino!

Anyway, sorry once again for my failure to meet up with you all. Call me a sentimental old fool, but I think I'd really like to meet up with you all on your own respective territories, ie Preston, Stevenage, Stoke, Chesterfield, Sidmouth, that kind of thing. I am the new Dave Gorman. Watch this space.
