Living on the main road through a tourist town means topless fat hairy dads in cars on holiday. NO NO NO.

Graham, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And topless boythugs wandering the street asking for fags. GRRR

Graham, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

May I recommend the CHARLES ATLAS course Graham, you clearly have 'issues'.

Tom, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

depends who the MANG is whether i want to see them topless or not PHHWOAR KNOWORRIMSAYING but *ahem* yes, the average lager lout slowly roasting red in the sun is far from a pretty sight.

katie, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Speak for yourself Tom.

Graham, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

extremly sweety topless guys, who 'slime' you when they brush past you in a crowded club. Very impolite ! keep your sweet to yourself

nalini, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's one thing at a safe distance e.g. on a building site but in a busy urban environment e.g. on the tube / walking down a busy street where the vile hairy sweaty flesh may come into contact with innocent passers by / in a pub it is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. And wear some suntan lotion you bunch of morons, I saw too many bright red sunburnt idiots on the tube this morning.

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have just remembered this very out of it bloke in the Dogstar a while back who kept on taking his t-shirt off despite numerous warnings from the bouncers. He really was quite revolting so we were very glad when he got chucked out. And he had both nipples pierced which is a major turn off.

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It doesn't really bother me. I mean this may be because I see worse in the mirror when I clean my teeth in the morning but I can't get too wound up about it. On the other hand with the toplessness so often comes the TIGHT SHORTS - viz. time-travelling nazi hikers (though they kept their shirts on).

Emma is right though - NOT in a pub. No way.

Tom, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is dropping your jeans, doing lots of poppers, and laughing like a drain acceptable behaviour? for this was what i was watching in the World's End last weekend. middle of the afternoon. Camden is full of cockfarmers it would appear.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

in the World's End

Alan this provides a crucial clue to your plight.

Tom, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alang's plight = he is in the Earth's anus. (I initially wrote "his is in the Earth's anus", which is far funnier.)

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan have you ever been there? That is the most accurate description I have ever read.

Tom, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

indeed. it was also "the quiet bit". no more

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Camden is full of cockfarmers

I'm disturbed that you hadn't noticed this before, Mr T.

RickyT, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd say dud, only coz i'm pasty and weedy like. but then I view public semi-nudity in the same way I view litter. help I'm turning Victorian!

jel --, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and the fucking Monarch pissed me off royally last week too. grrr.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan has the power of accurate description, he does.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan have you ever been there? That is the most accurate description I have ever read.

I have not, but I'm glad that my propensity for extraordinarily juvenile humor has had a practical payoff in this case.

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

alan, when/why were you in the monarch?

gareth, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Rapture - Xfm live thingy? maybe?

DJ Martian, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Alan means when he got his OBE.

jel --, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

?? Yes Rapture -- and the Polyphonic Spree. guest list blag... queue... not on list for first band (Polyphonic Spree)... come back at 9.30... queue again... CHARGED! for guest list admittance. WTF?! discover just missed Rapture... i would have just turned around when they wanted to charge us, but my friend was so wound up she stumped up my cash, and then almost tore the place apart when discoved had missed band. Grrr. GRRRRR and DOUBLE GRRRR

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan, at least you can hear The Rapture recorded at the Monarch, on John Kennedy show sometime this week.

[The Rapture single Olio has been delayed to July 29th, the one that sounds like Robert Smith has been dragged into the studio to perform or else !]

DJ Martian, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Note to self: TRACK DOWN THE RAPTURE.

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hadn't you been paying attention, young Daniel? The Rapture are totally up your alley. :-) Tom was talking/asking about them on ILM. I need to find more of their stuff myself, the bits I've encountered are worthy -- something like they started out as a generic emo band but then suddenly got incredibly good and danceable?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There will be a length Rapture album in the Autumn. In the UK it will be released on The Output Label. Last year The Rapture released a mini album on the Sub Pop label.

There will be a feature on The Rapture in this week's NME on sale tomorrow in London.

DJ Martian, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Outside, I am willing to put up with the horrible looking ones for the occasional beautiful and sexy one. Indoors, pubs and trains and stuff, it's unacceptable. Except for the beautiful and sexy ones, obv.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, a total dud from me, esp the sweatiness issue. (=k-yack) However, this saturday, flying Fay Cycles phlag at "company of cyclists" try-out show at Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, I saw the shox0r!|\|g sight ov SWEATY MAN IN THONG riding bicycle. He had pink fluffy balls attached to the front of said thong as well. Topless fat hairy dad in car pales in comparison w/thiz. (haha literally, as he was well tanned, not pasty or lobster-red)

Norman Phay, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Christian Bale in Reign of Fire? Classic. Anyone else? DUD.

Nicole, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to see Reign of Fire tonight!!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
oh no! summer is coming! ph34r walking through tomkins square park and having to be subjected to THE FLESH!

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:45 (twenty-three years ago)

One of my pals said it best. Paraphrasing: There's good naked and bad naked. Girls provide all of the good naked in the world. Five nines of the bad naked is thanks to guys.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 27 April 2003 07:50 (twenty-three years ago)

if girls = all of the good
how can 4/9 of guys = not bad

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

100% of good naked - due to females
males responsible for 5/9 of bad naked, females responsible for 4/9
(two separate piecharts)

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:01 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and topless men - dud, obv.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:02 (twenty-three years ago)

aha this was your theory then blount?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

oh god no, I've seen enough Mapplethorpe and Bruce Weber posters to know some man nakedness can be good in theory.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 27 April 2003 09:09 (twenty-three years ago)

No, it's not. Men are gross.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Millar there are girls who provide bad naked too. Trust me on this.

hstencil, Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Men should only be in public with their shirts off if they are VERY VERY close to sand and the sea. Who wants to be mistaken for a labourer, anyway??

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I love that people (besides Blount) are so entranced by Millar's theory that they've lost the ability to do math. All theories should be that powerful.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 27 April 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

gershy, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

haha I was using telecom jargon up there, whoops. "five nines" = 99.999, as a percentage

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 04:29 (seventeen years ago)

Jim Morrison has made male toplessness revolting!

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

Who knew?

kenan, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

I am going to Provincetown on Saturday and expect I'll see a lot of topless men out and about.

ENBB, Thursday, 29 May 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

Chests that I like make me want to put my head on them and fall asleep there, so probably prefer a layer of shirt for that instead of waking up with a sweaty-sticky cheek and ear.
