I guess this should refer to the place you were *immediately* before, and not, say, your hometown or somewhere you lived a long time ago and have nostalgic fondness for...also I'm going to refer to the change of building type (from an apartment to a house) because really it's the biggest difference.

Anyway, here:

1. Backyard.
2. QUIET. Can barely hear traffic or sirens, ever.
3. Nice walkable parks very close.
4. Lake is much closer.
5. Wildlife. Rabbits live under our deck, cardinals have nests in our trees.
6. Neighbourhood kids playing are fun to listen to.
9. Traffic is not an issue. Rush hour is about 10 minutes long.
8. Dishwasher - changed my life.
9. Laundry is one floor away from the hamper, is not shared, and does not require exact change.
10. Can be out in the country in 10 minutes.

franny glass, Friday, 16 July 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

This is kind of difficult given that my current place isn't far from my last place and so big things like location/neighbourhood don't matter much.

1. Awesome illuminated back garden
2. Absentee landlord who never interferes
3. Part of gorgeous private estate
4. Dishwasher
5. Doesn't get intolerably hot whenever the sun comes out
6. Five minutes from the park
7. Built by actually renowned architect
8. Two cats that hang out in our garden
9. Huge windows
10. Big fuck-off telly

Matt DC, Friday, 16 July 2010 16:14 (fifteen years ago)

1. A much more central location -- almost everywhere I go is 15 minutes or less away, including work, making the shortest commute I've had in 5 years.
2. Much warmer environment, not so 'removed' from the city
3. Less $$ spent on tolls (big winner here)
4. My new roommate completely stays out of my hair.
5. Much more inviting complex -- with community areas and places to gather.
6. Driving habits are less annoying.
7. Convenience store on my property within easy walking distance -- great for when I run out of toothpaste or need a snack.
8. Condo has a great refrigerator, my last roommate had the shittiest fridge alive which fit hardly anything, we fought for space frequently.
9. Front-loading dryer -- so much easier for someone my height, as it is level with me.
10.NO FLOODING

"The Dad" from Gay Dad (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 17 July 2010 01:34 (fifteen years ago)

oh man this is soooo my thread; we just moved into a place that is 100000x cooler than our last place:
1. duplex, but no upstairs/downstairs neighbours to be annoyed by
2. garage - now ytth can keep all his bike/outdoorsy crap out of the house!!
3. a WHOLE DANG ROOM for our small press workshop
4. niiiiiice interior - no more dingy walls and stuff
5. our own laundry!!!!! hi five to get_bent
6. insect screens!
7. fridge is IN THE KITCHEN and not the other side of the house
8. huge living area - finally have a dining room table
9. bath
10. backyard
bonus: the kitchen has these totally trivial things that i adore - one of those pull-out boards under the counter and triple-tiered lazy susans in 3 corner cupboards; cheap rent; cooler weather; closer to train; nice neighbourhood

basically there is nothing i miss about our old place. at all.
