Wtf is "confit de canard"?

Tuomas, Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

Lady, if you have to ask...

Grisly Addams (WmC), Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

Also, meat vs. meat is pretty difficult for a vegetarian... I guess I'll go with shrimp, at least they got the chance to roam free.

Tuomas, Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

Does someone want to fund me so I can try things like confit, fondue, etc, and make an informed vote that is otherwise outside my immediate budget?

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Saturday, 24 July 2010 22:53 (fifteen years ago)

Confit, bananas, shrimp, limes

coz you can't make a G'n'T with waffles, and hey bananas are really good for you! also shrimp can be heavenly and duck confit sounds rly decadent kthxbi

Limes got the only citrus spot in this thing because they won the citrus poll.

Duck Confit, Bananas, Sausage, Waffles

Confit de canard is going to be completely destroyed in this poll, but seriously it is the absolute best thing

Sushi, Tacos, Sausage, Limes

sushi is better than almost anything, tacos are tacos, good sausage is unstoppable and shrimp can fucking blow me because they are garbage, limes because i could not eat without having the chance to put just a little lime juice on stuff sometimes

wtf at duck comfit? Why is this even in a poll? Does anyone actually eat this? Pretzels were excluded at the expense of duck comfit?

Confit (by a smidgeon), bananas, shrimp (assuming this includes actually tasty shrimps like good old brown shrimp)

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

And limes, I guess because I couldn't care less.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

have any of the bananas voters actually eaten a good taco?

sarahel, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:17 (fifteen years ago)

bananas v tacos is hard. life is so hard, you guys.

horseshoe, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

have any of the bananas voters actually eaten a good taco?

Yeah, but again I gotta go for versatility - losing one dish vs. losing the basic ingredient for many great dishes (plus it's tasty as such), it was easy to choose bananas.

Tuomas, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

Brown bananas > tacos > green bananas

WOOD! GOBLINS! (NickB), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:21 (fifteen years ago)

Tacos are great if you like SALMONELLA.

Something you surprisingly don't get with Bananas.

"The Dad" from Gay Dad (King Boy Pato), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

Custard bananas better than any of those. And bananas and custard (with a little bit of golden syrup) ftw.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:23 (fifteen years ago)

I don't understand what's going on here at all. What do you think... care, or skip it?

kenan, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:23 (fifteen years ago)

I had fresh shrimp for the first time about two years ago... It is such a revelation compared to frozen bland jelly shrimp

sausage v. shrimp is tough tough tough tough tough tough tough

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

I mean the shrimp just tastes like bland gelatin. real fresh shrimp needs no seasoning

You’re going off of her word that the farmer’s wife is the farmer’s wife? (dyao), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

sausage can be VERY gross, but a shrimp is a shrimp

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna blow your minds, there's a shrimp dish where the shrimp are fried in preserved duck egg yolk

You’re going off of her word that the farmer’s wife is the farmer’s wife? (dyao), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

I voted bananas over tacos because I already voted burritos over berries. Burritos are superior to tacos just as bananas are superior to berries.

Confit de Canard vs. Sushi -- confit's great, I even made my own, but not EVEN a choice. Sushi.

Tacos vs. Bananas -- I actually don't eat bananas except in the form of banana bread, so tacos.

Sausage vs. Shrimp -- tough one. I eat more than my share of both, but ultimately I love shrimp more.

Waffles vs. Limes -- considering that I buy limes by the 3# bag, not a tough choice.

Grisly Addams (WmC), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:40 (fifteen years ago)

Sushi, Tacos, Sausage, Waffles, though I love duck, and would probably love duck confit if I ever had it. (Maybe I have, and just though of it as duck, who knows.) Definitely love sushi, and ate it all the time in New York, though, so that gets the nod. Waffles would have only butter and cinnamon, fwiw, no syrup or sugar, gross. Sausage preferably the chicken or turkey kind these days (hey, I'm health conscious), green onion or garlic flavor.

xhuxk, Sunday, 25 July 2010 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

Oh shit, didn't see shrimp up there! So I was wrong: Voting Sushi, Tacos, Shrimp, Waffles instead. (Eat sausage more, but like shrimp more, and eat it enough.)

xhuxk, Sunday, 25 July 2010 00:22 (fifteen years ago)

sushi tacos shrimp limes

fuckit - duck confit, tacos, sausages, waffles

balls, Sunday, 25 July 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

Confit, tacos, sausage, limes.

(note to self: confit and sausage taco with lime would be amazing)

CONFIT > sushi: My only tactical vote. The very best sushi I've had is better than the very best confit de canard I've had, but confit de canard is like the compulsory small-conference invite to this tournament and it deserves a good showing against the Duke that is sushi, because it's really remarkable and too many of you have never had it.

TACOS > bananas: Surely bananas are high on the fruit list mostly for their convenience? They are vaguely fruity starch. Bananas are to fruit as chicken is to meat. I eat a lot of bananas and chicken, but I voted against both because you can't take them seriously against more interesting competition.

LIME > waffles: Limes taste like nothing else on earth. A waffle is a pancake putting on airs.

garlic leaves: underrated vegetable

mouffetard (acoleuthic), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

i like duck but i'd be fronting if i voted for it. sushi.

i eat a banana everyday but tacos are like a whole world.

deciding this one quickly cos it's really hard: shrimp

i don't really like waffles, and the important drinking applications of the lime need to be considered on top of its food value.

goole, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

but iatee, think of the incredible number of things that become 90% less delicious absent garlic. salsa, tomato sauce, aoli, roast lamb, hummus, guac, curry dishes, greek anythying, italian anything, thai anything, mexican anything, etc.

a CRASBO is a "criminally related" ASBO (contenderizer), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not saying it doesn't have its merits! just that it's absolutely less of a meal than anything listed.

having garlic in this poll would be unfair, because I'd have to vote for it

a CRASBO is a "criminally related" ASBO (contenderizer), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

I agree I just don't think that 'garlic' vs. 'steak' makes much sense but then again neither does 'peanut butter' vs. 'steak' so,

iatee, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

SABB was another bracket, i guess, but it's still key. in working this stuff out, i'm thinking as much w my kitchen as i am with my plate.

a CRASBO is a "criminally related" ASBO (contenderizer), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

xp - wtf - there are plenty of things that are equally less of a meal than "garlic" - like limes?

sarahel, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

and then there's 'curry' where nobody knows wtf they're actually voting for, but it's probably something indian

iatee, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

ya I think limes are out of place too

iatee, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

i'm sorry but limes and garlic are pretty much equal in the "not a meal, but an integral ingredient to deliciousness"

sarahel, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

I agree!

iatee, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

that's true tbh - also yeah roast garlic is pure joy - limes perhaps MORE edible on their own, though - garlic's brilliance comes when it is involved in a large recipe

like cmon you all take the lime slice out of your gin and tonic, and then eat the fruity bit - you all do
