oysters vs. cheesecake should be a good separator for disgusting savages

never had foie gras, but i still feel okay voting hummus. i go through a lot of hummus tbh.

Foie Gras, Hamburgers, Chocolate, Oysters.

Foie Gras because I am a disgusting, morally-repugnant horrible savage (but actually coz it's nice and taramasalata >>> houmous)
Hamburgers because pistachios are nice but not overwhelmingly so and a good burger can be great
Chocolate because it covers a huge area of glorious culinary enjoyment

and

Oysters because I fucking absolutely goddamn LOVE oysters

p.s. thinking about the ethical procedures behind all four of my choices in this poll = I am going to Hell

Anti-Suggest Ban Order (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Foie gras is one of the most savagely produced foods ever! Hamburgers vs. pistachios was hard, I occasionally like a good veggie burger, but pistachios are always reliable if kinda boring.

Hummus, Hamburgers, Pad Thai, Cheesecake

love hummus and foie gras is pretty good honestly but it freaks me out, this one NEARLY KILLED ME, my lack of sweet tooth is starting to show and pad thai is great, oysters are the worst thing in the world

I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SAVED CHALK (jjjusten), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

I would be happy with cheesecake winning the entire tournament.

Couldn't live in a world without fois gras, once got slagged on here for suggesting hamburgers were anything other than straightforward ground beef patties so pistachios I guess, pad thai too one trick to beat the variety of the world's chocolate (but no vomit tasting American chocolate like Hershey's please) and baked cheesecake squeaks past oysters but if we start including non-baked then it loses a point for every one that's ever been eaten.

Hummus, Pistachios, Pad Thai, Cheesecake (don't even like cheesecake much, but also not a huge oyster fan)

I am glad I am not the only woman voting against chocolate.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:13 (fifteen years ago)

chocolate v pad thai is legit difficult for me

horseshoe, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

it's an intense undertaking.

Yeah, I only eat cheesecake about once every two months or so, but there is absolutely NO variation of cheesecake that is bad. None. Chocolate. Regular. Caramel. Whatever. If it's topped with cream or fruit or chocolate, all the better. In fact, I imagine you could mix and match any standardized cheesecake flavor/topping combination and I'd still devour it.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

The Jell-O Instant cheesecake from a box is terrible.

Warum habt Ihr mich totgefüttert? (Abbott), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:19 (fifteen years ago)

No, I even love the Jell-O Instant version (it's like how Taco Bell and Mexican cuisine are similar but not to be confused, yet both delicious).

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:23 (fifteen years ago)

Foie Gras v Hummus was slightly tough but only cos I get less chance to eat Foie Gras. If I had the two in front of me right now I know which one I'd be devouring so SUCK ON IT HIPPIES

a bit too much dessert on second thought

Anti-Suggest Ban Order (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

(I'm not a massive dessert man, usually, but perversely I do have a huge sweet tooth)

Anti-Suggest Ban Order (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

My default is always gonna be savoury over sweet but chocolate and cheesecake can be awesomely not too sweet plus sometimes they just hit that spot

flashing drill + penis fan (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

yeah - which is why I at first thought it might work - possibly overkill on them BOTH being there though - although that said if the cheesecake is served as dessert and then en route to the chair someone gives him a bar of dark chocolate, that'd be pretty cool

Anti-Suggest Ban Order (acoleuthic), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:45 (fifteen years ago)

Foie Gras vs. Hummus -- I've had foie gras once -- a fairly large piece, seared and served on a Kobe sirloin steak. That once is enough to get it the vote over hummus, which I like just fine.

Hamburgers vs. Pistachios -- my totem animal is a hamburger.

Chocolate vs. Pad Thai -- neither of these is particularly interesting to me. Chocolate, for its potential.

Oysters vs. Cheesecake. Tough, tough choice. I've only recently (within the last 5 years) come around to the joy of ersters. I think I will ponder this one for a couple of days before I actually vote.

Grisly Addams (WmC), Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

oysters are nature's candy. chessecake, even when it's good, is kind of gross

call all destroyer, Saturday, 24 July 2010 23:48 (fifteen years ago)

Hummus, Hamburgers, Pad Thai, Oysters, though I don't think I've ever actually eaten pad thai, weirdly enough. Sounds potentially interesting. (More interesting than chocolate, at least.)

I dunno, I used to get Thai food pretty often -- Just ordered something else, I guess? (Or who know, maybe I have eaten it, and it just didn't leave much of an impression. If so, it was a long time ago.)

horseshoe, Sunday, 25 July 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)

Foie Gras, Hamburgers, Chocolate, Cheesecake

FOIE GRAS > hummus: Foie gras really might be the best-tasting food in all creation and it's as simple as that.

CHOCOLATE > pad thai: Tough one for me, but there are other Thai noodle dishes I like as much or more. If it were candy bars vs. pad thai, totally pad thai, but then I think of pain au chocolat, hot fudge sundae, hot chocolate and get confused, and then Jaq's invocation of mole puts the brown bean over the top.

CHEESECAKE > oysters: I would put shrimp and scallops over cheesecake easy, maybe even clams if I'm in that mood, but oyster is my least favorite bivalve. Maybe partly because of that New Years Eve I spent puking in the sink in a New Orleans hotel after an oyster po'boy lunch, but I think I just don't like the taste that much.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 25 July 2010 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

Hummus, Pistachios, Chocolate, Cheesecake

chick peas/garbanzos + lentils from the other poll & I could go veg if I had to. I've had some pretty tight foie gras over here (at a West African restaurant in Paris I once had foie gras wrapped in pastry & then served with a honey glaze) but hummus is a staple in our family.

When I was a child I ate like a child & hamburgers were My Thing. When I became a man, I put away childish things & embraced nuts. Or something like that.

never been to Thailand so maybe pad thai is good there but o/w w/e. Chocolate on the other hand is one of the four food groups. I am going to have Nutella on my baguette now in honor of this.

cheesecake b/c it's good though I doubt I'll vote for it again. Oysters are just a bit gross though I had a semi-revelatory experience with them one January in a bistro in Paris. But revelation sadly fades.

Don't want to have to pick between chocolate and pad thai because I love them both (pad thai would be easier to live without though).
Don't want to have to pick between foie gras and hummus because I've been avoiding foie gras out of cruelty concerns but don't really care for hummus.

(Have tried foie gras once and it was too liver-y for me, but I love paté so I'm sure the more mousse/paté-like forms are probably very nice, but, brr.)

Foie Gras, Hamburgers, Chocolate, Oysters

Foie Gras vs. Hummus was tough because I like both, but hummus is a really good utility food, while foie gras is just off-the-chart decadent and delicious.

Hamburgers - I mean, c'mon pistachios? really?

Chocalate vs. Pad Thai was also tough, but I only really want pad thai once in a while, chocolate is always good.

I love oysters too much, I'd vote for them over almost anything. Parkside on 6th Street in Austin has amazing oysters.

no regrets. hummus cuz i grew up in beirut and it's just programmed. pistachios cuz they're the best nut, though hamburgers are a totally underrated (and overconsumed) foodstuff imo. chocolate cuz jesus fuck, it's chocolate. and oysters because they are delicious and yeah, so's cheesecake, but i dunno. cheesecake just seems silly. given the choice i'll always take creme brulee or apple crisp or something. even sorbet.
