I'm torn between choosing one of teh gays and Sutherland. Laurie Metcalf is very good too.

it wouldn't be sutherland for me, think maybe bacon ahead of pesci/TLJ, though i do like candy's turn in this too.

don't think of oldman's as a supporting turn, tbh, so he's out for me

Christ! I never even realized Oldman was in this. Sutherland for me, though.

There is a lot of bad acting in this mediocre film.

it's exactly the right type of bad acting though!

It's not much worse than in a fifties Sirk film though: both directors encourage them to be overwrought. Lemmon is the worst offender, I guess.

gotta be Candy. I'm a sucker for all those Foghorn Leghorn-isms

Shakey, closer to Senator Claghorne (look it up)

Sutherland does a great job delivering some clunky connect-the-dots dialogue, and he isn't helped by Costner's wide-eyed "Are you trying to tell me..." incredulity. I'd go for either Pesci or Candy, who are both spectacularly over the top and around the bend. Pesci's frightwig and Candy saying "Daddy-o" are among the highlights of the film (which I mostly like, but I like Nixon too).

I watched some of JFK on AMC today, including the Sutherland scene. To amend my comment above, Costner doesn't really say much during the scene, he mostly just listens. But he does get saddled with maybe the two worst lines in the film: "I never realized Kennedy was so dangerous to the establishment" and "I can't believe they killed him because he wanted to change things." And Sutherland's dialogue is like a checklist of expository stuff that Stone didn't know where to park otherwise; instead of X, he should have told Costner his name was A Guided Tour Through America's Post-War Covert Interventionism.

I love the lingering look of contempt X gives Garrison after saying the ultra condescending, "The truth is on your SIDE, Bubba."
