excellent point of last nite's gig was during 'losing my edge' - jams murph singing the bit about working on the suicide organ sound, then "and it sounded like this", walks over to an organ and grinds out a bit of 'rocket usa' while the rest of the band keep playing

lcd slammin as ever, they really can't be fucked with as a live unit

hot chip were pretty good but the more synthetic joints sounded flat - more organically 'groovy' stuff was better. joe goddard is on paternity leave apparently - they had a big screen which showed him singing the bits he usually would've!

tea wrecks electric warrior (haitch), Friday, 30 July 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

sounds great! how was your experience of the crowd? several reports indicated it wasn't the most easygoing bunch

we mongrelled it (electricsound), Friday, 30 July 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

p. average "young ppl these days" type crowd really. wouldn't really say it was aggro, more like - ppl want to get to the front, ppl want to jump up and down when there's probably not enuff room, u know.

GANGgajang dance (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2010 01:25 (fifteen years ago)

coburg has chance of getting place you can make noise in, maybe?

I agree w/AA re four-monther and don't unpack, it will give you time to find a new place, and living spartan will be freeing

i'm assuming that it's tity boi, host of the mixtape (sic), Monday, 29 November 2010 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

there is certainly a case to be made for it but the stress i'm going through trying to find place at moment is somewhat immense so slightly reluctant to put myself thru it again in a hurry

GANGgajang dance (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2010 02:20 (fifteen years ago)

on the other hand the offers aren't rolling in

GANGgajang dance (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2010 02:20 (fifteen years ago)

Just treat the place as 4 month storage/CL album making place w/ a bed?

At least you'll have 4 months to find a new joint without an a-hole landlord/agent hassling you everyday.

GANGgajang dance (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2010 02:57 (fifteen years ago)

Don Tojo and Izakaya Chuji both look pretty good. Izakayas are juuuust starting to arrive in Chicago, but they haven't quite taken off yet. (I went to a pretty good one a few months ago, but it closed not long after, presumably due to lack of business.)

I had a momentary panic yesterday when I realized that Australia required a visa (in the form of the ETA) to enter, but this has since been sorted out thanks to an extremely helpful British website I found.

We don't let any old riff raff in!

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Monday, 29 November 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

Pro tip: if you are a dirty illegal, come by plane coz they're not looking there.

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 04:24 (fifteen years ago)

Speaking of agents, I love how they suddenly go 'oh hai we have booked you for an inspection in the middle of the day, we will see you there then hey'. Like neither of us fucking works or anything.

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 05:20 (fifteen years ago)

I ring em when that happens and say "sorry, no can do - I want to be present and this will be happening on a saturday or you're giving me more notice to arrange a couple hours off work". Havent had an issue with that thus far.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Monday, 29 November 2010 05:39 (fifteen years ago)

Bugger, I just said yes. Oh well.

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

They're going to sell the place we just moved into, it seems. We've only been there about 8 months. My wife had only just rescued their garden, which was full of rubbish, weeds and broken glass.

moley, Monday, 29 November 2010 05:53 (fifteen years ago)

So I concur with the bugger remark.

moley, Monday, 29 November 2010 05:53 (fifteen years ago)

Oh god. And here I am whinging about one week's notice of an annual inspection.

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 05:56 (fifteen years ago)

You got a weeks notice!? blimey I'd get 2 days if i was lucky, sometimes.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:02 (fifteen years ago)

I dont wanna have to move again but fuck paying over $2000 a month in rent, this blows.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:02 (fifteen years ago)

!!!!! Where are you living, Grimwade House?

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:05 (fifteen years ago)

heh. Thats all up obv not my half. $480 a week. It is a bit too much for a 2 bedroom house, most other similar round here are $450 tho the price is creeping up slowly.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:11 (fifteen years ago)

Ah house, fair enough I suppose. Our flat is $1500/mth.

Interests: eating my cookie (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:18 (fifteen years ago)

jaymc:
weather is looking like being rainy in Sydney for your first few days, which is a shame, but lighter on Friday and Sunday, if you're making plans for what to do when. If you're a seafood enthusiast, one great thing to do in Sydney would be to catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Doyles at Watson's Bay. You get to be touristy at the Opera House and such, then basically take a cheap outdoor boat cruise round through a rich part of the harbour, then get off and have some fancy fish. Plus climb the hill and look at the city in one direction, and our most popular suicide location in the other.

(If you like adorable animals, catching a ferry to Taronga Zoo is a fine alternative to this - get the cable car to the top, then wind down the hill throughout the day.)

there's a p great izakaya in Newtown, but we couldn't get enough people together to make it rly worthwhile attending w/ you. haitch, edwardo and Queen Girl Pato can attest to it tho!

i'm assuming that it's tity boi, host of the mixtape (sic), Monday, 29 November 2010 06:47 (fifteen years ago)

This Malay place gets bigged up a lot: http://www.mamak.com.au/menu.html

They always have long queues outside, but word is they move quicker than they seem. It's about five minutes from my work, too, so might be able to pop by on Weds eve, on my way into town, if you're v keen.

i'm assuming that it's tity boi, host of the mixtape (sic), Monday, 29 November 2010 07:08 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks, Sic. I think it would be to my benefit to purchase a sim card for my phone when I arrive, so I'll give you a ring on Wednesday.

And yeah, the rain is kind of a bummer. :/

Domingo Halliburton (jaymc), Monday, 29 November 2010 16:52 (fifteen years ago)

Hopefully we'll also have CIO on the rain front by 7/8 Dec, it's been raining a lot in the last week or 2. Kind of annoying.
