I'll be in Austin, TX soon. Where should I eat???

Vacationing in Austin and I am willing to try anything! While I'm here I would like to try some bbq; I just don't know where to go...

If I take a southern route to New Mexico this year, I'll be dropping in on Austin for interesting eats as well.

The two places I miss most: Ruby's BBQ, Curra's.

I'm a big fan of The Salt Lick (in either Driftwood or Round Rock) for BBQ.

I saw this world famous BBQ shack on a television program and I cannot remember what it was called. I remember it being outside of Austin. Does anyone know what place I'm talking about?

lots of lovely places on south congress! i like home slice when in the mood for good pizza :)

salvation pizza and house pizzeria are two other top-tier austin pizza joints. salvation's my favorite, but they're all great. i usually avoid home slice because it's too noisy to have a conversation in there.

Every time I come down, me and BIG HOOS go to Salt Lick. It is maybe the best BBQ you will ever have in your life.

I've read about this place, and it's one of the reasons I want to swing south through Austin on the way to NM.

To me, Salt Lick is pretty untouchable, especially their ribs. But there is much debate around here about what bbq is the greatest - you'll get lots of different opinions.

I really like the name

I'll second Ruby's BBQ and Curra's. Casino el Camino has awesome burgers. Great vegetarian food at Veggie Heaven.

What about breakfast spots? The only one I have heard of was Magnolia Cafe is that any good?

Magnolia is good, as is the similar Kirby Lane. Maria's Taco Express is another good place.

24 is one of the new 24-hour places. My roommate says they have good breakfasts. I love their banana and brown sugar milkshakes and giant plates of french fries.

More to the point... I'm driving out next week. Evenings will be booked up with Psych Fest, but would greatly appreciate any breakfast/lunch-time/potential-hangover suggestions.

what do you like?

I'm full-out omnivore and a tourist, so barbecue is the most important thing but once I'm past that I'm generally iconoclastic. Breakfasty-type alt.diners that make a worthy machaca/huevos rancheros with strong coffee especially recommended.

this place fit the bill on that score, but phaps bcz I was staying at the Austin Motel nearby.

I'm going to be in Austin for a weekend this October. My wife and I have been looking for good tourist options, from bat viewing to taking a shuttle to Salt Lick and a couple of wineries. We've both been here but it's been forever, and the city has only grown. So ... Suggestions, food or otherwise?

I'm not going to San Antonio, I'll be in Austin. And Chicago has tacos (though I am sure they are sometimes different in Austin). Things like Moodles' suggestions looked intriguing, and probably good for a group (which I will be with). My wife and I have a Sunday to kill separate from everyone else, though, which is why we were considering a trip to Lockhart, if we can figure out transportation.
