Cheese vs pizza? Really?

Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:52 (fifteen years ago)

Noooo, you can't have cheese vs pizza. That's terrible. I'm going to have to go for pizza, because at least then I get to have some cheese. Since tomatoes got knocked out I can't cobble together a pizza out of the remaining foodstuffs.

Soup and eggs are easy choices, but I don't really like either tacos or chocolate. Might just have to flip a coin.

berries v. soup - you are CRUEL

Pizza, Berries, Ice Cream, Tacos. My non-voting GF went Pizza, Soup, Eggs, Chocolate--different in three of four categories.

Really wish I'd been in on this one earlier, but I love it. DYING to see the beverages fites.

not convinced of this, and this whole bracketology business has demonstrated to me at least that the voyage is more interesting than the destination

A beer bracket would be interesting for sure, though I'm not a beer drinker myself. That's actually true of a lot of the candidates for this one (ice cream, obv.).

I've tried to make these rounds straddle weekdays and weekends so it reaches the most voters in every round. Continuing in that vein --

Quarterfinals - closing Saturday evening.
Semifinals - will close Wednesday evening, one week from today.
Finals - will close Sunday the 15th.

Monday the 16th -- we will finally all know what we're supposed to be having for dinner.

velvet underground = ice cream
stevie wonder = chocolate
prince = berries
brian eno = eggs

iatee, Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:27 (fifteen years ago)

which would suggest a Pizza, Berries, Ice Cream, Tacos final

I have voted against eggs in every round. They do not taste good, they smell awful, and they have the worst texture of any food ever, no matter how they're prepared.

naus, Thursday, 5 August 2010 07:13 (fifteen years ago)

Pizza, Berries, Ice Cream, Chocolate

A good pizza with lots of fresh rocket on it, some gently heated raspberries with a blob of ice cream, a cup of coffee and a few squares of dark chocolate... Gotta say I would be very happy with that.

Chaim Poutine (NickB), Thursday, 5 August 2010 07:17 (fifteen years ago)

Beer World Cup wd be interesting, to find out which country makes the best beer!

Pizza bc it's my fave application of hard cheese and it's hard to vote for the ingredient over the delicious end product.
Berries vs. Soup is insane and I can't decide.
Eggs vs. Ice Cream is lame bc I think both are kinda w/e and have beaten WAY too many great competitors.
Tacos I guess because chocolate who cares. be different if it were cocoa maybe but w/e

yeah but it was not knockout style

Which Country Produces the Best Beer?

ledge, Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:19 (fifteen years ago)

Cheese, berries, ice cream, chocolate.

Pizza is great, but cheese is awesome in so many other forms than just as pizza topping that it'd feel criminal not to vote for it. Neither soups nor berries are among my favourites, but I gotta go for berries here, as soups usually tend to leave me feeling like something is lacking. They're okay as appetizers, but no so special as such, unlike berries. Not the biggest fan of ice cream either, but eggs are so vile I'll always vote against them. Since living in Finland apparently means I've never eaten Real Tacos, it's pretty easy to vote for chocolate, which I at least know is good.

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:30 (fifteen years ago)

Gotta say, the results here look more vegetarian-friendly than what I thought. I was kinda expecting the semifinals to be meat vs. meat vs. meat vs. pizza...

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

unnecessary 'apparently'

iatee, Thursday, 5 August 2010 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

Hard Cheeses, Berries, Ice Cream, Chocolate

I love pizza, but I decided last round that I'm gonna vote for hard cheeses as long they're still around

a good pizza where everything's just right is, like, everything the most insane pizza enthusiast says it is & more. and it's communal. there's a place in St Petersburg FL that's run by a bunch of transplanted NJ guys and I was hanging out with friends & like we order out & when the pizzas arrive everybody starts eating and suddenly there's a profound near-silence and everybody realizes at once "holy shit this is a world-class pie" and there are three diff. kinds of pies all goin at once & everybody's all "make sure you try the margherita before you get full" & so forth & knockin back wine with the pizza and it's a beautiful evening at work & I just don't have any hard cheese experiences that can really compare

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:22 (fifteen years ago)

u got heart guy, so imma let you away with warning this time

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

I think these kind of polls are unfair to stuff that's just part of a dish, as compared to stuff that's a dish in its own right. Of course a great pizza is better than any hard cheese per se, but I'd still rather give up pizza altogether than give up hard cheeses as part of any food.

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

You run the next one then.

soup is such a maddening entry in this already maddening championship because it's basically just liquid flavor. that is what soup is, various flavors in liquid form. there is no such food that regarded as "solid flavor" in the most variable sense that would be allowed to go up against all real and actual foods.

del griffith, Sunday, 8 August 2010 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

whatever, fried eggs are my favorite food and i will vote for them til tha end

del griffith, Sunday, 8 August 2010 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

a. americans really like it
b. british people really like it
c. meat eaters really like it
d. vegetarians really like it

iatee, Sunday, 8 August 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

i'm assuming that the pizza the americans are voting for isn;t available this side of the pond tbh.

"It's far from 'loi' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Sunday, 8 August 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)

i think part of the problem is that deep dish pizza is almost always made from inferior ingredients -- cheap cheese, shitty flavorless dough, etc. ime fancy pizza places that care about ingredients don't do the casserole so it's just the gross ones that do (ie giordanos, etc) hence, deep dish pizza is gross. (to me)

ghee hee hee (La Lechera), Sunday, 8 August 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

but when deep dish pizza is made from good ingredients - like Zachary's in Berkeley, and I hear great things about Little Star in SF - it is amazing and wonderful.
