Everyone should follow Irving BTW because he is a grade A whiner.
director was dude from last american virginalso, according to imdb "Boyfriend of media mogul David Geffen during the mid-to-late 1980s"

Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer named Gerogia (Julianne Hough)
Please, PLEASE don't let that be a typo. Please let her name be "Gerogia."

― Not the real Village People, Saturday, 30 October 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)
Too many cast members took their chill pills in this one. Or the screenwriter did. Diva antics kept to a sad minimum. Do they not know their target audience?!
― Miss Garrote (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
As a die-hard Cher fan, I was eagerly anticipating this :(
― Megatherium americanum (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
Cher gets a nice 11th hour ballad. So there's that.
― Miss Garrote (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
so this isn't even enjoyably camp in the "so bad it's good" senese? smh @ christina aguilera and her questionable career decisions.
― no hipster hats (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 18:30 (fifteen years ago)
It's like they deliberately avoided the "so bad it's good" route. Instead, it's just so so-so it's bad.
― Miss Garrote (Eric H.), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 18:44 (fifteen years ago)
Well, the first half is sort of enjoyably tacky. Then the drama kicks in (and not the good kind of drama, either).

this movie was made by the studio head's boyfriend whose only directing credit was a straight to video movie staring angie harmon. its impossible that this is not shit.
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)
I am amused by the fact that burlesque has been dead for about 60 years, 25 if you spell it burlesk.
― kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
Antin was born in Portland, Oregon. He is remembered as Troy, the bad-guy preppie jock in Steven Spielberg's The Goonies and as a co-lead in the film The Last American Virgin. He also had a memorable performance as one of the rapists in the Academy Award-winning film The Accused. He can also be remembered as Jessie in Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" video.

was it the one where she's spied on by her neighbor through a camera in her shower? if so, it was on lifetime, i saw it, and it was hilarious
― The Great Jumanji, (La Lechera), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 21:24 (fifteen years ago)
Steve Antin also appeared in Sandra Bernhard's quite good film of her brilliant late '80s stage show Without You I'm Nothing
― kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 21:28 (fifteen years ago)
I keep wanting to see this movie, but I know it would be a bad idea. It's the cinematic equivalent to a twinkie.

More on that boyfriend, the studio boss boyfriend and his ways:
This week's issue of The Hollywood Reporter explores how the high drama around the movie, due out November 24, centered around Culpepper and the first-time director Antin rather than the movie's famous divas, Cher and Christina Aguilera.A source on the project says that the close relationship between the two led to some "jaw-dropping" clashes on the highly-charged set.* In the midst of one argument, Culpepper poured an iced tea over Antin's head, forcing the director to recoil backwards into a rack of clothes.* The exchanges were often so intense that a source tells THR that Cher told Culpepper at one point, "Clint, I would like a calmer set."* At one point a distraught Aguilera turned to her manager Irving Azoff who called Culpepper. "Dude," Azoff said. "She came from an abused childhood, you cannot yell like this."
Rex Reed has some words. They're bitchy. WHO KNEW?

+ "Pretend you're an artist, except instead of painting a canvas, you're painting your face" </brendadickson>+ Cher casually and halfheartedly throwing out a [hilariously boring] musical number as she's on her way out the door, she sits in a chair and sings half of a song and then stands up and sings the rest.+ Stanley Tucci lying in bed without a shirt
- That really awkward Cher-Tucci dance that happened so they could let everyone know that ***HE'S GAY***- The rest of the film
― CCH Peniston (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)
i find it really surprising that this movie is not good (i have not seen it yet). i don't really believe in the "so bad it's good" thing. if something's good, it's good - no need to quantify it with the guilt-precaution. this seriously seems like it could be fantastic. if this were done by the right person, in the right generation, it would be a classic.
from what eric says, it sounds like it's more "coyote ugly" than that, which would indeed be disappointing. but i'll have to see for myself.
― valerie (surm), Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)
tbh surm I thought of you once while I was watching it and thinking that you would really enjoy it.
― CCH Peniston (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 4 December 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)
The movie is good, surm. Like, surprisingly good. It is actually so competent that it is almost boring; it saves itself by centering on the musical numbers, which are cheesy in exactly the right way. Cher and Xtina sing their faces off.
