It Keeps You Running -- A Thread to Keep It (and You) Together

A sort of catch-all thread of how you (ok, how I) have been coping with tough times lately. Without clogging up the more depressing threads here and making friends freak out. I hope to remain positive because, well, it's about what's keeping me together these days.

I'm all out of ideas lately.

But I'm still looking for suggestions.

Great books - reading about all the catty bohemian bullshit in Picasso's circle in the third volume of John Richardson's biography puts things into perspective and offers many lols

Sauna - something I've gotten addicted to as I cut down on smoking

Martin Freeman's constant wincing and general affable patheticness on Sherlock

The fact that Fredy Montero can be relied on to provide one goal a game, every game

Sonny Sharrock's 'Ask the Ages'

Being reminded that your experiences are not necessarily unique and that your friends have struggled through similar doubts/obstacles/worries

"A History of the World in a Hundred Objects" podcasts - though I have just run out of these >.<
Jam doughnuts
Breath control

...what I need now is some actual running, to counteract the widening effect of the doughnuts. I think my reconstructed foot is nearly ready for it. That thought goes on the list, too. \o/

Lately, throwing myself into weight training as a positive outlet for self-loathing. These "endorphins" I've heard so much about have yet to put in an appearance; I'm not convinced they're not creatures of folk legend like the noble Sasquatch (or forest ape).

Decided to start checking out museums, starting with the Mütter and/or CHF this weekend.

Trying to find something to work toward intellectually but my educational options are pretty limited right now, and nothing I'm interested in is practical or in any way employable during the best of times, let alone the worst US economy in decades.

Exercise, reading, music, cheap lunches in quiet places, a little ILX (but probably not too much), sunshine, silence.

Oh yeah - podcasts and the radio. All talk

Weight - training should bring you those endorphins once you get past the initial muscle pain. I love that feeling
